💡Tip for our students working on their writing ✍
When talking about statistics we say that figures reach a peak of or peak at: The number of viewers reached a peak of 3.8 million / peaked at 3.8 million in May. The opposite of a peak is a low. The word trough also has this meaning, but is usually used together with the word peak: The number of viewers fell to a low of only 1.1 million in August. The figure has its peaks and troughs.

🗣Speaking Tip💡
extend your answers
In Part 1 of the speaking test, do not give one word answers! Extend your answer. So if the examiner asks you: "are you studying at university at the moment?" do not answer "yes." Answer: "yes I am. I'm actually studying linguistics at Bukhara State University. I've been there for almost 3 years."

🗣Speaking💡
Let's talk about some vocabulary on the topic Friends.

🎧listening 💡
The podcast discusses the tips given by IELTS candidates. Have a listen and learn something new.
@languagehotline
💡Active & Passive vocabulary 📋
☑️ Active vocabulary
- the words you are able to produce when you're speaking and writing.
☑️ Passive vocabulary
- the words which help you understand reading and listening texts, are much larger than your active vocabulary.
💡 It's the same with native speakers, they do not actively use all of the words in the English language.
🤚🏻So, here is a problem; some IELTS candidates try to use vocabulary that a native speaker would rarely use. Most candidates apply those words without any awareness of style.
