At just the age of 12, the biggest clubs in Germany courted the pre-teen for a chance to sign him, with Wanner choosing the biggest of them all in Bayern Munich. Since then, he as consistently labeled the crown jewel of the academy, with the hype building to an incredible crescendo when Wanner made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern at just 16 years of age.Given all of that attention, it is hardly surprising that the former Ravensburg youngster has sought to avoid the excessive attention at less glamorous locations. Wanner admits the hype was something he looked to avoid: “I think it was a lot, especially at the beginning, and it did me a lot of good to get out of my usual environment and just take a new step. Elversberg was a top option at first. There wasn’t much media attention around it, so you could work in peace and just play football. Heidenheim is a similar place,” Wanner assesses, via Sky Sports. “That helps all players - especially young ones.”But life is never that simple. Wanner nonetheless found himself in the headlines as the news that he rejected a call up from Julian Nagelsmann to the senior Germany team spread like a wildfire, amid a decision he needs to make between representing Austria or Germany. When asked about this, Wanner suggests he has not earned a spot in the senior team yet: “I think you can see that I want to do everything step by step. And that’s why I want to carry on playing for the U-21s as normal. There’s a European Championship next summer, which I’m really looking forward to. And I want to work and play for everything - step by step.”Subsequently, the discussion veers away from Wanner himself and to Heidenheim-specifically to their double header of big games against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and Chelsea FC in the Conference League. After a few weeks of bad results, the club and Wanner will be looking to turn things around: “The start [to the season] was very good. Now we are in a bit of a weak phase, which we are trying to get out of. We have to get points and then it doesn’t matter who we do it against. But of course it is something special for me, and also for the whole club, when such a big opponent as Chelsea comes to Heidenheim. Nevertheless, we want to give it our all.”Despite their relative struggles in the Bundesliga, Heidenheim are perfect in the Conference League. And they will want to keep it that way, even when Premier League opposition come to give them their sternest challenge yet.

Well, maybe in the Bundesliga. Thanks to modern medicine and continuous scientific breakthrough in sport science, the modern footballer has received a major boost in injury recovery and prevention. However, all the good work done in recovery science is perhaps being outdone by an increasingly congested schedule. While scientific breakthrough in injury recovery and prevention are important, the solution to the injury and fatigue players suffer from an ever growing fixture schedule may be slightly simpler.Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, for one, thinks the Bundesliga has the right idea introducing a mid-season “Winterpause” to help players rest and recover (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Last year was my first experience of a long winter break. It really helped me recover in a tough period. It’s a shame they [Premier League] don’t get that break. It’s really important to get away and recharge, even for just a week or so,” said Kane.Kane’s favour of the Winterpause for recovery isn’t just placebo. Historically, the Three Lions captain has suffered his biggest injuries just past the midway point of the season. This comes just after the Premier League’s infamous Christmas and New Years schedule, where games take place just about every second or third day. The result of this for many players, especially players like Harry Kane who get a lot of mileage, is injury. Since joining the Bavarians, Kane has not suffered any major injuries, missing just two games as a result of injury. Now, it may be a stretch to give all the credit to the Bundesliga’s Winterpause, but at the very least it has been a big help in terms of recovery for Kane and other players alike. The Premier League and other leagues that do not offer any respite for a packed schedule may soon have to ask themselves whether they value entertainment over the health of their players. After playing a pivotal part in Germany’s bronze medal campaign in last Summer’s Olympic Games, she has drawn attention from and international audience — including European powerhouse FC Barcelona. According to Sport.es, Bühl was in the Catalonian capital last week and met with Barcelona officials at the team facilities. It has also been rumored that her agent made a separate visi with team officials. Bühl’s contract ends with Bayern in June 2025, at the conclusion of the current season.This rumored move confounds some fans of women’s soccer because Barcelona already has a strong attack and wonder how Bühl would fit in. As for Bayern’s side of things, they would lose an every match starter who constantly contributes to the scoreline. She also is a great leader on presence on the field.Bühl came to Bayern in 2020 on a free transfer from Freiburg. She has 36 goals in 135 appearances in all competitions for Bayern and has contributed to three Meisterschale. She also has 27 goals in 60 caps for the senior national team. Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry is leading by example while following in the footsteps of other Germany legends such as Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm and Per Mertesacker by giving back to society. He recently set up the Serge Gnabry foundation and spoke about it per @iMiaSanMia.On what motivated him to start the foundation: I’d had the idea for a while. As a professional footballer, I’m doing so well that I want to give something back. That’s how I was brought up. I’ve also seen what others I’ve played with can achieve. Manuel Neuer, for example, Philipp Lahm or Per Mertesacker. I took their example and have now set up my own foundation.”Why he decided to focus on health: “I decided to focus on the topic of health because it is important to me personally. With my team, I want to help people who need support due to an illness.
