Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Salzburg - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images 2025 could be wild for Bayern Munich... Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies and Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz will be two of the biggest names bandied about in the transfer market during the summer transfer window. Unfortunately for Bayern Munich, Real Madrid might be closing in on laying the groundwork to land both of them per The Athletic. The Davies situation has always revolved around Real Madrid, despite the late rush of interest from FC Barcelona and Manchester United in recent weeks. Now, though, we are just weeks away from Real Madrid formally being able to get something done and — after a cold spell — Real Madrid could be ready to heat things back up per The Athletic (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): Last summer, Real Madrid had reached a verbal understanding with Alphonso Davies’ agents on what would be the terms of his signing for 2024 or 2025, as a free agent and with a signing bonus. Since then, the situation has cooled, but recently the Spanish club has moved closer. The player has a lot of other suitors, too.Davies, whose career trajectory had plateaued under Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel has experience a massive resurgence un Vincent Kompany. Now, the €14 million to €16 million salary that Davies was rumored to be seeking does not seem all that outrageous. Will Bayern Munich cave on their stringent financial objectives to re-up the Canadian or will they let him a walk away for free?Similarly, Real Madrid is very interested in Wirtz, but a deal for him might be unattainable if Leverkusen holds out for a nine-figure transfer fee (which is fully expected) per The Athletic. In this case, though, it does appear as if Bayern Munich is ready to buck up for a big salary and a massive transfer fee: Florian Wirtz is very much liked by Real Madrid, but the deal seems unfeasible for them because Bayer Leverkusen want more than €100million.Amid all of this, one thing is clear — Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will be butting heads over a couple of very key players, who could influence the future for both teams. What do you think will happen?Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 4, Episode 20Bayern Munich is in the midst of the tough stretch before the Winterpause, but the squad is riding high and playing extremely well under Vincent Kompany. That said, there are quite a few hit discussions topics surrounding the team at the moment, so we are going to tackle those and some other fun things on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. This is what we have on tap: In the spirit of the holiday (at least for those of us in the United States), let’s talk about what we’re thankful for with Bayern Munich so far this season. Does the greater Bundesliga need Borussia Dortmund to win this weekend to save the league title race?Let’s talk about the latest Leroy Sané rumor and what that might mean for the team moving forward. Song of the Week: “Mother” by DanzigOriginally released in 1988, this song gained popularity over the years and (almost) made into the mainstream (which might have infuriated Glenn Danzig). It was remix and remastered a few different times, but no matter which version you listen to, they are all terrific. Start your Friday off with the hard sounds of Danzig: If you wanted to check out “Mother ‘93”, here you go: Entertainment RundownI have not dove into anything as of yet, but I do have a couple of things on my agenda: Deadpool & Wolverine and Cobra Kai’s season six, part two. Once I get those going...Bayern open to loaning youngsters in JanuaryBayern Munich youngsters like Mathys Tel and Arijon Ibrahimović might not want to get too comfortable. With limited minutes available, sporting director Christoph Freund seems open to loaning players like that out in January. “We’re speaking to the players and also discussing things with the coaching staff because it’s important to us that the boys make good development…

Bayern Munich go into the weekend’s clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, a clash the Bundesliga has tried to push the name “Der Klassiker” on as a marketing gimmick, in strong form. Having won all of the last 7 matches in all competitions, the Bavarian giants might seem set to invade the Signal Iduna Park and leave with all three points. Yet Bayern are not the only side with a strong record. Incredibly, despite some poor away form, Borussia Dortmund have a 100% winning record across eight games at home in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. And it seems that the confidence won from this run has upped the confidence of Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund’s managing director. In a fixture that has been privy to many bold comments- look no further than Uli Hoeness’ infamous response to Dortmund’s transfer business in 2022- this one is yet another to add to the list:“We in the sporting management are certain that it will be a great game. We will win it,” Ricken proclaimed, via @iMiaSanMia. “And we want to win it. We will do it together.”That is a confident statement. Now it is time for Dortmund to back this confidence up as Bayern roll into town.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? Bologna FC v LOSC Lille - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Photo by Giuseppe Maffia/NurPhoto via Getty Images Will the Canadian contingent be growing at Bayern Munich? It may depend on the future of another. Bayern Munich has reportedly been tracking a new striker in the next transfer window — Jonathan David. The interest in the LOSC Lille forward and Canadian international is apparently quite serious, but will Die Rekordmeister actually make a move for him?According to the report from Christian Falk (captured by @iMiaSanMia), that depends:Bayern are concretely interested in Jonathan David. Max Eberl thinks highly of the Canadian striker. But for that the club first has to find a solution for Mathys Tel. If the Frenchman leaves a loan, then Bayern could move for David — because it would be otherwise difficult to manage two players behind Harry Kane in the pecking order [@cfbayern via @caughtoffside]The 24-year-old David is a little bit more seasoned at this stage of his career than the 19-year-old Tel. But Bayern needs to find a way to distribute strikers among its pecking order, and both young talents would really need to see some playing time to reach their full potential. If Tel does leave on loan, it would leave an opening behind Harry Kane that David could fill. Would David be a good fit at Bayern? And if he does join, could fellow CanMNT star Alphonso Davies perhaps be the connection they need? Germany v Bosnia and Herzegovina - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images The 21 year-old has been a revelation for club and country. Bayern Munich and German national team wonderkid Jamal Musiala is growing into the big shoes he is destined to fill for club and country. The 21-year-old opened up about his growing role in the national side and his eagerness to take on greater responsibility. In a recent interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) Musiala said, “The EUROs were really good, for us as a team and also for me personally. We can take a lot for the remaining Nations League games and the 2026 World Cup. I have made big steps and taken on a bigger role at DFB.”At the EUROs, Musiala had started all five games for Die Mannschaft and scored three goals. Despite losing to eventual champions Spain, the DFB team had shown plenty of promise under Julian Nagelsmann’s. In the UEFA Nations League, Musiala has had five goal involvements in four games so far and has helped Germany reach the quarter-finals. Going up against Italy in that fixture, Musiala’s wizardry will be crucial to get past the Italian defence. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Ulrik Pedersen/NurPhoto via Getty Images Is Leon Goretzka in hs final weeks with Bayern Munich? Spurs an option for Goretzka? One pundit thinks so (TeamTalk)It has been rumored for months that Bayern Munich would like to sell off Leon Goretzka. Luckily for the Bavarians, that did not happen given the injuries to both Aleksandar Pavlović and João Palhinha. Goretzka is now playing a key role, but it does not change the fact the Bayern Munich front office still wants to sell him in January or next summer. If that happens, Lothar Matthäus think several clubs should be interested in Goretzka, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter Milan: Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka has been told to consider a move to Tottenham Hotspur amid Manchester United keeping tabs on his situation.Throughout most of his time at Bayern, Goretzka has generally been a mainstay in central midfield. However, the German had a frustrating start to the season as he was largely left on the bench by new manager Vincent Kompany. Things have improved for Goretzka of late, as he has completed a full 90 minutes in Bayern’s recent wins over Augsburg in the Bundesliga and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. But the player is still considering his options as he knows he faces tough competition for a starting spot from the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer, Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Pavlovic, when the latter pair are fit. Goretzka could put himself in a good position to secure a transfer in summer 2025 by refusing to sign a new contract, with his current deal due to expire in June 2026.Germany icon Lothar Matthaus has now mentioned Tottenham and Man Utd as being potential suitors for Goretzka. In an interview with Bild, Matthaus was asked to name the perfect club for the 29-year-old. “Inter Milan,” he replied. “The Italian league would be a good fit. Consistency is required there, toughness, physical play. I don’t necessarily see him at a top 5 club in Europe, but he can help all the other clubs. Inter, Man Utd, Tottenham, Atlético Madrid, he would fit in very well there.”It remains to be seen whether Spurs will take Matthaus’ advice on board and begin negotiations for Goretzka. But such a move would alert United.Goretzka’s recent appearances are allowing him the opportunity to sell himself. While he does not want to leave Bavaria, it does appear as if Max Eberl has fully moved on from him (at least mentally). Where do you think Goretzka would fit best?Alonso not ready to talk future (@Plettigoal)Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is rumored to be leaving the club this summer, but do not expect him to touch on the subject as his team is battling for its position in all three competitions that is alive in: ⚫️ Xabi #Alonso about his future:

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Sacha Boey closes in on injury return as he strikes the ball in Bayern Munich training at the Säbener Straße grounds in Munich. | Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images The Frenchman continues to work his way towards a return to first team football. After a promising start to the season under Bayern Munich coach, Vincent Kompany, Sacha Boey’s meniscus tear, suffered in mid-September, has since halted all progress for the French right-back.Despite the injury setback, the 24-year old has been back in team training since the beginning of November and is working hard towards a return to first team action. After nearly one year with Die Roten, Sport1 took the time to sit down with the Frenchman to get his impressions of Germany and Bayern (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I feel absolutely home in Munich. It took me a while to get used to things because I always analyse and question things a lot. I speak a lot with people and it’s easy to open up here. I’m getting better and better at using the language, which makes everyday life a lot easier for me. Overall, I’m very happy with how things are going - and I hope that things will continue to improve,” Boey said.Boey went on to share what has left the biggest impression on him during his tenure at Bayern.“What stands out most is the professionalism. Whether it’s during training, during games or even on away trips: everything is always well organized,” Boey said.Despite his short time with Bayern, Boey has already had to endure a change of head coach after Thomas Tuchel and the club decided to part ways. Bayern eventually chose Vincent Kompany to succeed the German coach. Regardless of Boey’s limited minutes under Tuchel, the right-back expressed a positive relationship with the current Three Lions coach and feels similarly about Kompany. “I had a very good relationship with him, he was a really good coach for me. Now we have a new coach in Vincent Kompany and things are going really well,” Boey remarked. It sounds like Boey has settled in nicely in Bayern and left an overall positive impression. Germany v Bosnia and Herzegovina - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Serge Gnabry is picking up useful lessons from two different generations of Bayern players. Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry stands between two generations: that of legendary players still at the club such as captain Manuel Neuer and vice-captain Thomas Müller, as well as the younger generation of stars such as Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise. According to @iMiaSanMia, Gnabry recently had the following question put to him: “At 29, you’re in the middle of your career, no longer quite young, but far from old. You stand right between players like Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise on the one hand and Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer on the other. What do you learn from these generations?”• At 29, you're in the middle of your career, no longer quite young, but far from old. Hungary v Germany - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Sebastian Frej/MB Media/Getty Images Germany is fearless heading into the business stage of the tournament. UEFA recently had their Nations League knockout stage draw. Germany drew Italy in the quarter-finals, the arguably worst possible scenario team out of Italy, Croatia, Denmark. Despite the tough draw, former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann is remaining optimistic. Germany appears ready to take on even the toughest opponents at the moment, and Nagelsmann is ready.Italy is an iconic opponent for Germany, with some notable wins and defeats for Germany over the years. Euro 2012 and 2016 immediately come to mind for incredible matches between the World Cup winners. Despite Italy’s historical greatness, they have lacked in strength since their EURO title in 2021.“I’m looking forward to it. Italy are a great opponent who, like us, has regained their old strength. Italy play very attacking, aggressive football. We’ll play against the best opponent we could’ve got. It’s good for our development that we’re competing against the best teams. If we make it to the final 4, it’ll be an exciting game against Denmark or Portugal,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Despite Italy’s struggles, the German coach went on to show respect for the Italian side and is excited to play another top opponent. If Germany advances, they will play the winner of Portugal and Croatia in the semifinals. Based on seeding, a Germany and Spain rematch of EURO 2024 in the Nations League final could be in the works. What a match that would be.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? FC Barcelona v FC Bayern Munchen - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD3 Photo by Gongora/NurPhoto via Getty Images Game always recognizes game. Robert Lewandowski is turning back the clock at FC Barcelona as he seems to have found the form that highlighted his peak Bayern Munich days. When asked about his time here, and more particularly about his teammate and friend Thomas Müller in an exclusive interview with Rio Ferdinand, Lewandowski was full of praise for his former teammate. “Thomas Müller is [a] very intelligent guy...on the pitch, he’s helped me a lot. [...] For me, Thomas Müller didn't have the best shooting, and he didn't have the technique but in the end, he had an impact on the game. He reads the game like nobody else in football. In my career for example he was always so positive...it doesn't matter how he scored the goal, but he scored the goal. It doesn't matter how he played the pass, but the pass was there.Lewandowski also briefly discussed how Müller would command the pitch in attack and help him press the opposition's defense and time his runs. He continued, “So you know, this is exactly Thomas Müller and I loved to play with him. He is the main [man] of this club, Bayern Munich — and I think this club is also the future for him.”Lewandowski’s unwavering respect for Müller and their deep understanding of each other’s games is exactly why the two formed an unbreakable duo that terrorized Europe for so many years. In fact, his statement closely resembles a famous Uli Hesse quote...What do you make of Lewandowski’s comments? Do you agree — will Müller stay at Bayern after he hangs up his boots? Again, this post is based off of a report from Bild and an extraction by RMC Sport amon other news outlets.Just when things were really starting to click for both Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies, the Canadian might be in some hot water. Bayern Munich has not yet commented. It was in the very centre of Munich that Alphonso Davies (24) had trouble with the police. Three days after Bayern Munich’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain (1-0), on the night of Thursday to Friday at around 2:15 am, the explosive left-back was arrested at the wheel of a black Lamborghini Urus by the police, Bild announced on Friday. It was while talking to the Canadian international that the police officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol. After taking him directly to the station to carry out an alcohol test, the Munich player was assessed at 0.6 g/l of blood (the legal limit being set at 0.5 for experienced drivers), specifies the German media, which constitutes an infraction and not an offense (the criminal sanction starts at 0.8 g/l).Zach Lowy broke it down as well: Alphonso Davies was pulled over at 2:15 a.m. today after driving drunk in his Lamborghini Urus.
Davies' blood alcohol content was 0.6, which will likely see him receive a fine of €500 and lose his driver's license for a month.https://t.co/oVbdVw2Ivi— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) November 29, 2024As a reminder, this is information is based on an initial report from Bild and nothing official has been released by Davies or Bayern Munich at this time. FSV Mainz 05 - 1. FC Heidenheim Photo by Thomas Frey/picture alliance via Getty Images Frank Schmidt’s record with Heidenheim is unbelievable Frank Schmidt is an unbelievably compelling character with a really interesting history with Bayern Munich. Growing up as a Bayern fan, he was part of a TSV Vestenbergsgreuth side, then in the Bavarian fifth tier, that came up against a version of Bayern with the likes of Oliver Kahn and Lothar Matthäus in the 1994/95 DFB Pokal. Yet the minnows somehow knocked the Bavarian giants out, with final 1-0 scoreline immortalized via a monument by Vestenbergsgreuth.Schmidt would initially come close to repeating the trick as a manager, managing FC Heidenheim to a thrilling 5-4 loss to Bayern in the 2018/19 edition of the DFB Pokal before getting one over the Bavarians again in the 2023/24 season with a 3-2 upset. Schmidt and Bayern’s story is not yet over, either, as Schmidt proved key to bringing star youngster Paul Wanner to Heidenheim over several other bigger clubs. Wanner sat down to explain the process: “I have to say, I had a very good feeling from the beginning. I think the decisive factor was when my mom, dad and I were here. Frank Schmidt gave me the feeling that everything was right and that it was exactly the right step for me,” Wanner said, via Sky Sports. “That’s why it didn’t take long for me to decide to move here.”So what is Schmidt like? What is his approach to helping players develop? “He wants and demands a lot from you, but he is very fair and honest in his work. He addresses the things that are going well, but also the things that are going badly. He always wants the players to develop under him. And that only works if you address things exactly as they are. And he does that very well. He has so much experience. He can help any player, especially a young one like me. That is extremely good for me.”Schmidt’s time at Heidenheim has been a model of consistency, which is a healthy contributing factor to the staggering 17 years he has been in charge of managing the club, at the time of writing. Wanner is certainly right when he says that Schmidt has the kind of incredibly extensive experience that any player could benefit from.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? What sticks out in his storied career is the last time the Allianz Arena hosted a Champions League final (certain fans deny the existence of this so-called final, records say that 2013 came after 2011).“I’m not a dreamer, but it’s of course appealing,” the 35-year-old revealed (BR24 as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I would also want to be in the Champions League final even if it wasn’t in Munich. What happened before the game [in 2012], what happened after the game - that was simply powerful, the way it moved people. I’m a fan of allowing a little bit of emotion, no matter which way it goes.” Bayern would go on to win all trophies in 2013, beating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League’s first all-German final and exacted revenge upon Chelsea FC in the Super Cup.If Bayern somehow make it all the way to the final and win, Müller could make history as part of the first team to win the UCL in their home ground. Only three times has a club reached the final on home soil, with the first being Roma in 1984, but no one has managed to win the trophy at home thus far.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? FC Bayern Munchen Unveil New Signing Harry Kane Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images It was certainly a crazy transfer. Am I the only one who sometimes pinches himself when he sees Harry Kane playing for Bayern? Bayern Munich’s signing of Harry Kane was truly a story for the ages. After many “they couldn’t go for Kane, could they?” reports, Bayern decided to really push to sign the captain of the England national team. It was an unprecedented saga that involved months of long negotiating with Tottenham Hotspur, near collapses, record sums, prickly comments and some reporter drama before the transfer finally happened.Jan-Christian Dreesen had been promoted to CEO of Bayern just before the transfer window kicked off, so one of his very first tasks in this new, daunting role was to lead negotiations for one of the best Premier League strikers of all time, a club legend, and a former Leyton Orient player with the notoriously hard headed Daniel Levy. No pressure, eh? Taking the time to talk about the transfer, Dreesen permitted himself a little chuckle at how difficult of an ordeal it was.“This transfer was an extremely tough nut to crack (laughs). We needed a lot of patience. But this signing was undoubtedly a big statement that we are still able to compete with the big Premier League clubs for the best players in the world. Bringing the captain of the English national team to Munich — that was extraordinary, definitely a highlight,” Dreesen confirmed, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “And Harry has fully fulfilled the hopes and expectations we had of him.”That he has. Though the former Arsenal FC youth player infamously failed to win a trophy in his first season, his incredible attacking contributions to the team remain utterly vital. No matter how difficult the transfer was and how expensive he ended up being, Kane has already proven that bring him in was an invaluable endeavor.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund? FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Yet another exciting talent that may not yet be ready for Bayern... Bayern Munich’s desire to refresh the winger position is rather evident. Aside from Michael Olise, who arrived in the past summer, all of Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané have been linked countless times with moves away from the club. But if one is to sell players, they need to be replaced, meaning Bayern have a shortlist of replacements. One of those candidates may be a winger from Swedish club Hammarby IF, if Florian Plettenberg, via @iMiaSanMia_GER, is to be believed:Bayern has Bazoumana Touré (18) from Hammarby on their list. However, internal sources say that the left winger is not ready for Bayern yet.Touré only just joined Hammarby in the spring of 2024 from Ivorian club ASEC Abidjan. Despite starting on the bench initially, he quickly worked his way into the lineup and impressed with his amazing physicality and searing pace. Still, a jump to Bayern would be a big one. Perhaps Bayern is right and the Ivorian is not ready...yet.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s massive 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League? Training FC Bayern Munich Photo by Tobias Hase/picture alliance via Getty Images He got the whole Bavarian experience. Lucky guy. Paul Wanner may be making waves out at FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga right now, but that talent was honed and developed right at Bayern Munich’s FC Bayern Campus from the age of 12. What was that process like? And who was the most important mentor at the Campus, guiding a shy child to stardom? “Alex Moj,” Wanner answers, via Sky Sports. “He was my coach for the U14s and then also for the U16s. He was one of the reasons why I moved to Bayern and he supported me very well over the years. I am still in contact with him today. He was the person who had the biggest influence on me during my time on campus.”But, less than four years after his arrival at the Campus, it was time for the youngster to make his debut, coming on against Borussia Mönchengladbach. What was that like? “I’ll never forget that. It happened so quickly and then suddenly you’re playing a professional game. It was a really great feeling. It makes me proud and happy when I look back on it.”Moj would no longer have the proximity to assist the U-21 Germany international, so who among the first team did take Wanner under their wing? “Jamal [Musiala] definitely, because he also came from the campus to the pros and knew the situation as a young player. Josh (Kimmich) also helped me and spoke to me after training sessions. Or Thomas Müller (laughs).”Perhaps sensing a typical Müller story, the interviewer asked why talking about the Bayern legend made him laugh: “Because he’s a cool guy. He likes to talk. And he helped me a lot. We’re still in touch from time to time.”How very typical of Müller. Another aspect that typifies Müller is his identification with Bayern, one arguably no other homegrown player has been able to match. Is that kind of connection, taking the same path Müller went, one Wanner wants as well? Wanner refuses to bite at the bait, though: “I’m not thinking about that yet. I’m at Heidenheim this season and that’s my focus. I want to develop further here, play as many games as possible with Heidenheim and then at the end of the season we’ll see how it goes.”The interviewer persists with his line of questioning, however, name dropping Bayer Leverkusen and Ballsport Leipzig as potential transfer candidates. Wanner’s answer is short and sweet: “You notice it every now and then, but on the whole I try to ignore it and just do my thing.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s visit to Borussia Dortmund?
