FC Bayern München v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Youth games are wrapping up for the year... Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the matches of Bayern Munich’s U-19 and U-23 squads are recapped, line ups are provided and the highlights to each match are hyperlinked on top of their respective score lines. The U-17 Bundesliga is currently taking a winter break, so there is no U-17 match to recap this weekend. Unfortunately, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. Without further ado, here is the round up:Augsburg II 1-3 Bayern IIBayern lineup (with subs): Schmitt – Brückner (77. Dell’Erba), Breitkreuz, Dettoni, Aznou – Becker, Rüger (77. Scott), Della Rovere (77. Demircan) – Aseko Nkili, Irankunda (90.+9 Unsöld), Asp Jensen (90.+12 Marušić).Goals: 1:0 Hofgärtner (27.), 1:1 Asp Jensen (44.), 1:2 Dell’Erba (p.) (90.+7), 1:3 Asp Jensen (90.+10)Unused subs: Ballis – Chávez.Unavailable players: Younes Aitamer, Vincent Manuba, Moritz Mosandl, Javier Fernandez, Timo Kern, Luca Denk, Adin Ličina, Maximilian WagnerThese are the kind of games we all watch football for. And what a way to close out the year of 2024 for Bayern II. The game threw all sorts of surprise at the viewers, starting with Bayern’s lineup. Adam Aznou returned from warming the bench of Bayern’s first team with his first appearance for Bayern II since September, while Ličina’s injury-just as he was starting to find form, too- allowed room in the lineup for Nestory Irankunda to start. But the opposition also had a curve ball to throw, with Augsburg demoting former Bayern youngster Yusuf Kabadayi from the first team into the starting XI of their U-23s for the match against Bayern’s U-23s. This was Kabadayi’s first game for Augsburg II, 22 matchdays into the season. What are the odds? The game itself was beset with a lot of difficulties from the get go. The bitter December cold in Germany made the ground hard and the pitch nearly unplayable, with divots everywhere and the ball bouncing all over the place. If that was not bad enough, the wind was incredibly unpredictable and unbelievably fierce, constantly buffeting the players and making passing even more difficult. What was even more unpredictable, though, was the match. The first 17 minutes saw Bayern II carve out multiple big chances. But then Augsburg started taking control, taking advantage of Bayern’s extremely brittle build up to constantly win the ball via their pressing and create big chances. They scored first, too, with their 26th minute goal a perfect fit for the chaotic nature of the match. With their pressing and how often they won their duels and the second ball, Augsburg gave Bayern no chance to breathe. They had full control of the match. And then they didn’t. Out of nothing, a brilliantly floated Guido Della Rovere cross found the head of Jonathan Asp Jensen and Bayern equalized on the stroke of half time, with the topsy turvy first 45 minutes ending with a stalemate. Things did not calm down after the break, either. No team was able to maintain the upper hand for long as the momentum swung back and forth between both teams. And the defenses both suffered, as both sides created unbelievable goal scoring chances that they were unable to convert. Kabadayi was the most culpable in this regard, as the 20-year-old should have walked away with at least a hat trick. Then, all of a sudden, one such attack proved consequential as a rapid counter in added time saw Michael Scott break into the box free to score a goal, only to be hauled back by the defender behind him. It was a penalty for Bayern in the 93rd minute. All of a sudden, everything rested on the shoulders of substitute Davide Dell’Erba, the former Augsburg II player. Regular penalty taker Timo Kern was unavailable for the match, so it was up to the makeshift left back to take his first penalty of the season in such a high pressure situation. The pressure got worse as the uneven pitch made it nearly impossible…

FC Bayern München v Sport-Club Freiburg - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Well this is an interesting shirt. Bayern Munich’s kits have been taking some unique ventures over the past few years, but the latest leak shows a shirt that might shock any fan. Footy Headlines, recently revealed a leak of the upcoming Bayern Munich home shirt and the early concept is creative, to say the least. Bayern's 2025/26 home shirt has the club's traditional colors red and white in a 'never-seen-before look'. The kit boasts a giant M, reminiscent of Munich’s initial, fading from red to white

The exact look of the kit remains disclosed - The design below is a prediction based… pic.twitter.com/VP4A7nF0pl— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 15, 2024That’s right. The early concept shows a bland red shirt with a massive ‘M’ fading from white into the red theme of the kit. The ‘M’ is supposedly representing the initial of the city’s name, which seems like an incredibly odd choice. Nonetheless, it appears this is the direction Adidas is heading in for next season’s home kit.Of course, this is an early leak and the concept may be less attractive than the real thing. Germany’s away kit at Euro 2024 was not a pretty sight at early leaks but turned out to be a very good-looking and popular kit amongst fans. What are your thoughts on the concept? A needed update or a big miss? Let us know in the comments!

Bayern Munich - FC Augsburg Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images This is a great opportunity for rotational players to earn some minutes. After back-to-back Champions League losses to Aston Villa and FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich responded with a pair of 1-0 wins over Benfica and PSG. Bayern will be heavy favorites in their final three group stage matches, the first of which is tomorrow against Shakhtar Donetsk.Due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the match will be played at a neutral site in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. This will make it a decent trek for both fanbases but will allow the home side on paper, Shakhtar, to avoid playing at the Allianz Arena. The only previous meeting between Bayern and Shakhtar occurred in the Round of 16 during 2014/15 Champions League campaign. In the first leg, Bayern’s Xabi Alonso picked up a second yellow card in the 65th minute and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. In the second leg, Shakhtar’s Oleksandr Kucher earned a straight red card in the 4th minute and Bayern cruised to a 7-0 victory. Bayern was eventually eliminated by Barcelona in the semifinals that year.Bayern is currently in 13th place of the Champions League table with their most difficult matchups behind them. On the flip side, Shakhtar has struggled mightily and still has to deal with Dortmund and Brest, both of whom are ahead of Bayern in the standings. On the domestic front, Shakhtar is four points behind Dynamo Kiev in the Ukrainian Premier League.Team newsHere are the lineups predictions, provided by BFW: Media Until Harry Kane returns, expect a rotation of Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sané, and Mathys Tel at the number nine position. The offense was positionless for the first half of the Heidenheim match and this could be effective again, although Thomas Müller might need to move down to the endline to shout instructions.Aleksandar Pavlović has looked fantastic since returning from injury and should be the guaranteed starter next to Joshua Kimmich in the midfield moving forward. Sacha Boey has always played well and is a better fit than Konrad Laimer at right back.Müller, Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka are the only reliable and healthy substitutes at the moment. This opens the door for youth prospects like Arijon Ibrahimović, Adam Aznou, Anthony Pavlešić, and Jonah Kusi-Asare to steal some late minutes.Alphonso Davies and Kingsley Coman sustained injuries in the Heidenheim win that will sideline them for the rest of the month. Manuel Neuer is unlikely to play. Bayern will also continue to play without the services of Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, João Palhinha, Josip Stanišić, and Hiroki Itō.Shakhtar plays a standard four-back defense but the midfield and attack varies each match. Shakhtar used a 4-2-3-1 against both Bologna and Arsenal, only conceding one goal between the two matches. Defender Mykola Matviyenko is the captain, while the main goal scoring threats are Heorhiy Sudakov, Artem Bondarenko, and Oleksandr Zubkov.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s Champions League tilt vs. Shakhtar Donetsk? FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Is something...amiss? At Bayern Munich’s recently concluded AGM or general meeting, club president Herbert Hainer gave an appeal to extend three Bayern players—namely Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies. “Three different stories, three different paths - and three players who grew up here in Munich”, Hainer declared during his speech (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “We’ve had Beckenbauer, Hoeneß, Rummenigge, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller and Neuer. Now Jamal, Jo and Phonzy should also join these ranks - and set guardrails for the next generations, on and off the pitch”. FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images One notable player he did leave out, though, was Leroy Sané. “We have several players whose contracts expire in 2025. I don’t want to talk about every single player today”, Hainer stressed (via @iMiaSanMia). “I’ve spoken about these three because I believe that they can become, or already are, defining faces of FC Bayern.”The consensus within the club is that Sané is undeserving of a new contract at the moment. The latest Bavarian Podcast Works Show has dropped! Let’s talk about the news breaking from the AGM, Bayern Munich’s complex injury situation, and why the club probably doesn’t just want Florian Wirtz, but needs him. Tottenham Hotspur v FC Bayern Munich - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Domenic Aquilina/NurPhoto via Getty Images This writer would certainly consider it an honor. But, coming from a Bayern fan, such a sentiment may be expected. With just over six months left on Joshua Kimmich’s contract at Bayern Munich, the player’s future at Bayern is far from certain. The club are attempting to renew the former VfB Stuttgart player’s contract, but whether he believes remaining in Munich to be the right step for his career is a different matter entirely. However, motivation on Bayern’s side seems quite high to get the deal done.“Of course we want to keep him,” club president Herbert Hainer explained in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “I would be happy if he ended his career at FC Bayern. He should become our captain one day, and when I look at it like that: Beckenbauer, Matthäus, Effenberg, Kahn, Neuer — who wouldn’t want to join them? These are names that FC Bayern fans will rave about forever. Jo always gives 110%. He’s a role model in the red shirt, and he should stay that way.”Of course, Kimmich has already worn the armband in the past. But getting the title on a permanent basis is something else entirely. Kimmich could join a list of incredibly high class players in receiving that honor. Bayern will hope that such a draw will be a tipping point in getting the Germany captain to extend his stay in Munich.

Real Madrid v FC Bayern München: Semi-final Second Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images That is perhaps not the biggest vote of confidence for the new tournament...and that is a good thing Uli Hoeneß enjoys taking his own stance on just about every topic in the world. Fresh off of promising that Bayern Munich would win the title in November, he then turned his attention to the Club World Cup. Whereas multiple Bayern executives have met the new FIFA Club World Cup format with excitement, the supervisory board member’s response was rather...less enthusiastic:“We have to take part in the Club World Cup because we as Bayern Munich cannot afford to do otherwise. Things are even worse in England. They have even more competitions. It’s crazy. All just to put even more money into the agents and the players. This cannot continue.”‘We take part in it because we have to’ is not exactly a statement dripping with support, but it is unsurprising. Hoeness was just complaining about the load put on players, so seeing a new version of a tournament created that will put more stress on the players during the summer, which should be their rest time, would not be something he agrees with. However, the new Club World Cup is rumored to be very lucrative for all clubs taking part, with some sources reporting earnings of €50 to 100 million or every participating club, depending on the progress in the tournament, a ridiculous amount for a tournament that lasts around a month-though the tournament may not be able to truly deliver this sort of prize money in its’ current disorganized state. If Bayern wishes to remain financially competitive with the best teams in the world, the team may be forced to participate...for the money, if not the actual tournament itself.

U17 England v U17 Germany - International Friendly Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images Bros helping bros Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala’s story is an interesting one. Born in Germany and moving to England to play football, such a jump would take some time getting used to. Musiala was fortunate enough to come across Levi Colwill in the Southampton reserves, who helped him learn English and get him acclimatized to the atmosphere there.“It’s funny actually because one of the first friends I made when I came to England was Levi Colwill”, Musiala recalled (via Players’ Tribune). “I showed up on the first day of training at Southampton’s academy, and I was speaking 99% German. But you know how football is … it’s the universal language.” Premier League ‘Christmas Truce’ Event Photo by Tom Shaw/Getty Images for Premier League Musiala’s first spoken dialogue to Colwill was a mix of English and a bit of German. They since became close (even sharing the exact same birthday: 26 February 2003), and both lads moved to Chelsea FC academy not long after. Musiala then immortalized his first friendship with a photo, something you’ll learn more about in the next part. Musiala was digging through old photos and traced his football career back to one image.“Do you ever sit around your house and you get to that advanced stage of chilling where you start scrolling through your camera roll? But I mean deep in the scroll. Back to the very beginning. I love to do that, because it’s like seeing the movie of your life play in reverse.”To be continued.

Bayern Munich - Bayer Leverkusen Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images He will have many good option to choose from. And some bad ones, too. Mathys Tel has had a very rough Hinrunde at Bayern Munich. Anyone who has paid attention to the Bavarian giants recently will be very aware of this, too, since the rumors about his departure have been growing. After all, despite his poor season to date, the U-21 France international has a lot of fans. There have already been many inquiries for the youngster in previous transfer windows and they were all rejected, but clubs just keep coming back to check up on his status. Twitter account @iMiaSanMia captures a report that claims it can identify five of these admirers:Stuttgart, [Werder] Bremen, Augsburg, Lazio and Valencia are among many clubs interested in signing Mathys Tel on loan.Notice the specification that these five clubs are simply among the clubs interested, not the sum total. Just how many clubs want to sign Mathys Tel? It may also be somewhat farcical that Augsburg are one of the clubs looking for a loan, considering they already have Bayern loanee Yusuf Kabadayi in their squad and struggle to give him opportunities to play. Would a loan for Tel not just kill any remaining chance for Kabadayi to feature? Why would Bayern do that?Still, the incredible amount of interest is a good thing: If the €28 million transfer from Stade Rennais does decide to leave, he will have a host of fantastic options to choose from.

FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images Bayern Munich is taking on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League... Versatile Bayern Munich star Konrad Laimer says that his squad is focused on facing Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and will not overlook the Ukrainian squad. “We’re preparing like we would for any other opponent, we haven’t done the full analysis yet. Shakhtar is a good team with talented and experienced players. That’s why it’s important to prepare well for them,” said Laimer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It doesn’t matter where I play. I feel most comfortable in midfield, that’s where I can best give my qualities to the team. But I also enjoy playing right-back. I don’t care where I play, the most important thing is that I play.“Generally speaking, the topic of workload always comes up in football. We have a big, good squad at Bayern. Everyone has to make sure they stay fit. There will always be injuries regardless of how many games there are. Everyone is responsible for their own body.”While we do not know if Laimer will get the starting nod as of yet, one player who will is Daniel Peretz, who will start after Manuel Neuer suffered a broken rib last week. Laimer says Peretz is up for the challenge. “Daniel has been calm and composed. It’s the same as with any other player, there’s complete trust and complete support. We’re trying as a team to make it as easy as possible for him. We want to approach it as a team and do our thing,” said Laimer. Newcastle United FC v Liverpool FC - Premier League Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA/Getty Images Is this the way? With all the recent talk of Manuel Neuer potentially being replaced next season at Bayern Munich, Didi Hamann tossed his opinion into the mix...and it certainly is an “outside the box” suggestion — Liverpool FC’s Caoimhin Kelleher.“The only way to keep Caoimhin Kelleher at Liverpool is to start him. For me he is one of the top five keepers around and I could only name a few better in the Premier League. I think Alisson will come back in to play after his injury, but one more big injury for him and I think Kelleher will take the spot for good,” Hamann told Genting Casino. “At some stage Kelleher is going to have to play or Liverpool will lose him. We will have to see what happens when Giorgi Mamardashvili arrives, but Kelleher cannot be the number two for another season. He has said that the club has refused to let him go, but if I was at a top club like Bayern Munich I’d be looking at him to replace Manuel Neuer. That’s how good he is.”Right now, it looks like Bayern Munich is — at least — considering bringing Neuer back for another season. If not, Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz are supposed to be the next in line. Could Bayern Munich follow Hamann’s advice on Kelleher?Looking to keep up with everything happening at Bayern Munich on — and off — the field? FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Can Bayern Munich get the job done in Gelsenkirchen... Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is not about to take Shakhtar Donetsk lightly in the Champions League on Tuesday. “Shakhtar have always been a team who dominate. I see that in our team as well. They sometimes change things in the Champions League. The composition of the team is interesting with a mix of young and experienced players. I played against Shakhtar a number of times. We’ve got respect for them. It’s an important game for us,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We have a lot of players out, but we’ve come through quite well so far. We’re also confident we’ll have a bigger squad again in January with lots of players coming back.“Of course, it’s something special. We’re in Germany, it’s almost like a home game for us. But it’s not the Allianz Arena either. Hopefully we get a win tomorrow.”Kompany also broke the news that Manuel Neuer did, indeed, suffer a broken rib. “Manuel Neuer has a broken rib. He probably won’t play again this year. We expect him back in January,” said Kompany, who also confirmed that Neuer suffered the injury while colliding with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong in the DFB-Pokal last week. “I’d never ask a player to be a copy of another. (Peretz) needs to play his game and has earned his minutes. Obviously we’d like to have Manuel fit, but that’s not the case right now. But we’ve not got any change to our game with Peretz. He’s earned it.”While Neuer is not available to face Shakhtar Donetsk, Kompany will be looking to count on another Bayern Munich player — Leroy Sané.“He’s got a lot of experience. He was young when we played together. He gets chances, which is important. You just then need to stay calm. He knows he can put the next one away. Sometimes you need to have some patience. He got an assist last game, so wasn’t unproductive. It’ll come,” said Kompany. Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s Champions League tilt vs. Shakhtar Donetsk? Fans of the Shakhtar Donetsk football cl Photo credit should read Alexander KHUDOTEPLY/AFP via Getty Images Bayern Munich is back in UCL action. Bayern Munich is back in action in the Champions League and will travel to Gelsenkirchen to take on Shakhtar Donetsk. After a weird 4-2 win over Heidenheim over the weekend, Bayern Munich will be seeking to climb up the Champions League table with a strong effort against the Ukrainian side. Georgiy Sudakov is the clear star player for Shakhtar Donetsk and will be one of the more sought after players in Europe in the summer of 2025. Even with a stud like Sudakov, Shakhtar will likely find things very tough against Bayern Munich, who — despite being banged up — will be playing with a purpose. The injuries, though, will likely cause Vincent Kompany to have to get creative with his lineup, so we shall what he concocts for the big match. Join us here on Bavarian Football Works for the full story. We have news, updates, podcasts, analysis, and a lot more besides — for this game and so many others! We never miss a match, so be sure to check it all out.

Since then, the 21-year-old has quickly blossomed to become one of the most talented and popular players in world football. Most consider him the face of Bayern, soon to have his contract extended. One certainly thinks exactly how Musiala got to where he is now, and there’s an answer for that.He recently wrote an article for the Players’ Tribune where he recounted all of the key moments of his life leading up to the present time. In it are interesting tidbits that many have known or not well-known, and gives a different perspective on who he is. FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Another big week is on tap for Bayern Munich... Bayern Munich is down to its final three games before the Winterpause and some might consider the team to be a little bit wobbly at this point — albeit with a pretty sturdy Jamal Musiala-infused crutch to keep them upright (shout out, Toni Kroos). As things head into the homestretch before the break, let hit on some of the big topics of the day. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show: Some final takeaways on Bayern Munich’s win over Heidenheim. Retiring Franz Beckenbauer’s number is pretty cool, but I have a strong, anti-retiring numbers stance. I’m conflicted…help me!Bayern Munich is riddled with injuries now that Alphonso Davies and Kingsley Coman have joined the walking wounded. What can Vincent Kompany do to survive the next three games?Getting Florian Wirtz might actually be a necessity…let us make our case why.
