Fussball: 1. BL 03/04, Hannover 96 - FC Bayern Muenchen 3:3 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Bongarts/Getty Images He is not wrong. For the vast majority of footballers, little has changed. The amount of league games tend to remain the same over the years and cup competitions stay consistent. But for players at the top level of the sport, things are quite a bit different. The added matches in the Champions League, the recently introduced UEFA Nations League and the new FIFA Club World Cup are just the tip of the iceberg. The decision makers in football have been introducing more games for professionals to play every year, one that footballers are standing to take a stand against. And former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness believes they are right to do so, saying football may well decline if this schedule is maintained: “Our sport won’t be doing well for much longer,” Hoeness assessed, via @iMiaSanMia. “Human performance is finite. And if things continue like this, the players will eventually simply not be able to cope anymore. The pressure must come from us, the clubs, and the players. That is why I understand that the first players are starting to ignore national team call-ups for fear of injury.”This stands in interesting contrast to colleague Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who suggests that the push for more games results from player’s desire for higher wages.

FC Bayern München Rottach-Egern Training Camp Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Well, it happened again... Uli Hoeneß’s recent declaration of ‘I can promise the league title’- spoken to a finance forum, for some reason- was yet another in a line of rather controversial quotes from the former Bayern Munich president. But at this point, the players and the club are used to these quotes. Manuel Neuer is his first to give his opinion on this quote: “He’s not on the pitch. But he’s said things like that in the past,” Neuer explains, via @iMiaSanMia. “We have to make sure it happens. But it’s a difficult, rocky road. And we players are not talking about that.” Joshua Kimmich weighs in his own thoughts: “I heard it earlier. Generally speaking, we’re of course very happy that Mr. Hoeneß has big confidence in the team. We will try to get the points so that he’s happy.”Finally, board member for sport Max Eberl takes a more measured approach to Hoeneß dream”: “I would have liked it to be certain, but it’s not certain. We have to win every game and have to get the victories so that we can then realize Uli’s wish and dream - by the way, that’s not just Uli’s dream, it’s a dream for all of us to become champions. Uli is on the supervisory board, Uli made this club great, he can now sit back and put pressure on us to be successful. That’s what we work for every day and we must do everything we can to make his wish come true.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images The first year head coach has navigated the club through choppy waters already and is starting to look like a revelation. A bad streak. Every club has one of those — just ask Pep Guardiola — and Bayern Munich is no different. FIrst-year head coach Vincent Kompany endured a rough stretch earlier this fall that culminated in a blowout defeat to former Bayern coach Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona. But the Bayern bosses — at least publicly — have never wavered in their support for Kompany.“We are incredibly happy with our coach Vincent Kompany,” said Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer last month in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Starting with [executive board member for sport] Max Eberl, through the board, to Uli [Hoeneß] and Karl-Heinz [Rummenigge], because we are witnessing extremely attractive football. We haven’t seen that at Bayern for years.”Years? That would be quite the shot fired at Kompany’s predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, and perhaps even Julian Nagelsmann, whom Bayern dismissed in March of 2022 — and who is now leading the German men’s national team renaissance.Hainer said this in the wake of a disappointing 3-3 draw vs. Eintracht Frankfurt, and has only been vindicated by the results since.“If you watched the match on Sunday in Frankfurt, it was football characterized by dominance and control not seen for a long time. Yes, unfortunately, we didn’t win, but that will come. Vincent brought new impulses to the team. There’s joy and fun in training. That’s how we envisioned it and how we wanted it,” Hainer added.Since that night at Barça, the Bavarians have enjoyed seven clean sheets and seven wins on the bounce. That’s more than lucky — Kompany is fully justifying the faith shown in him.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? FBL-GER-CUP-MAINZ-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by KIRILL KUDRYAVTSEV/AFP via Getty Images The poor guy’s luck does not get any better... Gabriel Vidovic’s loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05 has, so far, been quite disappointing. The Bayern Munich loanee has collected just 48 minutes in nine games in all competitions and has failed to make the match day squad six out of nine times. But, apparently, things can always get worse. Mainz recently announced that Vidović had sustained an ankle injury via their official twitter handle: ... [Gabriel Vidović] injured himself during the international break with Croatia’s U21 team. We expect a break of several weeks - the exact duration depends on the healing process. Get well soon, Gabi! The injury required surgery, which was undertaken on Thursday, November 28. Fortunately, it was a success. But the future remains cloudy for the former Vitesse Arnheim loanee. Asked in the pre-match press conference, Mainz head coach Bo Henrikson...actually just completely ignored the inquiry to Vidović’s health. When asked again, however, the reporters eventually squeezed out of Henrikson that the club expects the 20-year-old to be out for 10 weeks. This is a massive shame for the talented youngster, who was priced out of a permanent move to Dinamo Zagreb (could have been playing Champions League) last summer and impressed Vincent Kompany in pre-season, only to suffer such a series of setbacks.

GNK Dinamo v Borussia Dortmund - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Jurij Kodrun - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images BVB has a stern test at home this weekend vs. Bayern Munich. Borussia Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin might be in his first season leading the team, but he is no stranger to this rivalry.“Dortmund against Bayern is the biggest game in Germany. It’s the most watched game. When I was in Türkiye in the past few years everyone there watched the game as far as the Bundesliga is concerned. It’s a privilege for me to be able to experience it in this role. I had good and bad experiences as a player against Bayern. I’m looking forward to it,” said Sahin (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The results are there (for Bayern Munich), the way they play football. You can see that he’s quickly having his influence on the team and that they’re a unit on the pitch. He did very good things in Anderlecht and Burnley and he’s now continuing on the same path. He’s a very good coach and was also a leader as a player. I’m happy for him.”Sahin was among those who heard Uli Hoeneß “promise” that Bayern Munich would win the Bundesliga. That statement of grandeur does not affect Sahin, though. “To be honest, I don’t need any statements made by other people to motivate my players. Our motivation comes from within. We have our ambitions that unfortunately we couldn’t always fulfill in the Bundesliga so far. I have big respect for Uli Hoeneß - I know how this game works with all the statements. I don’t want to be involved in that. It’s only to create headlines. My only focus is on winning tomorrow’s game, I don’t need any statements as motivation for that,” said Sahin. One of the key showdowns in the match will be between the strikers — Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy. Sahin like his player as much as he respects Kane. “Serhou is one of the best strikers around at the moment. I’m very happy he’s our striker. It’s not my job to compare Guirassy and Kane, but I wouldn’t swap Serhou for any other player in the world. That doesn’t mean Harry Kane has less quality. I’m a big fan of him,” said Sahin. Does the Bundesliga need Borussia Dortmund to take down Bayern Munich this weekend? What should we be thankful for with Bayern so far this season? Is Bayern going to let Leroy Sané walkaway this summer? Let’s discuss all of that and more on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show on Patreon, Spotify, or below:

FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images At this rate, will anybody be able to catch Bayern Munich? In November, Bayern Munich expanded its lead at the top table, led by Harry Kane’s 14 goals. The middle of the table is tighter than ever, where the difference between third and twelfth is a mere six points. The bigger clubs have wriggled to the upper parts of the table, but the staying power is tenuous at best. This series will recap each team’s performance and rank the Bundesliga teams on a monthly basis. The ranking system is based on the quality of performances, opponents, and recent matches.1) Bayern MunichPrevious Ranking: 1Bundesliga Results: WWWWWBayern has been one of Europe’s hottest teams over the past month, winning five consecutive Bundesliga matches with 16 goals and five clean sheets. The rest of the league has stumbled but Bayern has simply improved. It will take a special effort to hand Vincent Kompany his first Bundesliga loss.2) Eintracht FrankfurtPrevious Ranking: 5Bundesliga Results: LDWWWFrankfurt has soared up the table with the team’s potent attack, led by Omar Marmoush’s 11 Bundesliga goals are second only to Harry Kane. Besides a pair of matchups against RB Leipzig, Frankfurt is licking its chops ahead of a favorable holiday schedule.3) Bayer LeverkusenPrevious Ranking: 3Bundesliga Results: WDDDWDespite only losing one Bundesliga match this season, Xabi Alonso’s squad has failed to find the late game magic that headlined their title campaign. This squad has plenty of time and talent to catch fire and wreck the rest of the league, but it needs to do a better job keeping pace with Bayern.4) Borussia MönchengladbachPrevious Ranking: 10Bundesliga Results: WDWDWAfter a dreadful start to the season, Gladbach has found its mojo. Wins over Heidenheim, Werder Bremen, and St. Pauli won’t impress the average fan, but Gladbach’s gritty performances against RB Leipzig and Frankfurt tell a different story. 5) Borussia DortmundPrevious Ranking: 9Bundesliga Results: WLWLWDortmund’s season has been defined by the inability to produce the same result in consecutive matches. How can wins against RB Leipzig and Freiburg bookend a horrific loss to Mainz? Nuri Şahin needs to establish some consistency if he wants to keep his job or even qualify for the Champions League next season.6) RB LeipzigPrevious Ranking: 2Bundesliga Results: WWLDLAfter a hot start to the season that saw Leipzig claim six clean sheets in the first seven matchdays, Leipzig has conceded goals and points in three of the last four Bundesliga games. Leipzig are still third in the table, but the downward trend needs to be reversed quickly as the race for Champions League spots remains narrow.7) MainzPrevious Ranking: 13Bundesliga Results: LDDWWMainz’s season has been the epitome of average but have found seven points in the last three matches. The win against Dortmund was particularly juicy as they took full advantage of playing up a man for the final 63 minutes. Bo Henriksen has Mainz trending in the right direction but will be tasked with finding new ways to score with a limited roster.8) WolfsburgPrevious Ranking: 15Bundesliga Results: LDDWWWolfsburg’s front loaded schedule shoved them down the table after losses to Bayern, Frankfurt, and Leverkusen. Since their schedule softened up a bit, Wolfsburg is on a five-game undefeated streak and is catching Leipzig at a vulnerable time.9) Werder BremenPrevious Ranking: 7Bundesliga Results: WDLWL Bremen hasn’t shied away from the bigger German clubs but the high risk, high reward hasn’t paid off yet. Despite being 12th in the table, Bremen is only two points behind 6th-placed Gladbach.10) Union BerlinPrevious Ranking: 4Bundesliga Results: WDLDL Union Berlin’s fierce defensive approach has been effective this season, but only St. Pauli has scored less goals this season. The recent gauntlet continues against Leverkusen and Stuttgart before Union Berlin gets a chance to earn some wins.11) FreiburgPrevious Ranking:…

Real Madrid v FC Bayern München: Semi-final Second Leg - UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Photo by Alberto Gardin/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images You just can’t escape Red Bull, can you? ...Except in the Champions League. Who knew Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting would stay at Bayern Munich for four years? Certainly, when the former Schalke 04 player was part of some last minute signings in the 2020 summer transfer window, nobody would have expected him to stay for so long, let alone become the actual starting striker for the team, let alone score 17 goals in the 2022/202 season. Despite the former Paris Saint Germain striker’s absurd form, however, Choupo-Moting was finally let go in the past summer to find pastures anew.Though it has taken a while, the former Stoke City player has found those new pastures...at Red Bull, according to Florian Plettenberg: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will join New York Red Bulls [in the MLS]. Medical done. All agreed and signed. 35 y/o striker will join the New York Red Bulls as a free agent. It will be at least a two-year contract, starting in January 2025.At 35, America may be a good landing spot for Choupo-Moting. But at Red Bull? FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Can Bayern Munich get the job done? Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany knows a thing or two about experiencing a big game atmosphere. However, the Belgian has never manned a Bayern Munich visit to see The Yellow Wall. With his team streaking (in a good way), Kompany feels good about where things stand entering the match. “The last results were good, we deserved that. But we want to win and perform well tomorrow. This is a classic. I like that games like this get the build-up they deserve leading to them. It’s going to be a tough game,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The fans in Dortmund have always played a role. We have a lot of experience in the team, they are used to it. The focus is on what happens on the pitch. Preparation is important and then we want to go onto the pitch with confidence. It’s a nice task to play such an away game.“When we face a team, we always prepare for the best version of them. When they are at their best, they press very high. They are also dangerous on the counterattack. They have a lot of quality and pace on the wings. When they are at their best, they are also very, very good at building up the play. It’s not going to be an easy game, it’ll be tough.”The intensity surrounding the game might have been heightened by the recent statements by Uli Hoeneß, where he essentially guaranteed a league title. Kompany said that the Bayern Munich legend’s statements can standalone and do not necessarily need to be endorsed by anyone. “Uli Hoeneß can say what he wants. After a statement, you always come running very quickly. I have big respect for someone like Uli Hoeneß, who has done so much for this club. But then there’s also our perspective. It’s been the biggest game in German football in recent years. That is respect. We are looking forward to playing this game. It’s a special game,” said Kompany. When asked about his team’s shutout streak, Kompany tried to hide his happiness about the situation, but his fondness for his defensive unit was able to shine through anyway. “If you look at the big picture, it’s important for us not to look too much at how others see our players. Sometimes they see them as the worst, sometimes as the best. Sometimes as best and worst on the same day. It’s how we see them that’s important. The fact that they’ve now reached their best level is like a journey. But that’s not just down to the defenders themselves, it’s down to the overall structure of the team. We said before the season that we could do it,” said Kompany. Does the Bundesliga need Borussia Dortmund to take down Bayern Munich this weekend? What should we be thankful for with Bayern so far this season? Is Bayern going to let Leroy Sané walkaway this summer? FC Union Berlin - Bundesliga Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Weighing out the options here Mathys Tel has endeared Bayern Munich fans with his impressive mentality at such a young age, demonstrating his commitment to breaking into the starting XI. At the age of 19, playing time is essential for his development and if he doesn’t get that in Munich, he might consider loan opportunities in Germany and abroad:RB Leipzig, Werder Bremen and Villarreal are showing concrete interest in signing Mathys Tel on loan in January and have already enquired about the player and his situation in Munich. Bayern are open to sending Tel out on loan for 6 months. Since his move to Bayern in 2022, Tel has never considered going out on loan and he still wants to stay and establish himself at the club. But now it could be a sensible decision for the Frenchman to finally get more match practice on loan.– Foot Mercato journo Sébastien Denis via Fussball Transfer Redaktion as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaMathys Tel would prefer to stay at FC Bayern and fight for his spot. However, if his situation does not improve in the next few weeks, a loan move in January could become an option, as regular match practice is essential at his age. In addition to Stuttgart, there’s interest from English and Spanish clubs.– Tz journo Philipp Kessler via @iMiaSanMiaA lot of people love Tel and would be behind him to succeed in his career, but it has come to a point where minutes might be offered by a different club at this stage.

FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images The Bavarians have been on a hot streak, with a 1-0 win over PSG the latest feather in Kompany’s cap. Bayern Munich has ripped off seven wins and seven clean sheets in a row since a Champions League calamity at Barcelona. The resurgence has fans wondering: just what has been in head coach Vincent Kompany’s secret sauce to spur this turnaround? Kasper Schmeichel put just that question to Kompany in his post-game interview for CBS Sports — after Kompany’s Bayern took apart Paris Saint-Germain in a sound 1-0 victory that, if anything, could have been more lopsided.Watch the interview — as captured by @iMiaSanMia — below:Vincent Kompany on last night's win and what he changed since the defeat against Barcelona

pic.twitter.com/f7gPwUAXqp— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 27, 2024Was it the famous high line pulled slightly back? Not according to Kompany, who cited the pressing job Bayern managed — but also stressed individual quality.“It’s the choose-your-moments, I think that’s always important,” Kompany noted. The Bayern head man also suggested that Barça, perhaps, was the aberration rather than the trend, noting that Bayern had also kept a clean sheet the match before that — a 4-0 win over VfB Stuttgart. If there were changes since Barcelona, they were minor, he said. “Tweaks.”But what sort of tweaks?“Just individual positioning, individual habits…a similar idea as every other team,” Kompany explained. “We want to be compact, we want the distance between the lines to be small. If we force them down the side we want the opposite side to be really narrow to the ball to give us the overload around the ball. So those principles remain, but for whatever reason, sometimes you play against a better team. We got beat and we learn from that game.”As for navigating the new Champions League format...“I try to not overthink it,” Kompany said, doing some math before concluding: “But with Bayern it’s always quite easy, you have to win every game. So focusing on the next game is enough as well.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? Müller ready for Bayern vs. Dortmund showdown (Bundesliga.com)Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller has been through his fair share of battles with Borussia Dortmund and while the veteran is not likely to play a major role in today’s match, he can still appreciate the rivalry.“I don’t think it’s necessarily because of the game itself, but also because the two sets of fans are especially passionate. The rivalry has a long history, with both teams always competing for titles. For that reason, Dortmund have always been my biggest German rival,” Müller told Bundesliga.com. The Bavarians are the favorites on the road, but BVB is highly motivated and that should make this a very interesting match-up. Instead of fearing the difficult opponents, be the invincible opponent. Manuel Neuer is always a confident man, with his lofty reputation alone to inspire grudging respect and wariness in opponents. But it helps when he and the team are well and truly in form, as well. Spoken before Bayern Munich’s tough gauntlet of back-to-back-to-back games against Paris Saint Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, Neuer radiated confidence at the team’s state of play:“I don’t think any of the three teams are looking forward to playing us. We feel comfortable on the pitch. We feel comfortable with what’s being asked of us.”Of course, it is difficult to speak about good form about the moment without mentioning the six consecutive clean sheets the team had racked up: “We’ve had clean sheets before, but things are going very well at the moment,” Neuer explained, via @iMiaSanMia. “We’re trying to win the ball back in a few seconds and go forward because the opponent might not be organised yet at the back. All parts of the team are helping with that and that’s very good for our game.”Having won a hard fought game in the Champions League against the Parisians, extending the run of clean sheets, it looks like business as usual for the Bavarian giants. Not so fast my friend...maybe.During his pregame press conference ahead of Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund for Der Klassiker, Vincent Kompany offered this update (via @iMiaSanMia): “All players who were available against Paris will also be available tomorrow. (Pavlović is) doing well. If he has a good training week next week, he might be back for the game against Heidenheim.”The Heidenheim match is next Saturday, December 7th, which seems...really quick (and maybe a little unnecessary). Could we really see the phenom back patrolling the central midfield? We will not have to wait long to find out. Does the Bundesliga need Borussia Dortmund to take down Bayern Munich this weekend? What should we be thankful for with Bayern so far this season? Is Bayern going to let Leroy Sané walkaway this summer? TOPSHOT-FBL-EUR-C1-BAYERN MUNICH-PSG Photo by FRANCK FIFE/AFP via Getty Images Can Bayern make it eight from eight against Die Schwarzgelben? Bayern Munich continue to march on as they continue to their rich vein of form as they travel to North-Rhine Westphalia to take on Borussia Dortmund in this season’s first edition of Der Klassiker. The Bavarians would normally go into this matchup as heavy favorites to win but that has changed in recent memory as this is a rather unpredictable Dortmund side.Team NewsTwitter account @iMiaSanMia listed out everyone who can’t play and those who might not play which you can see here:Out of tomorrow's game:
Dortmund:
• Emre Can
• Karim Adeyemi
• Filippo Mané
❔ doubtful: Julian Brandt
Bayern:
• Sven Ulreich
• Hiroki Itō
• Josip Stanišić
• Aleksandar Pavlović
• João Palhinha #BVBFCB— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 29, 2024This gives us a good idea as to how Vincent Kompany can field his players, but he’s most likely going to field the same lineup he trotted out against Paris Saint-Germain. Harry Kane will lead the front row supported by Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olisé behind him; Kingsley Coman should not touch the field as he is in the middle of a rut. Joshua Kimmich and Leon “We still want to offload him” Goretzka will be the midfield duo, and a back-line of Alphonso “I don’t know where I’ll go in summer 2025, but it’s probably Real Madrid” Davies, the newfound solid defensive partnership of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, and Raphaël Guerreiro starting in front of Manuel Neuer, who completed more dribbles than PSG’s wingers the whole game. Media Meanwhile, Tz released their predicted lineups for both teams:Expected lineups for tomorrow [@tzmuenchen] pic.twitter.com/wWxZcrtbbb— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 29, 2024What do you think is the most likely lineup that Kompany will use? Training FC Bavaria Photo by Matthias Balk/picture alliance via Getty Images Well, it looks like Alphonso Davies will be available for Bayern Munich vs. BVB. According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau, Bayern Munich will not punish left-back Alphonso Davies ahead of the team’s showdown with Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Saturday: FC Bayern has decided not to impose sanctions or disciplinary measures against Alphonso Davies. The Canadian - caught by police in the Munich city centre with a blood alcohol level of 0.6 on Thursday night - also attended the final training session before #BVBFCB and travelled to Dortmund with the team. @SkySportDEAs indicated by Hau, Davies was present at the final session and — as far as Bayern Munich is concerned — there is nothing to see here.
