If a person has not understood and accepted the fact that they are an inherent sinner who is heading for hell, then that person has no need of the Savior Jesus Christ, just as someone who is not drowning does not need any help from a rescuer.
If we have even just a tiny bit of sin before God, we will suffer destruction according to His Law that states that "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).
The truth is, that it doesn't matter whether one is an elder of a church, a long time devoted member of a congregation, or a world renowned pastor, if that person has sin in their heart, then the Holy God has no part with them and, in the end, they will surely perish. If they have not been cleansed of all their past, present and future sins at once by faith in the righteousness of God, fulfilled by the baptism Jesus received from John the Baptist, then they are no closer to God than an unbeliever.
However, if sinners accept that God has not part with them, no matter who they may be, and accept that His judgement against them is just and true, then they can really seek His mercy and be saved by believing that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan to receive all our sins upon His own body and was crucified to pay the wages for our sins once and for all (Matthew 3:13-17).
His resurrection has given new life to all of us who were destined for hell and has transformed us who believe into the sinless, born again children of God.
