Ramadan 1447 has arrived.
Following confirmed positive moonsighting reports from Saudi Arabia, Wednesday 18 February marks the first day of Ramadan. Accordingly, Tarāwīḥ prayers will begin tonight, as we welcome the blessed month.
This noble guest comes with special and unique blessings. Honour it with sincere repentance, increased worship, and hearts turned fully to Allah.
May we be granted the ability to witness its virtues, benefit from its fruits, and emerge forgiven and transformed.

As Bangladesh heads to the polls, we remember journalist Dilly Hussain’s reminder just after the student-led uprising that ousted the ruling dynasty.

As Bangladesh approaches a pivotal national moment, it is also a time to reflect on the influential figures who shaped the country’s Islamic discourse. Writing on the passing of Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi رحمه الله Imam Khidr Hussain described him as “a man who served Islam, defended Islam, spoke for Islam…with his pen and with his mouth,” noting his steadfastness through trials and the thirteen years he ultimately spent in prison. Imam Khidr recalled being a student in the early 1990s and hearing the Shaykh address the ideological challenges of socialism and communism at a time when many debates revolved around far narrower issues. “He was thinking fifty years ahead of everybody else,” - a vision that demonstrated how an ālim should remain deeply connected to the concerns of society rather than removed from them. The crowds at his janaza and the widespread expressions of grief, were for many a testament to the enduring impact left on those who were influenced by his work.
As Bangladesh votes this week, times like these remind us that courage, conviction, and playing our part are crucial in shaping the future discourse of our Ummah.
Her school GROOMED her to become a boy
A lack of openness when it comes to parent-teacher discussions is a serious issue, particularly when teachers feel they can force their personal views upon pupils.
Such examples need to be challenged as soon as we become aware; ask the school why they are behaving in this manner, and what they have done after the Supreme Court judgment on biological sex.

Syria announces ceasefire with Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces
The Syrian government has declared an immediate ceasefire with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, granting Damascus control over border crossings, oil fields, and three eastern provinces.
Under the deal, the SDF will be integrated into Syria’s defence and interior ministries, as the government pledges to reunify the country and recognise Kurdish cultural and linguistic rights.
US announces Phase Two of Gaza plan with technocratic government
US envoy Steve Witkoff has announced the launch of Phase Two of President Donald Trump’s plan to end the genocide in Gaza, involving the creation of a technocratic Palestinian government in the territory.
Egypt, Qatar and Turkey welcomed the new Palestinian Technocratic Committee, saying it could help stabilise Gaza and improve the humanitarian situation.
UN warns children in Darfur could die of hunger within days
The UN has warned that children in Darfur are at risk of dying from hunger “within days” as famine conditions persist more than 1,000 days into Sudan’s war.
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces has killed thousands, displaced nearly 13 million people, and driven over 40 per cent of the population into acute food insecurity, creating the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
A necessary read for our time.
Social media has reshaped how Muslims learn, argue, market Islam, and even understand “community”. This essay asks hard but sincere questions about Muslim influencers, attention economies, and what we’ve quietly lost along the way.
It isn’t written to attack individuals, but to invite a more honest reckoning with modernity, platforms, and our responsibilities to Allah and one another.

They want women to be workers
Why did they stop teaching subjects you need to be an effective parent? Because the state doesn't want you to lead a household—they want you to be fungible commodity - an easily replaceable worker. Imam Tom Facchine explains.

Parents (unknowingly) shape their children
We often do things to deliberately expose our children to positive habits, but this extends to all of our time spent with them, not just the times we actively plan for. They are learning from us, every second spent with them.

What are my kids being taught at school?
This might seem obvious, but asking your school what is being taught opens the door to constructive discussions that may get them to also question their positions on various contentious topics.

Last week, Leicester Crown Court quashed Majid Freeman’s conviction for a public order offence arising from the 2022 Leicester unrest.
Far from being a provocateur, the court found him to be a measured mediator and “bridge-builder” who sought to calm tensions and protect his community.
The ruling not only clears Freeman’s name, it raises serious questions about how he was treated in the first place — and offers important lessons for British Muslims about standing firm with dignity, building bridges across faiths, and trusting that justice, even when delayed, ultimately prevails.
