FC Bayern München v 1. FC Union Berlin - Bundesliga Moroccan national Adam Aznou in possession for Bayern Munich in Bundesliga match up against FC Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena on November 2024. | Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Minutes maketh man. Youth academy graduate Adam Aznou, a name fairly familiar amongst Bayern Munich fans despite his limited minutes for the first team, has featured in most Bayern Munich match day rosters in 2024 and even made his debut for Die Roten in November. Despite being considered one of Bayern’s hottest prospects, the latest reports from Tz suggest that the 18-year-old Moroccan could be on the move come the January transfer window, albeit on loan (via @iMiaSanMia). Internally, FC Bayern is currently discussing a loan for Adam Aznou. A decision should be made by Christmas.Aznou currently faces a string of competition in the left-back position. Primarily occupied by Alphonso Davies, Raphaël Guerreiro and potentially Hiroki Ito could also see minutes along the left side of defence, leaving a slim chance of minutes for Aznou.Pacey and a good crosser of the ball, Bayern certainly have a talent in Aznou, however, with limited minutes available, a loan move could be the best solution for Aznou’s long-term development. For the moment, the academy graduate hasn’t been linked to any clubs, likely because the player’s loan is still in discussion. Although, should Bayern decide to send Aznou on loan, there will surely be a host of clubs interested in taking the young talent.Nonetheless, Aznou will have to wait until Christmas, at least, until a decision has been made on his immediate future. FC Bayern München v 1. FC Union Berlin - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Bayern Munich will be getting some key players back in the fold... Bayern Munich’s first half of the season has seen several injuries to key players limit Vincent Kompany’s roster choices. One of the problems with that has been the unclear timetables for respective returns to the squad for each player. Now, though, it appears that there is more clarity for at least a few of them.According to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg provided an update on Aleksandar Pavlović and Josip Stanišić: If everything goes as planned, Aleksandar #Pavlovic will be back in the squad on Saturday against Heidenheim after his collarbone surgery.Josip #Stanisic is expected to rejoin team training later this month following his lateral ligament tear in his right knee, according to the current plan. In January 2025, at the start of the second half of the season, he aims to be fully fit again.Meanwhile, João Palhinha has a timeline — one that will see him return in 2025 (per Bild via @iMiaSanMia): Although he resumed running on the pitch, João Palhinha is still several weeks away from returning with the team. His return to team training is currently planned for the first session of the new year on January 2nd. By Christmas, Palhinha will gradually get back into competition shape with individual training.Looking to catch-up on all of the weekend action in the Bundesliga? FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images What’s old is new... One might think Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl could be annoyed by the prominent presence of Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at the club. Au contraire mon frère.“We don’t need to talk about Uli Hoeneß’s life’s work, or even Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s. It’s clear that the exchange with the supervisory board is intensive; we don’t need to talk on the phone every day and we don’t need a fixed weekly appointment. They give us the strength to make decisions,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We would be naive and stupid if we didn’t get advice from them. We all want to be successful, so it’s important that we all think about how we can achieve it and which path we want to take. The exchange is lively, including during the transfer period.“The fact that we didn’t win the title last season is a bummer for all of us. It’s up to us to learn the right lessons from it. One question we asked ourselves with regard to squad planning is why we had so many injuries in the past. When I see that Real Madrid got through the season with what felt like 14 or 15 players, it shows that you can manage the full schedule in terms of workload management.”Eberl wants to see the club evolve and seems intent on seeing it through...even if he might sometimes feel like someone is looking over his shoulder at times. What should we be thankful for with Bayern so far this season? Is Bayern going to let Leroy Sané walk away this summer? Let’s discuss all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show on Patreon, Spotify, or below:

FC St. Pauli 1910 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Well, I would hope so Bayern Munich have in their hands two of the best German footballers in the world at the moment, and they are trying their best to keep them at Säbener Straße.Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich have been absolutely essential to Bayern’s recent results, putting in some stellar performances over the last couple of games. Musiala especially, has been in incredible form recently. Considering that, the club intends on signing new contracts with both players as soon as possible. According to Christoph Freund, Sporting Director at Bayern, spoke on the possible contracts (captured by @iMiaSanMia).“We’re in good talks. Of course our wish would be to complete the deals as soon as possible. But the most important thing is that in the end there would be a positive result and that they extend. It doesn’t matter whether a week earlier or three weeks later. We are positive about both cases,” Freund said. Fans will be happy to see that the club is being proactive in this process, for these two particular players. Kimmich and Musiala have been more than satisfactory for both club and country, and to keep them at Bayern for longer would definitely be in their best interest. Germany v Italy - Women’s International Friendly Photo by Pau Barrena/Getty Images Germany lost a heartbreaker to Italy with two huge moments at the center of it. Time to rally around. When 20-year-old Bayern Munich keeper Ena Mahmutovic took one touch too many in front of goal late in her national team debut — a mistake that resulted in Italy’s 2-1 winner over Germany on Monday — Giulia Gwinn was one of the first to come and give her keeper some words of encouragement. The 25-year-old Bayern Munich defender is now one of the national team’s more established veterans and, though not officially ensconced as the permanent captain, wore the armband on the day. And she carried herself like a leader, too.“We can’t just blame it on the two individual mistakes,” Gwinn said after the match (as captured by DW Sports). “We could have scored four or five goals but wasted our chances.”Mahmutovic’s blunder — along with that of center-back Sarai Linder, whose slack pass led straight to Italy’s first goal — will stand out from this match. But a good team, as any good leader knows, responds and analyzes as a whole. And on the whole, the Germans have fared at least respectably — bringing in a new set of young stars and elevating more established veterans in the wake of some big retirements, notably that of VfL Wolfsburg striker Alexandra Popp. As well as that of keeper Merle Frohms, Popp’s club teammate. There were always bound to be growing pains.Against Italy, notably, the entire German build-up structure from the back looked shaky. More than once or twice the Germans played themselves into pressure or forced the ball into risky areas. Whether that is personnel, cohesion, or tactics will be something for head coach Christian Wück to resolve. And he will have time to do it. The Germans return to action in 2025 in the UEFA Women’s Nations League, with matches on February 21 at the Netherlands and February 25 vs. Austria.

FC Bayern München v SL Benfica - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Could this be the key step that propels the French winger back into the rotation? In recent matches, Bayern Munich’s defense has performed at an incredible work rate to earn seven consecutive clean sheet victories. On the flip side, Bayern’s offense has been struggling to generate consistent opportunities in the final third. In a surprise move, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has decided to reward Mathys Tel’s perseverance with his first start since the Freiburg win back in September. The result was a 1-1 draw and Tel struggled to get into the flow of the match.“It’s almost the same team that started against PSG,” said Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia). “We made one change. Serge is unavailable. King [Coman] spent a lot of energy [against PSG]. We need energy and pace today. Mathys did well in training. I have confidence in the boys.”Tel has become a hot topic within transfer rumors as Bayern have started to explore a six-month loan deal that would guarantee him more playing time. Tel has always proclaimed that he wants to stay and fight for his spot at Bayern rather than go out on a loan deal. Only time will tell which decision is best for the player and the club.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s Der Klassiker showdown vs. Borussia Dortmund? Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images Overall, it was a good game of football. Bayern Munich came back from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund. Without further ado, here are our observations. Bayern Munich yet again fails to win against strong Bundesliga oppositionBayern has played Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund so far; aside from RB Leipzig, they have played everyone in the top five and collectively earned zero wins. While you do not need to beat everyone to win the league, it is a bit concerning that in a year in which top Bundesliga opposition (aside from Frankfurt) has not really impressed, Bayern continues to fail to win. Bayern (and Vincent Kompany) show character to come from behindDespite their struggles in the first half, Bayern improved a lot in the second half, keeping possession and creating a few good chances. Had it not been for some woeful finishing and odd decision making in front of goal, an equalizer might have come far earlier. Bayern never stopped going for it and made minor adjustments. Kompany’s substitutions worked for the most part and added impetus to the offense. Eventually, the cheat code that is Jamal Musiala found the equalizer.Vincent Kompany needs to do better with rotationVincent Kompany started Mathys Tel after almost never playing him and had to call on Thomas Müller after not giving him any real game time ever since the defeat against Barcelona considering that he is essentially a fill in for two players (Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane). This led to rusty players — Müller got into very good positions (which Harry Kane did not find himself in in his 33 minutes) but could not finish. He started off the season quite sharp and has lost that sharpness now. Tel grew into the game but it took time. He has to make better use of his squad. It would have come in handy today.Bayern has a Harry Kane problemHarry Kane came off injured today but Bayern really needs to figure out how to fit Kane into the team; he is an extraordinary striker and has scored plenty of goals for Bayern but he needs to be in positions Robert Lewandowski would occupy. Thomas Müller found himself in those positions at times but his rustiness told. Kane needs to find himself in those positions. Overall, the team can do with a bit of urgency in possession and a bit more risk when it comes to passes in the final third.BVB exposed the weaknesses of the Bayern backlineAll it took was pace and and decent finishing from Jamie Gittens for Bayern to concede. There were more situations in which Kim Min-jae got caught out; the goal came from lack of communication between Konrad Laimer and Minjae. There were more dangerous situations and Marcel Sabitzer could have easily doubled BVB’s lead. This was the first decent attack Bayern faced since the Eintracht Frankfurt game in the Bundesliga; they conceded a goal. This defense still buckles under pressure. They are trending in the right direction but today was an example of how the defense is still not quite ready for the biggest of games. The Bundesliga title race is back on.....as long as Frankfurt and Leverkusen keep it upThe Bundesliga race looked dead as Bayern kept seven clean sheets in a row and beat the likes of Sankt Pauli and Augsburg. However, if Frankfurt wins tomorrow, the gap at the top will be down to four points; Leverkusen is seven points behind. The title race might be back on but Frankfurt and Leverkusen have to keep winning.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s Der Klassiker showdown vs. Borussia Dortmund? 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Covering all bases here Despite the recent report of Alphonso Davies suddenly open to extending his Bayern Munich contract, the club is still shortlisting players in the likely event that the Canadian signs for another club (read: Real Madrid). One of those targets is David Raum:Leipzig left-back David Raum (26) is one of the names being considered by Bayern to replace Alphonso Davies, should the latter leave the club next summer. The German international can well imagine a move to Munich. Max Eberl has a good relationship with Raum from their time together in Leipzig. It remains to be seen whether the implementation of the transfer would be possible due to the tense relationship between Oliver Mintzlaff and Max Eberl. Raum is not the only name, but one of the candidates for the position.– Sport Bild journos Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaNot too long ago, Raum was asked during a live stream on whether he would consider a Bayern move or not. This might end up coming to fruition.

FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Vincent Kompany’s sports a smirk following Bayern Munich 1-0 Champions League triumph against PSG at the Allianz Arena on November 26, 2024. | Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Don’t fix what’s not broken? Who knew getting demolished 4-1 by Barcelona was what Bayern Munich needed to galvanise their squad and launch an impressive run of form across the Bundesliga and Champions League? In an interview with ransport’s Martin Volkmar, Bayern head coach, Vincent Kompany, explained that it wasn’t the result that made the difference, it was his side’s response (via @iMisSanMia). “Everything always has to get better. You’re talking about 17-0 now, but it started at some point with four goals conceded in Barcelona and we stayed calm in that moment and just worked. And that’s what we’re going to do now. We won’t do anything differently now than we did after the Barcelona game, where we always knew: we have talent, we have good players, but we have to work,” Kompany said. Credit has to be given to Vincent Kompany, his coaching staff and the players. A 4-1 loss often feels like the end of the world for Bayern Munich. Considering the big loss and ongoing question marks over the team’s defence, Kompany was sure to be feeling the pressure, however, the Belgian coach and his players did extremely well to remain calm, trust their style of football and steady the ship. The results speak for themselves.Bayern fans will be hoping their side can maintain their strong run of form and avoid any large defeats in the future, although, who knows, it may just be what they need to kick back into gear. FC Bayern München v TSG Hoffenheim - Bundesliga Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images It would simply be negligent for Bayern not to try... Tom Bischof has been hailed as one of Germany’s top young talents for many years now, with the TSG Hoffenheim youngster admired for his incredible technique and passing ability. Of course, as with any talented German youngster, Bayern Munich kept tabs on the player and tried multiple times acquiring his services for their youth teams. Now, it might be possible. Despite having finally broken into Hoffenheim’s starting lineup this season (or perhaps because of it), Bischof has yet to renew his contract, which runs until 2025. And Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern may decide now is the time for an opportunistic swoop:FC Bayern are closely monitoring Tom Bischof’s situation. Bayern have already inquired about the 19 y/o top talent from TSG Hoffenheim as they are interested in signing him next summer. Hoffenheim want to extend his contract beyond 2025 to avoid losing him on a free transfer. In addition to Bayern, [Ballsport] Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are particularly interested in the talented midfielder. That list of competitors would not make signing the talented youngster for Bayern, especially considering Leipzig and Frankfurt’s reputation for developing talented young players versus the Bavarians’ slightly less spotless reputation in that regard. But if Hoffenheim’s #7 does decide to leave, it may prove to be too good of an opportunity to pass up for the Bundesliga giants.Looking for an extended breakdown of Bayern Munich’s DFB-Pokal showdown with Bayer Leverkusen? Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images Der Klassiker saw both teams get away with a point Thanks to a late equalizer through a Jamal Musiala header, Bayern Munich stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the season’s first edition of Der Klassiker. Speaking post-game, Musiala discussed the team’s performance and what led to the Bayern goal.“We knew the first half we didn’t play as we wanted. We came well into the second half, created chances and showed mentality. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for a win today, but getting a point was important. Now we look ahead to the game against Leverkusen. It’ll be an important game and we have to be fresh and there for 90 minutes,” said Musiala post-game (via @iMiaSanMia). Musiala is right about the slow start to the game in the first half, which saw Dortmund take the lead, but Bayern eventually found their balance, culminating in a Musiala header to win Bayern the point. Bayern remain unbeaten in the league thus far — the next test comes against reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal midweek. “It was a good cross [by Olise], I took it well towards the bottom corner. I always try to be in the box for such situations. I’m even more proud of this goal than the one I scored with the national team because it was the correct technique. I’m very happy,” Musiala noted. What did you think about the game? Is Musiala right about the team’s mentality? Tell us in the comments below! Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Jürgen Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Der Klassiker delivered on its promise of an intense and thrilling battle between the two German giants. Bundesliga table leader Bayern Munich’s draw against fifth placed Borussia Dortmund was an adrenaline filled fest from start to finish. It was a battle of tenacious tackles, intense pressure and sudden attacks in a tumultuous Signal Iduna Park. With 10 blocked shots, 26 tackles won and 41 clearances made, it was game of the defense constantly overpowering attacking forays. While the game ended with a seemingly low scoreline, the intensity and emotions were stratospheric. It was a cinematic football fest between the two biggest German clubs under two of the youngest managers in 38-year-old Vincent Kompany for Bayern and 36-year-old Nuri Sahin for Dortmund. Jersey Swap: Nico Schlotterbeck Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Gottschalk/DeFodi Images via Getty Images The Borussia Dortmund captain was a true leader on the pitch and his performance reflected the initiative on show from his end. After sitting under intense pressure from the visitors for 26 minutes, Schlotterbeck sensed the one weak link in the Bayern backline – Konrad Laimer’s pace against the wily Jamie Gittens. Schlotterbeck then went on to make a laser guided through pass to Gittens, slicing past the entire Bayern midfield and backline in one go. Gittens struck gold with the half chance available, racing past Laimer and finding the corner of the net beating Manuel Neuer in the process. With two chances created and picking up an assist, his incredible vision was a keystone in Dortmund’s counter attacking play. Topping off his attacking contributions Nico held the Bayern attack at bay and along with his men frustrated the visitors to no end. Der Kaiser: Dayot Upamecano Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Stuart Franklin/Getty Images Perhaps the least likely award on paper, but Upa earned his money when it mattered. Serhou Guirassy is one pacey player, but today he mostly ran into the pockets of Dayot Upamecano. Upa’s marking of the Dortmund striker was akin to gum stuck to a shoe and the Frenchman’s relentless pressure threw a spanner in the works of the homeside’s attack. Fußballgott: Joshua Kimmich Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Rene Nijhuis/MB Media/Getty Images In the mad chaos of the 90 minutes and 22 men, Kimmich’s calm was key to Bayern coming back from behind. The pass-master helmed his team’s movements on the frontfoot as well as on the backfoot to quickly regain possession anytime Dortmund stole the ball. With a 91 percent passing rate, six accurate long balls and 10 passes into the final third, Kimmich could not have done better tonight, playing from his personal favourite No. 6 position. Der Bomber: Leroy SaneThe fact that Bayern had an xG of 1.46 whereas Dortmund had a paltry 0.27 speaks volumes of the 1-1 scoreline. BVB’s Jamie Gittens turned a 12 percent chance into a goal that completely turned the game on its head. The Bayern attackers on the other end were frustratingly poor in their end product. Leroy Sane’s late game antics drew a lot of attention from the homeside that eventually won him the free-kick. Bayern capitalised the late opportunity to score an equaliser to take a point home. It was far from his best performance, but, it gave Bayern an off chance on a very important night and these hard fought points can go a long way towards the end of the season.Meister of the Match: Jamal Musiala BundesligaBorussia Dortmund - FC Bayern Munchen Photo by ANP via Getty Images Another headed goal for the young German. The kid was a lonestar for Bayern tonight. His dribbles often turned into fizzled out attacks due to an incredibly tight Dortmund unit that shutdown his teammates. Creating four chances and having six dribbles past a menacing Dortmund side, Musiala was the core of the Bayern attack. He got his opportunity…

Borussia Dortmund v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga The player seemed to be in discomfort as he was substituted early. | Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images Thomas Müller replaces the striker. This could have huge implications for the game. Bayern Munich may be in a tough spot in the midst of a tough stretch of games as Harry Kane was substituted early in the game following what seemed like discomfort. Thomas Müller replaced the striker in the 33rd minute in Der Klassiker. So far, Borussia Dortmund has been the more effective squad in a game that neither team has taken firm control of. For all intents and purposes, Bayern Munich is playing without an out-and-out striker on the pitch in what can be described as a more spread-out attack. The Bavarians are currently down 1-0 in what looks like a rather uninspired performance so far in the first half. With the second half still to play, the attack needs to conjure up something to make this a proper duel. Here’s to hoping this is nothing serious and that Kane would be able to feature against Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-Pokal Round of 16. Kane’s loss could be something that does have adverse effects on the upcoming slate of games.
