WHY is walking in a coniferous forest healthy?

Scientists have proven that the air in a coniferous forest is practically sterile (no more than 200-300 harmful bacteria per cubic meter). A walk in the coniferous forest relieves stress and nervous tension, tones the body by activating gas exchange in the lungs and, consequently, improves breathing.

Such walks are vital for heavy smokers and office workers.

What is Motion Sickness?

Motion sickness, also known as travel sickness or kinetosis, is a condition characterized by a combination of symptoms that occur when there is a discrepancy between the motion sensed by the inner ear and the visual perception of motion. It typically occurs during travel or when exposed to certain types of motion, such as in a moving vehicle, boat, airplane, or amusement park ride.
When we are in motion, our body receives sensory input from various sources, including the inner ear (vestibular system), eyes, and muscles. These sensory inputs are normally synchronized, providing a consistent perception of movement. However, in certain situations, such as when reading in a moving vehicle or looking at a stationary object while on a boat, there can be conflicting sensory information, leading to motion sickness.

The exact mechanisms behind motion sickness are not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a complex interplay between the vestibular system, the visual system, and the central nervous system. The inner ear's vestibular system plays a crucial role in detecting motion and maintaining balance. When there is a mismatch between the information received from the inner ear and the visual system, the brain interprets it as a potential poisoning or intoxication, triggering a range of symptoms.

Symptoms of motion sickness can vary in intensity and may include:
Nausea and vomiting
Sweating
Dizziness and vertigo
Fatigue and drowsiness
Headache etc

What is Cancer?

Cancer is a complex and broad term that refers to a group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body. These abnormal cells, known as cancer cells, have the ability to invade and destroy healthy tissues and organs.

In a healthy body, cells grow, divide, and die in a controlled manner to maintain normal tissue function and repair damaged cells. However, in cancer, this normal process is disrupted. The exact causes of cancer are often multifactorial and can include genetic mutations, exposure to carcinogens (such as tobacco smoke or certain chemicals), underlying chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and various other factors.

The development of cancer typically involves several stages. It usually begins with a genetic mutation or a series of mutations that affect the normal functioning of a cell's DNA. These mutations can occur randomly or be inherited from parents. Certain risk factors, such as tobacco use, exposure to radiation, or viral infections, can increase the likelihood of these mutations.

Once a cell's DNA has been altered, it can start to divide and multiply rapidly, forming a mass of cells called a tumor. Tumors can be benign or malignant. Benign tumors are non-cancerous and do not invade nearby tissues or spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumors, on the other hand, are cancerous and have the ability to invade surrounding tissues and metastasize, which means they can spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.

As cancer progresses, it can interfere with the normal functioning of organs and tissues. Cancer cells can deprive healthy cells of oxygen and nutrients, produce toxic substances, and disrupt the body's normal physiological processes. The symptoms and effects of cancer depend on the type and stage of the disease, as well as the organs or tissues involved.

Cancer can be a serious and life-threatening condition, but advances in medical research and treatment have improved outcomes for many cancer patients. Treatments for cancer can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, among others. The choice of treatment depends on various factors, including the type and stage of cancer, the patient's overall health, and individual preferences.

WHY might cold food or drinks cause a headache?

The reason is that cold irritates the upper palate, responsible for the nerve nodes transmitting sensations to the brain.

The blood vessels respond to cold by constricting or expanding, resulting in pain. When you feel cold, your body sends warm blood to the cold spot, which causes pain.

🔍Here are 10 surprising facts about the spinal cord:

1. It’s the nervous system’s HQ :-
Think of your spinal cord as the headquarters of your body’s nerves. It holds the peripheral nervous system and 43 nerve pairs, both sensory and motor. Thanks to this system, your brain, and spinal cord are connected to all other parts of your body.

2. It controls voluntary and involuntary movements :-
The spinal cord is the reason you can lift your hand and make a fist and it’s also responsible for involuntary moving, such as breathing.

3. It’s a conductor :-
The reason you can get up and walk right now is that the spinal cord carries signals to the legs to extend, stand, and start the walking movements.

4. An injury can disrupt these signals :-
A spinal cord injury can affect the transmission of signals between the nerve cells and different parts of the body.

5. It can’t repair itself :-
While other parts of the body can regenerate and heal, the spinal cord cannot.

6. It ends in a Horse’s Tail :-
The end of the spinal cord is also called cauda equina due to its similarity to a horse’s tail. It’s located in the upper portion of the lumbar region and the nerve cells here send signals to your lower limbs and pelvic region.

7. It’s highly protected :-
You’ll be happy to know there is a vertebral column that covers and protects your spinal cord daily. Inside the column lies the spinal canal, which is the cavity that holds the spinal cord.

8. It’s divided into 31 segments
The spinal cord is quite a complex system with many types of nerve cells: cervical, lumbar, thoracic, sacral, etc.

9. It grows until you’re five years old :-
The spinal cord usually develops along with you until the age of 5. After that, your body will continue to grow around it.

10. It can function independently from the brain :-
The spinal cord doesn’t take all its signals from your brain. In some cases, it can send signals to muscles on its own.

First aid for an asthma attack

Let's play with the situation. You find yourself near such a person. What should you do?

Patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma have medication with them to stop an attack. But it may happen that the medication was not there. In this case, you should not hesitate to call an ambulance.

- Ensure free access of air to the patient: take off his clothing, if possible open a window.
- Sit the sick person so he can put his hands on the edge of a chair. If the person is lying, do not lie on his side, not on his back. It is good to tilt the head.
- The person must breathe out correctly: Make long, deep breaths as if he is breathing through a straw.
- Try to calm the patient, so that he does not feel frightened or panicked.

Why do some people opt to get Botox Injection?

Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment that involves injecting a small amount of a toxin called botulinum into the skin. The toxin works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles in the area, which can smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.
People opt to get Botox for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on their face, particularly on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.

These are often referred to as "expression lines" because they are caused by repeated facial expressions over time, such as smiling, frowning, and squinting.
Botox can also be used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms. In these cases, the toxin is injected into specific muscles to block the nerve signals that cause the condition.
Overall, the decision to get Botox is a personal one and can depend on a variety of factors such as personal preference, lifestyle, and budget. It's important to work with a qualified and experienced provider to ensure the safest and most effective treatment possible.

What is the Gel that is applied before an Ultrasound Scan?

Ultrasound is a special form of technology that sends pulsing sound waves at a high frequency deep into the tissue of a patient using a probe or a transducer. The gel is rubbed onto the skin to help the transducer easily glide along the surface. The device can receive and also send sound waves, which then appear as images that are seen on a computer screen. A sonographer looks at the images to make sure that everything appears normal. This is done in real time and the person operating the ultrasound technology can move the transducer or the probe as required to get a fully defined picture of what’s happening beneath skin level. Screenshot images can also be taken and printed out if required.

Ultrasound gel is composed of a mix of propylene glycol and water. Propylene glycol is a synthetic product that is commonly found in hygiene, cosmetic and food products. It is quite sticky and thick. It’s important for it to have a sticky texture so that it stays on your skin and doesn’t drip off when the ultrasound is being performed.
The gel has a shelf life of approximately 5 years if the bottle remains unopened. Once opened, however, it’s recommended that it be used up within 28 days for the purpose of infection control.

Another thing that can get in the way of reducing clear images is static electricity. Ultrasound gel eliminates the static so that the procedure can be done effectively without any risk of static getting in the way.

WHY are bacteria and microbes afraid of UV light?

Ultraviolet radiation
is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength between 10 and 400 nm. In fact, it is radiation which spectrum lies between the light visible to the human eye and X-rays.

Ultraviolet is capable of penetrating the DNA and RNA of microorganisms and destroying them, at least damaging them, significantly slowing down or preventing the reproduction of cells altogether.

For humans, exposure to high doses of ultraviolet light can cause dangerous damage to the eyes and skin.

WHY don't mosquitoes carry HIV?

When a mosquito bites, it injects saliva containing special substances, not blood from a previous bite. HIV cannot develop in a mosquito or any other blood-sucking insect.

In many cases, however, an insect attack can result in more than just allergies. Mosquitoes carry such unpleasant diseases as Rift Valley fever, yellow fever, Lyme disease, Dengue fever, Zika virus, leishmaniasis and, obviously, the well-known malaria.

WHY do people snore in their sleep?

All muscles relax during sleep. If the lumen of the pharynx was originally narrowed, then the relaxed walls of the upper airways, sagging, touch each other.

When breathing in and out, air passes forcefully through the narrowed and partially blocked soft tissues of the pharyngeal canal. The walls of the pharynx begin to vibrate and hit each other, causing snoring.

What is Migraine and How is it Cured?

A migraine is much more than a bad headache. This neurological disease can cause debilitating throbbing pain that can leave you in bed for days! Movement, light, sound and other triggers may cause symptoms like pain, tiredness, nausea, visual disturbances, numbness and tingling, irritability, difficulty speaking, temporary loss of vision and many more.

Migraine headaches are chronic. They can’t be cured, but they can be managed and possibly improved. There are two main treatment approaches that use medications: abortive and preventive.

Abortive medications are most effective when you use them at the first sign of a migraine. Take them while the pain is mild. By possibly stopping the headache process, abortive medications help stop or decrease your migraine symptoms, including pain, nausea, light sensitivity, etc. Some abortive medications work by constricting your blood vessels, bringing them back to normal and relieving the throbbing pain.

Preventive (prophylactic) medications may be prescribed when your headaches are severe, occur more than four times a month and are significantly interfering with your normal activities. Preventive medications reduce the frequency and severity of the headaches. Medications are generally taken on a regular, daily basis to help prevent migraines.

WHY does a person sleepwalk at night?

People suffering from this disorder may "activate" at night during sleep if any irritant or stressful situation arises in the dream.

Under such conditions, people try to implement the actions they need in dreams in the real world. And they manage to do this because the so-called state of sleep paralysis is not in an active stage, which means that a person can get out of bed and perform the simplest actions.
