FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images A definite improvement in gameplay Bayern Munich has won their last six games in all competitions, getting a clean sheet every time and averaging almost three goals per game. The Bavarians are on the right track as Vincent Kompany oversees operations of the first team. One of his players, Joshua Kimmich, is liking the way he and his teammates play at present.“The way we’re playing football feels very, very good,” Kimmich said (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I had the feeling in the previous games that we defended better than in the past. Of course, we conceded three goals against Frankfurt and four against Barcelona. We were severely punished in Barcelona, and especially against Frankfurt. But it never felt like our defense was shaky or that we were on the wrong track. That’s why I’m really happy that we stayed calm and trusted the way we play. Now we’re being rewarded for it, but of course we can’t let up.”With a gauntlet of games next on the list for the Rekordmeister, Kimmich will have to continue doing his part if the team’s aim is to maintain a good run of results.

Soccer Teams Stock Market Illustrations Photo by Lorenzo Di Cola/NurPhoto via Getty Images According to a report from O Jogo (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich will have a presence in Portugal for Sporting CP’s Champions League match against Arsenal FC. It will not be Viktor Gyökeres or Kai Havertz on the agenda, though. Instead it will be Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincão:Bayern will send scouts to José Alvalade Stadium (Tuesday) for the game between Sporting and Arsenal. Sporting winger Francisco Trincão (24) will be one of the players watched. Asked about that today, the Portuguese player said: “I can’t control that and I can’t focus on it or think about it. I can only control tomorrow’s game and my preparation” Barcelona maintain a €20m buy-back clause for Trincão.In need of a refresh at the winger position, it would not be shocking to see Bayern Munich start to seriously explore a few players. FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Bayern Munich vs. PSG in the Champions League...are you ready? PSG not giving up on Kimmich pursuit (PSG Talk)When Paris Saint-Germain hits the new grass at the Allianz Arena later today, the players will be attempting to take down Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but the club’s front office and scouts could be taking a close look at Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich is believed to be a primary transfer target for Les Parisiens in the summer of 2025, when the midfielder will be a free agent: Paris Saint-Germain have been closely monitoring Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich in recent months, with reports from Germany suggesting a move nearly took place this past summer. As the January transfer window approaches, new developments have emerged regarding the potential move. The Ligue 1 side aren’t the only club targeting Kimmich, though. Barcelona have also expressed interest, along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, who are looking to strengthen both their midfield and defense ahead of 2025.Kimmich’s future at Bayern Munich has changed since Vincent Kompany became head coach. The versatile German midfielder, who can also play as a right-back, had seemed poised to leave when his contract expires next summer.Although Kimmich is still at Bayern, he hasn’t signed a contract extension yet. With the January transfer window nearing, he’ll be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any club.TBR Football reports that Bayern Munich are doing everything they can to convince Kimmich not to leave on a free transfer next summer.Last week, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Kimmich is personally overseeing his contract talks with Bayern Munich, with just some background advice and guidance. He views this contract, which could extend beyond 2025, as the most important of his career. It still does not feel like Kimmich is ready to make the jump to a new club, but if he did, PSG would have to ward off the likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. That might prove to be too tough of a task for PSG to manage given Kimmich’s popularity with the coaches and front offices for those clubs. In the end, it still feels like he wins this battle with Bayern Munich by keeping his current salary (or getting a raise) and will ink an extension. Barca in heated race for Gyökeres? (ESPN)FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is having a terrific season with 20 goals and two assist in 18 games across all competitions. Even with that, the Catalans are reportedly keeping an eye on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres (which makes them no different than just about every major club in Europe): Barcelona have joined the race to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, says Ekrem Konur. With a reported €100 million release clause, the 26-year-old has attracted interest from clubs around Europe, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Gyökeres is expected to leave Sporting at the end of the season, having already netted 16 goals in 11 league appearances. He has also impressed in the Champions League, scoring a hat trick in Sporting’s 4-1 win against Manchester City last week.Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 7, Episode 18 (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich is running away with the league this season; they have won nine of their 11 games and drawn another two; the draws came against the teams sitting second and fourth in the table currently, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, but is this the best Bayern out there? FC Bayern Munich Portraits Photo by P. Schreiber/FC Bayern via Getty Images While the senior team plows on, the youth teams are nearing their long winter break... Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus Round Up, where the matches of Bayern Munich’s U-19 and U-23 squads are recapped, line ups are provided and highlights to each match are hyperlinked on top of their respective score lines. The U-17’s are currently taking their winter break, so there is no U-17 match to recap this weekend. Unfortunately, none of these matches can be viewed in full length without an FCBayernTV subscription. Without further ado, here is the round up:SpVgg Bayreuth 1-1 Bayern IIBayern lineup (with subs): Ballis - Brückner, Breitkreuz, Dettoni, Rüger- Aseko, Becker (68. Kusi-Asare), Della Rovere (90.+2 Dell’Erba) - Irankunda (46. Wagner), Unsöld (78. Scott), Ličina (46. Jensen)Unavailable players: Moritz Mosandl, Javier Fernández, Younes Aitamer, Timo KernGoals: 1:0 Scheder (54.), 1:1 Kusi-Asare (77.)First and foremost, it is a joy to see the list of unavailable players shrink. The likes of Benjamin Ballis, Angelo Brückner, Lennard Becker, Jonah Kusi-Asare, Guido Della-Rovere, Davide Dell-Erba, Adin Ličina and Jonathan Asp Jensen have all been struggling with injury issues lately and over the course of the season, but are all now at or nearing full match fitness. The game itself was a real battle of attrition. Away to the team 2nd in the table and with a field covered in snow, Bayern II struggled to get any real rhythm going. This is a team that is built with technical quality ahead of physical strength in mind, so when fields are bogged down and passing is incredibly difficult, it can struggle. Nonetheless, SpVgg Bayreuth were the main cause for concern. The combination of their greater physical strength and their strategic attacking movement saw them overpower Bayern in the first half, generating many gilt-edged chances and somehow missing them all. They did not extend the same courtesy in the second half, however, with the side taking the lead in the 54th minute. Bayern managed to find the equalizer, however, thanks Della-Rovere. The 17-year-old Italian played an absolute blinder of a game, constantly battling the elements to drive at the opposition. He would step past opponents like they were not there, thread the needle through the tightest of spaces to his teammates and provided Bayern’s best moments. One of those moments was a brilliant cross that was flashed across goal and just begged Kusi-Asare to stick a leg out and put the ball in the back of the net, which he duly did. An exciting finale to the match ensued in which both sides had chances to win, but both title candidates settled for a point apiece.Though it was a valuable point against the team in 2nd, the other teams in the top six all won their games. Therefore, Bayern II remains 3 points behind Bayreuth with two games in hand, while they are six points behind 1. FC Schweinfurt in 1st with one game in hand. Bayern II plays two more games this season before the team’s winter break. Said winter break will only end at the end of February.Bayern U-19 2-1 SSV Jahn Regensburg U-19Bayern lineup (with subs): Stančić – Dalpiaz, Scholl, Puljić (62. Zöls), Ofli – Nasrawe (62. Eckl), Yildiz (46. Olychenko), Chávez – Binder (62. Schuhbauer), Codjo-Evora (62. Schäfer), Chemwor (78. Durakok)Unavailable players: Uhuns, Mergner, Santos, Mijatović, WilsonGoals: 1:0 Binder (17.), 2:0 Nasrawe (42.), 2:1 Kieffer (85.)The combination of Bayern U-19s last game before the international break and the international break meant that the team’s last game together was a while ago. And it showed in a genuinely sloppy and awful opening 15 minutes, in which the team could not pass out of the back to save their lives, string 5 passes together or win any of their duels in midfield. Fortunately, a combination of luck and a lack of clinical finishing from the visitors kept the score at 0-0 and setting the stage for Bayern to take the improbable lead. They did so via Tim Binder…

Hungary v Germany - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A3 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Another busy week for Bayern Munich’s loanees... This week, Bayern Munich loanees finished off an eventful international window. Lovro Zvonarek and Gabriel Vidović had a dramatic 120 minute affair with Croatia’s U21s in hopes of qualifying for the U-21 Euros. Bryan Zaragoza also scored his first international goal. Back in league play, Hyun-ju Lee and Maurice Krattenmacher both scored in the 2.Bundesliga. See what else the loanees accomplished this week:FC Bayern MunichThere are nine players on loan from the first team.Germany – BundesligaThere are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, Armando Sieb, and Gabriel Vidović.Alexander Nübel – VfB StuttgartNübel started for Germany away to Hungary on Tuesday, and played the full 90 minutes. Thanks to a big win the match before, Germany had already secured the top spot in the group, but it was nice to see Nübel get his second cap in as many international windows. He recorded five saves and held the shutout for more than 90 minutes, but could not save Dominik Szoboszlai’s penalty in the ninth minute of stoppage time. This late goal caused Germany to split the points with a 1-1 final score.Back with Stuttgart, Nübel started again on Saturday at home against Bochum. He recorded two saves, which was enough to earn a shutout for his team. Stuttgart scored two second half goals for the 2-0 win. Stuttgart will travel to Serbia to face Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday in the Champions League. They will also travel to Bremen for a league match on Saturday.Franz Krätzig – VfB Stuttgart Krätzig was not in the matchday squads for Stuttgart’s first or second team this weekend. Hopefully he can get some more playing time soon.Paul Wanner – 1.FC Heidenheim Heidenheim was away to Leverkusen on Saturday and went up 2-0 within 21 minutes. Wanner came off the bench in the 28th minute due to an injury to Pieringer, who had already provided an assist. Wanner did not have a shot, nor a chance created for his teammates to shoot on the day. Leverkusen came back with a vengeance and had the match tied up just minutes after Wanner came on. Three second half goals from Leverkusen made it five unanswered and Leverkusen cruised to a 5-2 win. They will also host Frankfurt in Bundesliga play on Sunday.Armando Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05Mainz was away to Holstein Kiel on Sunday and was up 3-0 in the second half before Sieb entered in the 80th minute. He only had six touches, but completed all four passes he attempted. He was unable to put anything else into the match, but his team did not need it. The match ended in a 3-0 road win.Mainz will host Hoffenheim on Sunday.Gabriel Vidović – 1. FSV Mainz 05Vidović was in Croatia for the return match of their Euro U-21 qualification against Georgia. He did not come into the match in regulation, but the aggregate score of 3-3 forced extra time, when Vidović came onto the pitch. He was unable to help Croatia find a goal in extra time, but scored the first goal in penalty kicks. Unfortunately, Croatia fell 7-6 after an epic shootout.Vidovic was not in the matchday squad for Mainz, but now shows on the injury report after his international stint. It states that he has an ankle injury and will be missing until late December. We wish him a quick recovery, but we may not see him until after the winter break.Spain – LaLiga Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Spain’s LaLiga. Bryan Zaragoza – CA OsasunaZaragoza was on the bench for Spain in their final Nation’s league group match against Switzerland. He came into the match just moments after Spain retook the lead at 2-1 in the 69th minute. In the 85th minute, he received a yellow card for dissent after Switzerland…

FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Can Kane keep it going vs. PSG in the Champions League? Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane knows that his squad needs a win in the Champions League given its placement in the standings. “We are not used to being so far down. But I don’t think anyone is familiar with the new system yet. We have to win the remaining games to get into the top 8. It will be a difficult game. There’s a lot at stake, we are aware of that,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s been a while since I’ve felt as good as I do now. The numbers are also really good. I feel really good. As an experienced player, you learn a lot from phases in the game. Since I’ve been at Bayern, my numbers have kept going up. I hope that keeps going and we can lift our level even further.”One player who Kane thinks will be able to help the squad climb its way back up the table is Jamal Musiala. The youngster’s future might be uncertain at the moment, but we can add Kane to the list of people, who hope that Musiala extends his contract. “Of course I hope he stays here for a long time. He’s a fantastic player and has all the qualities to become one of the best players in the world. He’s already close this season. We are trying to push him to get into the box more. He has also been scoring goals with his head recently. He’s one of the best players on the pitch for us. If he can produce these numbers consistently, he has no reason to hide from anyone,” said Kane. Finally, Kane recently found himself in the crosshairs of Didi Hamann, who said Kane does not score enough in important games for Bayern Munich.“I think that’s a bit out of context. If you look at last season I scored in games like Dortmund away, Stuttgart. It’s a bit out of context. I try to score in every game and help the team. We have a big week ahead. As always, I won’t judge my performance only by goals. If we get three wins and I don’t score, I’ll be happy, too,” said Kane. “I couldn’t get goals without the players around me who create space. We have a lot of competition for places, we have a lot of quality and tempo. Sometimes I like to drop back to allow them space. We understand each other very well. The more the season goes on, the better it’s going. Hopefully it’ll go well again tomorrow as well.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on everything going on with Bayern Munich? FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain: Round of 16 Second Leg - UEFA Champions League Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Who will be the hero for Bayern Munich this time? Since the demoralizing 4-1 loss to Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona, Vincent Kompany has led Bayern Munich to six consecutive clean sheet wins. Bayern has flexed a different version of domination in each victory but this fresh confidence will be severely tested in the next three matches, starting with Tuesday’s Champions League clash against PSG.Since 2001, Bayern has won five out of the last six matchups against PSG. This includes the glorious 1-0 win in the 2020 Champions League final that was decided by Kingsley Coman’s famous “eyes closed” header.PSG is six points clear of second-place Monaco in France’s Ligue One, but that success has failed to translate to the Champions League this season. PSG lost to Arsenal (2-0) and Atletico Madrid (2-1), drew against PSV Eindhoven (1-1), and barely beat Girona (1-0). PSG needs to find points quickly if the team wants to progress to the knockout rounds.Team newsGerman outlet kicker published lineup predictions:Bayern vs PSG | Predicted lineups [@kicker] pic.twitter.com/xN1waqeJaQ— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 24, 2024For Bayern, there are not any real surprises in the selection. Kompany has not shown a lot of rotation, and this is the same starting lineup as the Augsburg match with the exception of Konrad Laimer inserted at right back over Raphaël Guerreiro. Backed by Alphonso Davies, Coman’s pace on the left flank will be crucial in cancelling out the outrageous speed from Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi.Guerreiro will likely be used in the second half, along with Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry. Thomas Müller, Sacha Boey, and Eric Dier will be available as subs in the final 15 minutes, but should not expect to be big contributors. If the result is clear, it is possible that Adam Aznou earns his first Champions League minutes but he won’t be waiting on the edge of his seat.Bayern will continue to play without the services of Aleksandar Pavlović, João Palhinha, Josip Stanišić, Mathys Tel, Hiroki Itō, and Sven Ulreich.PSG has used the 4-3-3 all season but switched to a 4-2-3-1 in their last league match, a 3-0 win over Toulouse. PSG’s style is more on the defensive end of the spectrum and will likely park the bus with the hopes of springing the counterattack if Bayern’s backline commits too high up the pitch.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over FC Augsburg? Awesome, because we have a lot to say about a game that was thoroughly dominated by the Bavarians, but did leave something to be desired from the league. FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images How the turn tables… Most Bayern Munich fans are already resigned to the fact that Alphonso Davies is set to conclude his chapter in Germany in favor of a move to Real Madrid, and nothing has changed since. Until now:For a long time, it looked as if Alphonso Davies would leave FC Bayern at the end of the season on a free transfer, but after he rediscovered his form and became a key player again under Vincent Kompany, an extension is now a possibility. Bayern bosses are now open to extending Davies’ contract. Everything now depends on the salary, whether the player will accept Bayern’s most recent offer (around €14m/year) and whether the club will make concessions to reach an agreement. Vincent Kompany plays a very important role in the negotiations due to his close relationship with Davies and his conviction in the player’s qualities and potential.– Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaDavies is experiencing a resurgence in his career, finding his feet after a few inconsistent seasons.

FC Bayern Muenchen Training Session And Press Conference - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images Bayern Munich is preparing to square off with PSG! Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain, the Bavarians held an open training session where Joshua Kimmich spoke about the game. “It’ll be tough because Paris are a good team and because it’s the Champions League. They’re always special games. We need to be at our highest level,” Kimmich told FCBayern.com. Bayern Munich will have to achieve that highest level without Sven Ulreich, João Palhinha, Josip Stanišić, Hiroki Ito and Tarek Buchmann, who all did not participate in the team training session.Just about all of those were expected, but Buchmann, who has been injured or sick for roughly a year now, had recently participated in team training, so his absence was curious. In addition to the aforementioned players, Aleksandar Pavlović took part in the warm-up, but not the practice. FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images It’s simpler than you think When Bayern Munich got thumped 4-1 by FC Barcelona in the Champions League, it woke up something inside of Vincent Kompany. Already under scrutiny by then, he took it upon himself to completely change the way Bayern played:Last month’s defeat against Barcelona was a learning process for Vincent Kompany. After the game, the coach asked around internally, gathered opinions and made a minimal but important adjustment. Bayern are still pressing intensely and high, thereby nipping counterattacks in the bud. But Kompany pulled back the high line and slowed down the press a bit. That means if a 1v1 duel is lost in the attacking third, there’s even more protection behind to avoid being too open and easily countered as was the case in Barcelona.– German news outlet kicker as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMiaSince then, Bayern have won six straight games (unlike a certain club from Manchester), kept a clean sheet in all of them, and scored 17 goals on aggregate. A tough run of games await the Bavarians, so let’s hope that Kompany and the lads follow through.

FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Daniel Kopatsch/Getty Images Bayern is in dire need of another win to climb higher in the Champions League table and get in a spot to advance. If you only looked at current form, it would be rather difficult to guess that Bayern Munich had lost to both Aston Villa and Barcelona in the Champions League earlier in the season, but that is a matter a fact despite how high they are currently flying. Since Vincent Kompany’s side lost 4-1 at Barcelona back at the end of October, they have won six matches straight across all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the process. From the consecutive wins against VfL Bochum, Mainz, Union Berlin, Benfica, St. Pauli, and Augsburg, Bayern has outscored said opponents 17-0 and have looked a completely revitalized, high-firing side after their two slip-ups in Europe. They are now entering their most challenging stretch of the season yet with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen in the next round of the DFB-Pokal, and then Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. They also play RB Leipzig on the last Bundesliga match day of 2024. With PSG in Europe being the first hurdle to clear of this difficult stretch for Bayern, center back Dayot Upamecano, who’s partnership with Kim min-Jae continues to get more and more solid this season, stressed the importance of needing a result against the reigning Ligue 1 champions, who have also struggled in Europe this season. “It’s going to be a very important game for us because if you look at the table, it’s not great - we’re not where we want to be. We’re playing at home. It’ll be a good game and I hope we’ll win,” Upamecano stressed in an interview with French outlet Telefoot (via @iMiaSanMia). FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain: Round of 16 Second Leg - UEFA Champions League Photo by Richard Sellers/Getty Images Bayern currently sit in the 17th spot in the Champions League table, which is only good enough to secure a playoff spot for the knockout stages, while PSG sit in the 25th spot, just as desperate for a win. With the way the format has been changed, Bayern could jump into the automatic qualification spots depending how other results go, but anything less than a win could likewise prove to be just as problematic. Personally, for Upamecano, he will be squaring off against a handful of French compatriots with the duel against PSG. When he was asked whether or he has already communicated with any of said compatriots in the days leading up to the match, he replied, “not yet, but I’ll call Ousmane [Dembélé] and we’ll speak before and after the game.”

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is ready for his team’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. ”We’re playing against one of the best clubs in Europe, probably top 10. They have a lot of individual quality and a very good coach. They have speed and ability on the ball. Both teams will want to win. We’re playing at home. It’s an absolute priority for us,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “With three wins you qualify, with six wins you’re in the top 8. Looking at the table now is difficult. Some teams still have four very difficult games, some have easier games. We always talk about getting into the top eight. Our aim is to finish first. Our main goal is to win against PSG tomorrow.”When pressed about his team’s lack of a signature win, Kompany scoffed at the notion. “Criticism doesn’t matter to me, it never mattered and won’t in the future. What’s important is how the team lives and improves, how each individual player develops, even though they’re already top players. We don’t differentiate between games. All games aren’t easy. For us, there’s a big opportunity to show something for our fans tomorrow. But the mentality always has to be the same, regardless of the opponent. Hopefully our fans can go home tomorrow with a good feeling,” said Kompany. “Before Barcelona, we also kept a clean sheet. We stayed calm and worked. We knew that the season had been good so far. We also knew that it wasn’t perfect, it never is. It wasn’t about the basics. The team ran, fought and everyone was always committed. Then there was the game against Barcelona. It’s important that we learn from these moments. We are now looking ahead to the next game and will keep going.”Kompany also said that he does not buy the hype that this version of PSG is weaker than other recent groups from Paris. “It is definitely not the weakest squad in recent years. It’s a squad with incredible talent. Some of their players will play at a very high level in the coming years and maybe reach the level of the players mentioned, who are all-timers. The spaces between their lines are never big, their pressing is very aggressive and good. When they have the ball, they have a clear approach. As a team, they are really very good,” Kompany said. There are so significant changes from Friday’s injury report, but Aleksandar Pavlović did warm-up with the team today, which had some fans hoping the midfielder was getting closer to a return. Not so fast my friend. “No he’s not fully integrated yet. It’s going well and quickly, but it’ll still take a bit of time,” said Kompany. “I can’t say yet (when Pavlović will be back). We didn’t expect him back before January at all, but now it’s been quick so far. The medical department and Pavlo have worked well. But it’s important not to put too much pressure on him. He should come back 100% fit,” said Kompany. Looking for more thoughts and analysis on everything going on with Bayern Munich? Loading park for commercial vehicles Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images All of the signs are pointing towards a Musiala extension at Bayern, but nothing is done and dusted by any means. By all accounts, Bayern Munich is ready and willing to make Jamal Musiala one of the club’s highest earners alongside Harry Kane with what reports are suggesting the club is ready to offer him for the proposed contract extension. Talks between Musiala, his representatives Max Eberl, and Christoph Freund have already taken place, but there is still a decent amount left to cover in the negotiation process. The outlook for Bayern is looking good, though, and the Rekordmeister are on track to keeping a hold of Musiala through 2029 if all goes to plan.Reports have suggested Bayern is ready to have their playmaker earn up to 25 million euros per year, which would bring the overall extension package above 120 million euros for the proposed four-year deal. In essence, he would become the face of the club with that sort of deal, and it would really be a statement of intention to the rest of the European footballing landscape. Far too often, rising Bundesliga talents wind up getting shipped off to the Premier League in England after establishing prominence, but this new Musiala deal is a step in a different direction — world class talent can be produced, established, and maintained in the Bundesliga. Speaking on the proposed new deal, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, who just recently agreed to a contract extension with the club through 2027, was jubilant in his admiration of everything Musiala brings to the club. “It is no news that we want to extend the contract of one of the top players in the world who is in our team. Jamal Musiala has developed excellently with us, he’s a player who inspires the spectators, who creates a spectacle due to his individual class, who can turn a game around. And I very much hope that these first really good talks that Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are having with Jamal will ultimately lead to an extension,” he explained in an interview with az’s Maximilian Koch (via @iMiaSanMia). FC Bayern München v SL Benfica - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD4 Photo by Adam Pretty/Getty Images While talks between the club and Musiala over the new deal have been positive thus far, Dreesen did not want to put any sort of specific timetable on getting the deal over the line to create any unnecessary pressure on anyone externally or internally. It is something the club feels comfortable about and does not want to rush. “I don’t want to put a time limit on this now. The important thing is that it gets to that point, even if it doesn’t happen by the end of the year. Jamal Musiala is one of the faces of the future for FC Bayern, along with others like Aleks Pavlović and Joshua Kimmich. Players like that should shape the club,” he stressed.

FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images The winger and playmaker has struggled to get going for Bayern this season — but the Bavarians have a few issues in attack themselves. Bayern Munich is enjoying a strong run of form — although under the surface, questions about offensive efficiency persist. Meanwhile winger Leroy Sané, while working his way back to full fitness, has struggled to break back into the lineup.Could a swap for Sané — back to the left wing, where he enjoyed success at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola — be the solution Bayern needs? Head coach Vincent Kompany was asked about just this in the wake of Bayern’s 3-0 win over FC Augsburg on Friday.“I don’t know,” Kompany replied (as captured via @iMiaSanMia). “At the moment there’s no player on our team who is playing below standard. We already have four weapons on the wings. And then there are the others, Mathys Tel can play there too. So I’m happy.”The 3-0 result will hardly make the matter seem urgent. But Kingsley Coman enjoyed only limited success on the left against Augsburg, particularly during a first half in which the bulk of Bayern’s attacking thrust came down that wing. And the left-footed Sané, now ready to go again, clearly needs more minutes to find his footing and regain his confidence — but Michael Olise is locking down the right wing.Surely Kompany — whose playing days at City coincided with Sané’s left winger days — has thought about it. And Sané again came off the bench on Friday. As the Bavarians head into a Champions League midweek clash against Paris Saint-Germain, is a changeup in the attacking lineup brewing?Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s 3-0 victory over FC Augsburg? Awesome, because we have a lot to say about a game that was thoroughly dominated by the Bavarians, but did leave something to be desired from the league. FC St. Pauli 1910 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Gnabry is getting older but wiser. Once upon a time, Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry was one of the bright spots for the future of the club. While he never quite hit the heights envisioned for him on a prolonged basis, especially due to injury, he has grown into a mature and responsible young player.Serge Gnabry recently spoke about his personal development as he reaches closer to 30 per @iMiaSanMia: “I would say I’ve reached the stage of adulthood, the stage of reason. In every respect. And that feels good. Of course, the youthful enthusiasm of the past was also great. But everything in its own time. I’ll be 30 next year, which always sounds like footballers have to start thinking about the time after that. But I definitely don’t feel like that yet - not even like I’m 29 [smiles].”Serge Gnabry has started this season well and has seemingly gained the favor of his coach, Vincent Kompany. He has also returned to the Germany national team squad. Things are indeed looking on the up for the Bayern Munich winger.Looking for some talk on the prospect of Bayern Munich teaming up Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala? What about the rumors that Hansi Flick is planning a raid on Bayern Munich? Also, how good is this German national team squad? Sport-Club Freiburg v FC Bayern München - Women’s DFB-Cup: Round of 16 Photo by Daniela Porcelli/Getty Images An own goal in the first half and a Schüller goal in the second put Bayern into the final eight Bayern Munich were in Freiburg for the second time this month after a dramatic comeback turned a 2-0 deficit turned into a 2-2 draw just 16 days ago in league play. On Sunday, Bayern looked to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal Frauen. In the first half — and spoiler alert: the second half too — Freiburg started off with an amazing chance to score, but in the case of the first half, put the ball over the bar undefended. After absorbing some Freiburg pressure, Bayern turned up the heat on Freiburg. At first, their keeper, Borggräfe was up to the test, making a few really good saves one after the other. Sport-Club Freiburg v FC Bayern München - Women’s DFB-Cup: Round of 16 Photo by Daniela Porcelli/Getty Images A show of support for Mala Grohs from both teams before the match. The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Georgia Stanway saw a chance to take a quick free kick. She launched the ball from about midfield in the box and found Giulia Gwinn, who flicked it on towards Pernille Harder. Harder celebrated the goal, but a second look shows that it went off of the Freiburg defender, Felder. Bayern went into the break up 1-0. As mentioned, the second half started much like the first. Freiburg had one solid chance and a shot on goal, followed by five steady minutes of pressure were not enough to find an equalizer. Once Bayern got control of the match, they fashioned a few great chances for themselves. Bayern’s second goal came from a great buildup, ending in a Stanway pass across the face of goal that Lea Schüller put easily into the back of the net. Although Freiburg did not let up in the pressure, Bayern were on the front foot when Freiburg pulled a goal back. Cora Zicai — who was called up for the first time to Germany’s senior team for next week’s international window — took the ball in space, she cut inside and blasted a ball into the far post past Bayern’s keeper, Mahmutovic, to make it 2-1 in the 61st minute. Zicai remained the most dangerous player on the pitch for the final 30 minutes. Her free kick in from a dangerous position caused Mahmutovic and Schüller to clash heads in a scary collision. Zicai would also receive a knock and have to be removed from the match at the end. Hopefully this does not affect her callup to the Germany squad. It was a little shaky at the end, but Bayern was able to keep Freiburg from finding a second goal and finishing regulation at 2-2, like the last two times these teams have met in Freiburg. The result puts Bayern into the quarterfinals as they continue their revenge tour, looking for that elusive Pokal title. Meanwhile, Freiburg crash out at the Round of 16 for the second consecutive year.
