Some people believe that violent media directly results in violent behavior. Do you agree or disagree?

Violent content in movies, TV shows and video games has become common in recent years, and some people claim that being exposed to such media directly influences viewers to commit violent acts. I disagree with this notion because several other factors such as people’s background and external influences are more important.

What shapes people’s character and interests is usually their background. Relationships with parents and friends, as well as ideas people follow and the setting they live in can normally determine if this individual is likely to be violent or not. For instance, people growing up in abusive households located in poor neighborhoods typically grow up to be more susceptible to violence. This, perhaps, explains why poorer countries often have higher crime rates, both among adults and juveniles. Thus, it is rational to view poverty and the household environment to be more influential in making people more violent.

Occasionally, people feel obligated to commit violence, whether it is in their plan or not. In some cases, certain people can even use violence to protect themselves or others. Self-defense, for example, is often used in dangerous situations where people see violence as the only way to survive, and interestingly, more countries are adopting laws that justify killing that is done solely for the purpose of survival. In this context, it would be illogical to consider that a person’s violent act is influenced by his or her obsession with movies or shows.

In summary, I firmly believe that there is no direct link between violent media and actual violence in real-life events. Other factors, such as people’s background and the situation they are in, can both be significantly more responsible.

A few years ago when I was not doing well financially, several people told me to take the mainstream road and teach IELTS in the Uzbek language.

I could do that, but it didn't feel right, and my Uzbek is not the best anyway. Instead, I continued to use English in my classes and managed to find a very interesting cohort of learners outside of Uzbekistan. Anna is one of many students we were blessed to work with, especially in the last two years. I am incredibly happy for each result we achieved with our students from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

Many of them are in the UK and the US now, exploring the world and studying in great universities. I hope they are doing well and I thank them again for diversifying our portfolio.

By the way, in this report, all versions of the word "average" were used.

The average (as a noun)
Average (as an adjective)
To average (as a verb)
On average (adverb)

This approach helps the grammatical range score and is a sign of advanced understanding of the language. So, when you see "average" mentioned in the report, you can try doing the same.

Due to a large number of inquiries, I believe I will have to open a new full online IELTS course.

Many students who cannot go to offline courses seem to need support in all four sections, which is what I will try to provide in a new offer.

It is always challenging to organize an effective full course, so I've been thinking a lot about a nice format for this 30-40 day intensive course.

A full announcement to be made very soon.

Some experts believe that when a country is already rich, any additional increase in economic wealth does not make its citizens any more satisfied. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is an expert view that countries with advanced economies cannot make their citizens any happier by focusing on the increase in wealth. I fully agree with this statement as the examples of developed countries show that social welfare programs can be far more important than simply increasing the per capita income within the country.

The US is widely considered to be one of the most developed and powerful countries in the world with a per capita income of over $70,000. However, the same country is also known for its controversial healthcare policies and social issues related to crime. In a sense, those living in the United States of America can earn an impressive income but it does not mean there is a continuous fulfilment in their lives. This may be the reason why the US does not rank among the 10 happiest nations in the world.

Finland, on the other hand, does rank among the happiest countries, often taking the top spot, according to multiple sources. GDP per capita income in this country is under 70,000 dollars as of 2023, but its people are much happier thanks for the emphasis on social welfare programs. Taxpayers in Finland get numerous benefits such as free education from elementary to university level, while also enjoying affordable and universal healthcare available to citizens at all times. This contrast with the US explains that it is not just the increase in income but the effective economic distribution that contributes more positively to the well being of people.

In conclusion, there is no direct benefit of focusing on the increase in income levels, as the quality of life is better ensured thanks to effective welfare programs and an appropriate distribution of money as a whole.

So.

Advantages and disadvantages usually means you should present a neutral/balanced essay, preferably with 2 or 4 main bodies, keeping everything equal. I usually don’t include too much of my own opinion if I get this type.

Positive or negative type gives you more freedom and is more of an opinion essay because you can choose whether the given trend is good or bad. However, you can still present arguments explaining both positives and negatives, but your position should be clear. You can use words such as “mostly” positive to explain which side you think is more influential.

Outweigh essay is like comparing advantages and disadvantages. You have to present both, but choose which set is more important. I usually go for three or four main bodies in such essays and it is totally fine to include personal opinion in it.

Some people believe that longer prison sentences are the best way to reduce crime, while others believe that there are more effective alternatives. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Crime has become a pervasive issue in numerous countries worldwide. Some people contend that reducing instances of crime is possible through longer incarceration, while others claim that more compelling solutions exist. While extended prison sentences are indispensable in severe cases, community service and rehabilitation can both be effective measures.

Crime is now a ubiquitous issue and can take place in different forms. Murder is different from car theft and cannot be treated the same way, meaning crime is a complex issue that requires various solutions. In the case of a violent murder, lifelong sentence in prison is a rational choice since this criminal is a threat to society. Similarly, any proven acts of terrorism should be taken seriously, with longer prison sentences being a rational punishment. If heinous acts of crime are not met with severe punishments, there may be ramifications in form of increased informality within a country.

However, not every crime is heinous. In the case of a car theft, there are usually no casualties, meaning it is not as detrimental as murder. A person who commits a car theft is therefore an individual that should be treated slightly differently. For instance, instead of a long prison sentence, this offender can be a subject to community service, cleaning the streets or doing difficult work in remote areas. Similarly, a teenager who commits shoplifting cannot be sent to prison for years. Instead, they should be either encouraged to do community service or have access to rehabilitation facilities.

In my view, rehabilitation is the most pivotal solution in our pursuit of decreasing crime rates. Educating prisoners and providing them with necessary facilities for reintegration should be the main solution, especially when dealing with people who committed a misdemeanor—a minor case of crime. Educating criminals can be a profound solution in terms of reducing the percentage of reoffending, which is the case in countries like Sweden, Norway and Finland. These Scandinavian countries have advocated for rehabilitation, often creating desirable conditions for prisoners to effectively change their mindset so that it is easier for them to become a law-abiding citizen.

In conclusion, crime is a prevalent issue and must be tackled with a number of solutions. Simply going for a longer incarceration may not help decrease recidivism. Other alternatives, such as community service and rehabilitation may suffice.

The charts provide information on the weather patterns in Glasgow—a Scottish city. Generally, the summer season, especially a period from July to August, is the warmest part of the year, and the span with the most sunshine hours. In terms of rainfall, December emerges as the month with the highest precipitation, whereas May is the driest.

As for the average temperatures, January appears to represent the lowest figure of around 1 degree Celsius—which is the minimum average for this month. During the day, however, temperatures can average around 5 degrees Celsius. A somewhat similar pattern can be observed in February, but the spring season appears to have contrasting averages. In May, for example, temperatures can reach 14 degrees Celsius during the daytime and drop to approximately 5 at night, meaning the lowest minimum average in May is the warmest temperature in January. The warmest months, however, are July and August. This is when the temperatures rise to nearly 19 degrees, with the nighttime temperature dropping to lows of about 11 degrees. The remainder of the year experiences lower averages, with the temperatures decreasing consistently until the end of the year. Yet, in comparison to January, December appears to be slightly warmer on average.

As mentioned above, May is the driest month, receiving only 6 cm of rainfall. This makes May drier than July and August, despite lower average temperatures. June is the month with the most sunshine, averaging 6 hours per day, while May and July both average 5.5. The average rainfall in the autumn season ranges from 10 to 12 cm, whereas December is the wettest month with 12.5 cm. Along with January, December is also the month with the lowest amount of sunshine, averaging only an hour per day.

Some parents give their children everything that their children ask for or allow them to do whatever they want to do. Is this good for children? What could be the consequences for these children when they grow up?

There are different ways to nurture a child, with some parents going for a more relaxed style. This often means they allow their children anything they desire or provide them with whatever they ask for. In my view, this is an ineffective method of parenting that sets a dangerous precedent, which later translates into difficulties in teenage and adult years.

Informality in parenting sounds attractive in principle but does not work in practice. Parents may believe they are giving their children the best life by allowing them total freedom, but in reality, this teaches values that do not positively contribute to the child’s mental growth. For instance, a child who constantly gets new toys without a reason may believe there is no need to show effort to deserve these toys. In terms of behavior, when these children are given free will, they may experiment too much, culminating in unethical behavior or total absence of limits in what is right and wrong.

In terms of other significant consequences, one can have difficulties in communication. Children that are raised in a family with total freedom can often appear too confident or even arrogant. In fact, it is more likely that these children grow up to become narcissistic. In a sense, the level of attention and limitless care that was given to a child becomes a root cause of an inflated ego, often making such a child rude, unapproachable, and isolated. A sense of reality can also be distorted in these children’s minds since they often do not know what a “no” is.

The other far-reaching consequences can be a vicious cycle in parenting or even engaging in illegal activity. Regarding parents, people normally create the environment they are familiar with. Thus, a child that knows no limits may become a parent that uses the same style for their own children, making no adjustments and simply using what they remember. In the worst-case scenario, some of these children may grow up to become criminals. This can happen because of an extremely informal approach where boundaries are not set rationally. Such is the risk of allowing children total freedom.

In lights of the arguments above, I firmly believe that a preference for unrestricted freedom in parenting is undesirable. More often than not, children growing up in such environments are likely to suffer from certain repercussions.

The maps compare the changes that had taken place in the village of Stokeford between 1930 and 2010. Generally, what used to be a village with large areas for farming had become a residential region with substantial accommodation and a more advanced infrastructure.

In 1930, certain parts of Stokeford’s northeastern and southwestern areas had been used for farming. Locals used to live in ten houses mainly located close to the centre or the bridge in the north. These houses were all placed along the main road. In the central region, a few more facilities, such as shops, post offices, primary schools and gardens, were situated, too. One more important detail is that there was a large fenced housing estate located in the same area with gardens.

In 2010, there was no farmland anymore, making way for new residential developments. As a result, nearly 50 houses can be seen on the map of Stokeford this year, distributed in northern, central and southern parts. The post office and primary school remained in their original locations, although the building of the school increased in size. Shops were demolished, while the building of a large house was converted into a retirement home.
