Portugal v Spain - UEFA Nations League 2025 Final Photo by James Gill - Danehouse/Getty Images Who will play left wing for Bayern Munich next season? With Nico Williams opting to chase a career with FC Barcelona rather than in Bavaria, Bayern Munich could turn its attention back to Rafael Leão per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano: ⚪️ Bayern have discussed again Rafael Leão internally as winger option this week.No proposal or negotiations advancing yet.Bayern will wait for Nico Williams to see if the deal gets done with Barcelona… and then will re-assess options, including Leão, Barcola and more.Bayern Munich’s ability to get Leão is questionable at this point. AC Milan does not seem overly eager to let him go and would expect a handsome payday to do so.As Bayern Munich’s desperation grows, Leão could really come more in focus. Germany Training And Press Conference Photo by Maja Hitij/Bongarts/Getty Images Özil had a relatively similar path to Sané; starting in Gelsenkirchen and winding up in Turkey. Leroy Sané is still playing with Bayern Munich at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States before heading to Turkey following his move to Galatasaray. Sané will be able to play in the rest of the Group Stage of the tournament and possibly a Round of 16 match, assuming Bayern advance to the knockout stages. The decision to leave Bayern came down to the wire for Sané in having to make his final decision prior to the close of the miniature summer transfer window that was opened for clubs playing in the Club World Cup. The narrative surrounding his future either at Bayern or elsewhere shifted several times within the span of the last couple of months and his future has been decided — a three-year deal with Galatasaray.Former Germany international Mesut Özil, much like Sané, started in the youth ranks at Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen and eventually wound up playing in the Turkish Super Liga for both Fenerbahçe and then İstanbul Başakşehir at the end of his career. Prior to his stint in Turkey to close out his playing days, Özil had matchups against Sané in the Premier League when he played for Arsenal and Sané played for Manchester City while they were both in the Germany team. Özil was recently asked about Sané’s transfer from Bayern to Galatasaray, and the midfielder is highly in favor of the move and is excited for his ex-Germany teammate to start his new chapter in Turkey. “I’m very happy that Leroy has come to Turkey. He is someone who, like me, has come from the Schalke youth academy. We talked, but it’s not like I directed him to Galatasaray as written in the media. He asked about life in Turkey and Istanbul, we talked about these things. I said it was a very beautiful and safe city. I said we have incredible food. I said I would be very happy if you came, and he came. I wish him success,” Özil enthused to Goal (via @iMiaSanMia). Arsenal v Manchester City - Carabao Cup Final Photo by James Baylis - AMA/Getty Images Sané has been able to stay in and around the national team setup under all of Joachim Löw, Hansi Flick, and Julian Nagelsmann even when he’s not playing particularly well for Bayern. Moving to Galatasaray gives him another chance to be a star player at his club. The anticipation of his move to Bayern when he was still with Manchester City raised the bar of expectation significantly with how long it took the German Rekordmeister to finally land him, but it’s safe to say his tenure in Munich, overall, was slightly underwhelming.

FC Bayern München v Auckland City FC: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Marcio Machado/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images Bayern Munich will have to keep its head on a swivel... Bayern Munich is just a few hours from taking on Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup and Harry Kane knows it is time to step things up. “Obviously, it’s a step up in quality compared to the first game, but we’ll prepare for it the same way we did against Auckland and every other team we play. They’ll give us a big fight and do everything they can to throw us off our game. We have to be prepared for that. We can take a big step towards the knockout stage. That’s what we’re focused on,” Kane said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). For Serge Gnabry, the aggressive nature of Boca Juniors will be something for Bayern Munich to adapt to. “You don’t come across these kinds of games very often at the European level, where the opponent is so aggressive. But we have to hold our own and concentrate on our game. Then it’ll be a game like any other. The stadium will be very loud, it will be a great game. I’m a big Boca fan,” said Gnabry (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Clearly, this one should be a lot of fun. FC Bayern Muenchen Teams Celebrate Winning The Leagues Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images As long as he’s competing for titles, Goretzka is all in. Leon Goretzka has logged more than 1,300 minutes in ten consecutive Bundesliga seasons. The last seven campaigns have occurred at Bayern Munich, winning six Meisterschalen and the coveted Champions League final in 2020.Unfortunately, Goretzka’s consistency and efforts have not always been appreciated by the decision makers at Säbener Straße. Goretzka knows that he could be transferred at any moment, although his €13M salary and desire to stay in Munich is a high barrier for potential suitors. With his contract expiring in 2026 at the age of 31, Goretzka understands that he may not be able to finish out his career in the Bundesliga.“Physically, I don’t feel at all like I’m approaching the end of my career,” said Goretzka (via @iMiaSanMia). “In fact, I feel fitter than ever before. I hopefully still have a few years ahead of me, so I wouldn’t rule [a move abroad] out. But it’s not an urgent topic.”Goretzka’s relentless work ethic has endeared him to the Bayern faithful. If this is his last year with the club, he wants to go out with a bang and another trophy (or three).Looking for some thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich signing of Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah? What about a discussion on what is going on with Leroy Sané and how likely he is to join Arsenal FC or Tottenham Hotspur? FInally, we hit on the Champions League finale in Munich and how the trickle-down effect of bad decisions from the past few years cost Bayern Munich the chance to play for the UCL crown at home. Cruzeiro v Atletico Mineiro - Brasileirao 2025 Photo by Pedro Vilela/Getty Images Is Bayern Munich looking for a Harry Kane backup? According to a report from O Tempo (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is taking a look at 23-year-old Brazilian striker Kaio Jorge. With a contract through 2029, though, the Cruzeiro attacker will not be easy to get: Bayern have recently sent a club representative to Belo Horizonte to gather information about the situation Cruzeiro striker Kaio Jorge (23). Initial talks have taken place, but so far there has been no official offer. Cruzeiro are unwilling to sell the player, under contract until 2029.Bayern Munich is always on the hunt for talent, but could be looking down the road at what it will do if Harry Kane leaves in 2026 or 2027. At that point, the center-forward position will come into full focus once again (remember when Robert Lewandowski left for FC Barcelona?). FC Bayern München v Auckland City FC: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Let’s talk Bayern Munich... Bayern Munich’s true offseason will not start until after the Club World Cup, but there is plenty to talk about. Even with the big match against Boca Juniors on the horizon, the Bavarians have plenty of news dropping by the hour. Let’s get into it, this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Podcast: Max Eberl has an unenviable task this summer to cut salaries and add talent. It won’t be easy, but at least his bosses are going to be patient...right? Right?Rudi Völler says he knew a few months ago that Florian Wirtz was headed to Liverpool FC, which kind of leaves more egg on the face of Bayern Munich. FC Bayern Muenchen Teams Celebrate Winning The Leagues Photo by Johannes Simon/Getty Images Looks like they’ve made their mind on his place at the club... Bayern Munich has begun what is already a busy transfer window this summer, having signed Tom Bischof and Jonathan Tah, and sold Leroy Sané. However, Sané isn’t the only player they’re selling now.According to a report from Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern is not only looking to sell goalkeeper Daniel Peretz permanently, but has also decided on a fee that they intend on demanding for the Israeli. The price tag is set at €8 million, and they’re hoping to get nothing less than that. Peretz joined Bayern for a fee of €5 million, so it looks like the club is looking to make a profit on the keeper after having him on the rotatory squad for two years. The keepers contribution to the club and his overall talent with respect to replacing Manuel Neuer has come under questioning more than once, but it looks like Bayern has finally decided that they do not want him to be the new number one.

Beckenbauer Cup FC Bayern München 125 Years Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich will take the pitch at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida against Boca Juniors and one of the German giant’s former stars has offered a warning about tonight’s opposition. “If they see the slightest opportunity to break the rhythm, they’ll take it. Bayern have to prepare for an unpleasant opponent. Games against Boca are painful. They like to go for the bones and play hard. Bayern’s wingers in particular, probably (Kingsley) Coman and (Michael) Olise, will feel that,” former Bayern Munich outside-back Rafinha told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). It is true, it might be very hard for Bayern Munich ti avoid the physicality of Boca Juniors. In turn, head coach Vincent Kompany added a few “enforcers” into the mix as Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka will start in hopes of deterring some of the overly aggressive play from Boca Juniors. FC Bayern München v Auckland City FC: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Michael Regan - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images Bayern fans can expect a contentious 90 minutes from a feisty Argentine club. After drubbing Auckland City 10-0 on Sunday, Bayern Munich head into the second match of the FIFA Club World Cup with a big lead in Group C. Thanks to the 2-2 draw between Boca Juniors and Benfica, Bayern can officially advance to the knockout stage with a win over Boca Juniors.Historically, Bayern and Boca Juniors have only met once before. In the 2001 Intercontinental Cup final, Bayern beat the reigning champions 1-0 in extra time. Odds: Bayern (-556), Draw (+550), Boca Juniors (+1200)Prediction: Bayern wins, 3-1. Bayern’s high line will get burned early by a sneaky fast counterattack. Bayern will lock in and dominate possession (at least 75%), finding a set piece goal before halftime. In the 57th minute, Musiala will get destroyed in the box and Harry Kane will bury the penalty kick. In the dying minutes, Leroy Sané will deliver a breathtaking finish on a breakaway. It’s Bayern time. While you’re waiting for the game, why not check out our preview podcast? FC Bayern München Training Session And Press Conference - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images Coman speaks his mind. The reports suggesting that Kingsley Coman wants to leave Bayern Munich have been numerous. In fact, the narrative around Coman has evolved from a strong desire from both club and player to part ways, to the player’s desire to stay, to the desire from both club and player (again) to part ways. So, at the end of the day, we are back where we started.Suddenly, however, Coman has decided to speak up. In the pre match conference before the Club World Cup match against Boca Juniors, the former Juventus winger made his feelings very clear: “I want to stay. I have two years left on my contract, that’s simple,” Coman said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “You have a contract and you feel comfortable, then you want to stay. But there are many things so you can never know at 100%.”Of course, it is easy to notice that Coman did not completely rule out a move. But if he does move, as it stands, it will not be because the club pushed him out: “Nobody at the club has ever told me you have to leave,” Coman explained, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “The coach [Vincent Kompany] has always told me: ‘I need you, I need you fit’ - I never had the feeling that I had to go.”Nor has he read these rumors of a potential departure: “I don’t read newspapers. I have a very good relationship with the coach,” Coman assured, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I just want to stay fit and perform.”As Coman said, one never knows for sure. But it does seem a lot more likely now that Coman will remain at Bayern beyond the summer than at any other point this year.

FC Bayern München Training Session And Press Conference - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Hector Vivas - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images Fire up the WhatsApp group! Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is wary of the challenge that Boca Juniors will present in the Club World Cup. “They’re a very dangerous team in transition. They believe in their moments. The team’s spirit is good. They also have the quality; they’re a very good team. We respect Boca. But we’re looking at ourselves and want to bring our qualities into the game,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We know the quality of the tournament. We are FC Bayern and we have the ambition to win every game. Every team that participates here is a winning team. We have absolute respect for all teams here. We know a lot of Argentine players from European leagues. It’s a type of football we understand very well. There will be emotions in the game. We watched the Boca vs. Benfica game, and there were emotions in the game. It might feel a bit like an away game. But we want to be Bayern Munich. We have to show the right emotions on the pitch.”Even with already knowing how good the teams in the tourney are, Kompany still drove 3.5 hours earlier this week to get a look at Boca Juniors. “I think other coaches do that too. For me, it was perfectly logical. It wasn’t a long trip, and it was important for us to be able to assess the teams. Boca have a new coach. We also got a sense of the stadium and the atmosphere. That’s good information. But the most important information is when I look the players in the eyes and see that they’re 100% committed,” said Kompany. CA Boca Juniors v SL Benfica: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images Can Boca Juniors take down the big, red juggernaut from Germany? Boca Juniors head coach Miguel Ángel Russo has an idea of what else besides goals it will take to beat Bayern Munich at the Club World Cup. “With head and heart, always. We have to start the game with 11 and finish it with 11. We have to have the intelligence necessary to play these types of games. We watched Bayern and looked for the best way to face them. We’ve seen a lot of things from our opponent, but Boca Juniors is also respectable in many ways. We have to find the style that benefits us the most in this game,” said Russo.Bayern Munich boat-raced Auckland City FC 10-0 in the first game, while Boca Junior earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Benfica in a match that earned several players a suspension. FC Bayern München Team Presentation Photo by S. Gabriel/FC Bayern via Getty Images It’s match day! Bayern Munich vs. Boca Juniors! Bayern might be hedging on its home kit (Bild via @iMiaSanMia)Fans have been sounding out about, well, not necessarily being fond of Bayern Munich’s new home kit. As it turns out, not everyone within the club seems to be in love, either. At least a few folks talked around the awkward style choice: Max Eberl on the new home kit: “I know that taste is subjective. I saw the jerseys properly for the first time today [yesterday], and I think they’re very well done.”Aleks Pavlović: “I think we have to get used to it a bit. But it [the perspective] will change from game to game. We, and the fans, will have to get used to it a bit.”Jonathan Tah: “To be honest, I’m very proud to wear this badge. I think it [the kit] is nice and I was happy to put it on.”Pavlović seems to be the only one with his fingers not crossed behind his back. How are you feeling about the home kit?United eyeing Hudson-Odoi (ESPN)Manchester United could be making a player for former Bayern Munich transfer target Callum Hudson-Odoi: Manchester United could rival AS Roma and Napoli for Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, reports The Sun. With all three clubs circling, Forest are preparing to offer the 24-year-old a new contract this summer. United are reported to have enquired about his availability back in January, but were rejected. Nevertheless, interest remains in Hudson-Odoi, whose contract expires next June. According to a report form Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich cannot risk losing Kingsley Coman at the moment and the Frenchman is not looking to leave anyway: Kingsley Coman is still considered a candidate for sale for Bayern this summer, but the club is not pushing for a quick sale mainly because there’s no replacement yet. Furthermore, after the confirmed departure of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller - as well as Bryan Zaragoza’s likely exit, Bayern simply cannot afford to lose Coman too at the moment. With a big contract until 2027, Coman himself is in a comfortable position and is not actively looking for a new club. The reports on Coman have been conflicting of late, but realistically, what other club is going to pay Coman’s salary for the next two seasons? FC Bayern Muenchen Press Conference Photo by Johannes Simon/Getty Images Bayern have let the two companies bid against each other and have received a handsome profit. Telekom have been Bayern Munich’s shirt sponsor since 2004, with the partnership between the two never truly being tested since then. Bayern shirts without the giant T on them have become impossible to imagine. It has even become a Bavarian tradition to see a white T in the stands of the Allianz Arena, with Telekom employees performing an additional bit of advertisement. All of a sudden, however, the two decade long partnership was threatened by Emirates. The Dubai owned company reportedly came in with an offer of €65 million per year to be the Bavarians’ shirt sponsor after the initial contract with Telekom ended in 2027, a significant 30% increase on Telekom’s current payment €50 million per year. A long bidding war seemed set to ensue.According to Bild, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, the bidding war is already over, though. Telekom have matched Emirates’ bid and are close to extending their contract with Bayern:Telekom will remain Bayern’s main shirt sponsor in the future - a new contract is close to being agreed. After competition from Emirates, Telekom has significantly improved its offer. The contract, currently running until 2027, will be extended by five years. A payment of up to €65 million per year is being discussed. Previously, Telekom paid approximately €50 million. This represents an increase of 30% – and a total package of up to €325 million over the entire contract term.If this is true, this perhaps represents the best possible outcome for Bayern. The reliable partnership with Telekom has been extended, the controversial and extremely morally dubious (at least a but more than Telekom, anyway) company owned by Dubai does not get to be Bayern’s shirt sponsor and Bayern earns significantly more money, too.

FC Bayern München v Borussia Mönchengladbach - Bundesliga Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Ask not what your club can do for you... Uli Hoeneß — the proverbial Mother Hen of Bayern Munich — is still setting the tone at Säbener Straße.Midfielder Leon Goretzka cited Hoeneß’ example as one that showed him the way to fight back into the Bayern lineup after a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign. Goretzka elaborated on earlier comments this Spring in a Welt am Sonntag interview, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:In March, you quoted Uli Hoeneß, who said that everyone at Bayern Munich had to ask themselves whether they could help the club, regardless of whether they were a groundskeeper or a player.“I’d already asked myself that question before, back in the summer of 2023. And even then, the answer was yes,” Goretzka responded. “When I saw Uli Hoeneß expressing that, I realized it. It’s a process you work out within yourself. I’m someone who thinks a lot. And that’s the perfect question for everyone here at the club.”Hoeneß didn’t only lead by example either — but knew how and when to directly encourage players in tough situations.”I spoke with Uli Hoeneß. He has a very good sense of when he can and should contact the players. I had many important conversations with him. Uli Hoeneß was always there for me,” Goretzka added. For the first half of the season, Goretzka’s career looked like it was going off the rails. Now, his future at Bayern may still be in question, but he has restored his way in Vincent Kompany’s XI and also the German men’s national team. Things are looking up, finally.

CA Boca Juniors v SL Benfica: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Carl Kafka/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images The Benfica forward is backing Bayern to top group C and progress to the knockout stages. The first round of group stage matches at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States is just about complete and Bayern Munich have put themselves in pole position in group C with their 10-0 win over Auckland City in Cincinnati, Ohio. While the result against the New Zealand outfit was more than expected, Vincent Kompany fielded a much stronger starting eleven than was anticipated, setting the tone for how seriously the German Rekordmeister are taking the tournament itself.Elsewhere in Group C from the first round of matches, Boca Juniors and Benfica played out to an enthralling, action-packed 2-2 draw that saw a total of three red cards brandished; two for Boca Juniors, and one for Benfica. Both sides prevent much tougher tests for Bayern than Auckland City, but the aim is still to finish the group with nine points after three matches played and progressing to the knockout stages with flying colors.Benfica forward Vangelis Pavlidis was recently asked about having Bayern in the same group as the Portuguese side that finished second behind Sporting Lisbon this past season. They play Bayern in the last of their three group stage matches, but the striker feels that Kompany’s side are certainly the favorites to go on and win the group.“Of course Bayern are the favorites in the group. We played against them in the Champions League and we saw how good they are and how good their players are. We are not afraid of anyone, but of course we have to be very careful. The most important thing for us now is the first game against Boca,” Pavlidis explained (via @iMiaSanMia). FC Bayern München v SL Benfica - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images The last time the two sides met, Bayern came out the 1-0 victors at the Allianz Arena thanks to a Jamal Musiala goal in the group stages of the Champions League back in November. At the time, that had come after Bayern suffered losses to Barcelona and Aston Villa in the Champions League group stages, desperately needing the win they got over Benfica. The stakes might not be as high when the two sides meet in the Club World Cup, but it will be a contest nonetheless. CA Boca Juniors v SL Benfica: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Sebastian Frej/Getty Images So much for that… Edinson Cavani has had a long and interesting career. The Uruguayan forward played for SC Napoli, Paris Saint Germain, Manchester United and Valencia among other clubs before ending up at Boca Juniors. In those years, the 38-year-old has faced Bayern Munich 4 times. Twice with Napoli in the Champions League group stages against Heynckes’ Reds in the infamously aggravating 2011/12 season and twice with Paris Saint Germain against Ancelotti’s Bavarians, even scoring in the Parisians’ 3-0 home win that saw Ancelotti relieved of his duties. But the odds of facing Bayern a fifth time seem very slim at the moment. According to digital news site Minuto Neuquén, via @iMiaSanMia, Cavani is a major doubt for Boca Junior’s match against Bayern:Edinson Cavani is a major doubt for the game against Bayern with a calf injury. He’s already missed the Benfica game with the same issue. In the best case scenario he would only make the bench. It is a shame. But as one grows older, that is what tends to happen. At 38-years-old and playing in South America, one would imagine this is the last chance of a “Cavani vs Bayern” sequel.
