EFCC Arraigns 11 Chinese, One Filipino for Alleged Internet Fra¥d in Lagos.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned 11 Chinese nationals, one Filipino, and a company, Genting International Co. Ltd, before Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The defendants—Wang Zheng Ming, Li Yin Hui, Xian Hong Will, Zhang Xiao Lei, Long Zhao Ming, Guo Xiao Fei, Yang Sheng, Wang Zheng Feng, Chen Wenyuan, Liu San Hua, Luo Jia You, and Rheign Dela Vega—were part of a syndicate of 792 suspects arrested on December 19, 2024, during the EFCC’s “Eagle Flush Operation” targeting cryptocurrency investment and romance fra¥d schemes.
They face multiple charges, including cybercrimes, cyber-t+rrorism, identity theft, and possession of fra¥dulent documents. One charge states that Li Yin Hui and Genting International Co. Ltd unlawfully accessed computer systems to recruit Nigerian youths for identity theft, violating the Cybercrimes Act.

A woman and her two children are currently in police custody after she allegedly att+cked her landlord with a pestle, inflicting a serious head inj¥ry in Umugbabe Ovoko community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to Enugu media personality Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who shared the incident on Facebook on Friday, January 31, 2025, the a§§ault occurred after the landlord, a young orphan, asked the woman to vacate his house.
Ugwuanyi revealed that the tenant had been living with the young man because he was alone in his large house. However, when he requested that she leave, she allegedly reacted v+olently, str#king him with a pestle.
Following the att+ck, the woman and her two children were arrested and are currently being held at Ibagwa Aka Police Station as authorities investigate the incident.

The Kano State government has allocated N2.5 billion for quarterly mass weddings across the state’s 44 local government areas in 2025.
The Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, disclosed this while presenting the breakdown of the N719.7 billion state budget, which was recently passed into law by the State House of Assembly.
He stated that the mass wedding initiative falls under the N91.32 billion set aside for governance and service delivery programmes. Shanono explained that the initiative aims to promote social responsibility, transparency, and human rights while fostering a fair and sustainable society.
He also highlighted other key expenditures within the budget, including N1 billion for Ramadan feeding, N955 million for manpower and household surveys—including statistics on out-of-school children—and N1.05 billion for the purchase of printing machines, rehabilitation of water systems, and library equipment at the Government Printing Press.

Another charge alleges that Luo Jia You gave false information to EFCC officers to mislead investigators about his involvement in romance sc+ms and cryptocurrency fra¥d.
Additionally, Long Shao Ming is accused of impersonating a U.S. citizen, “Linda Maureen,” to defra¥d victims.
All defendants pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors requested trial dates and their remand in custody. Justice Dipeolu adjourned the trial to February 7, 14, and 21, 2025, and ordered their detention at Ikoyi and Kirikiri Correctional Centres.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that corps members will begin receiving an increased monthly allowance of ₦77,000 starting February 2025.
Speaking to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State on Thursday, Ahmed confirmed that the Federal Government has approved the increment, which has been included in the 2025 budget.
“The Federal Government has already approved the increment of your allowance. It is no longer news; we have the approval in our hands. What we are waiting for is just the passage of the budget. This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving ₦77,000 instead of the usual ₦33,000,” he stated.
The NYSC DG urged corps members to uphold discipline, honesty, and perseverance while avoiding any form of misconduct that could hinder their future ambitions.
