RSC Anderlecht, winning Premier League promotion with Burnley, and then getting relegated with Burnley back down to the English Football Championship League — it’s not quite exactly the career sheet that transitions into the Bayern Munich job, but that is exactly what happened for Vincent Kompany.The rumor mill wheels were turning fast when Bayern announced Thomas Tuchel would be leaving the club at the end of last season, but Kompany’s name really did not emerge as a prime replacement candidate until after other candidates had turned the job down. Julian Nagelsmann wanted to extend his contract with the German national team, Ralf Rangnick wanted to stay with the Austria national team, and Xabi Alonso wanted to stay with Bayer Leverkusen. Former Bayern and Germany manager Hansi Flick also had his heart set on Barcelona, and that’s where he wound up. Fast forward to now, and Kompany has Bayern sitting atop the Bundesliga table and well within reach of automatic qualification for the Champions League knockouts with the new format that has been introduced for this season onward. It certainly has not been perfect for the Belgian manager, but he has, for intents and purposes, adjusted quite well to making the jump from Burnley to Bayern.“That’s an interesting question that we’ve often discussed before. Bayern Munich’s U-19s survived the group stages of the UEFA Youth League, rescuing a spot in the Top 22 with a win over Shakhtar Donetsk’s U-19s when a draw or a loss would have seen the Bavarians eliminated from the competition altogether. The team hardly gets a chance to breathe, however, as the draw for the Round of 32 pits Bayern up against a very difficult opponent.Betis Sevilla’s U-19s, better known as Real Betis, will be hosting Bayern’s U-19s in a single elimination knockout match. They qualified through the champions’ path, having finished 2nd in their domestic group. This season, so far, they are comfortably top of and undefeated in their domestic group with 43 points after 17 games. Bayern’s official website provides more context on the team’s opponents: Head coach Daniel Fragoso’s team qualified for the round of 32 via the champions’ path. The Spaniards triumphed in the second round with a 6-1 home and 5-0 away win over FC Kairat Almaty. With a goal/assist every 170 minutes (that’s a goal or assist in roughly every two games), the player has been exceeding expectations with the limited minutes he has enjoyed with a club that is currently placed 16th in the Bundesliga table.It is therefore of little surprise that, according to @iMiaSanMia’s tweet featuring a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) and Patrick Berger (@berger_pj) , Bayern Munich’s priority is a loan deal for Wanner at a Champions League club:Paul Wanner’s future remains totally open. If he wouldn’t have a regular spot at Bayern next season, then the priority is for another loan deal, this time to a Champions League club. Dortmund are intensively monitoring Wanner’s situation, but there’s currently no contact or talks. BVB would look for a permanent deal. This is the logical next step for the player, given he is proving himself with the limitations in quality around him. Champions League game experience could be a welcome addition to the 18-year-old's development. The report also mentions Borussia Dortmund’s interest in securing the player on a permanent deal.The Bayern brass would be remiss to let anything of the sort transpire. Wanner received a callup from the German national team at the age of 18. We are talking about one of the deepest and most star-studded squads in international football. When Bayern Munich acquired Nestory Irankunda, there were some fans who assumed that the Australian winger would get some first-team playing time. Not so fast and it appears that Irankunda, himself, thought he would get a little more of a look with the senior team. Now, the 18-year-old is ready for more of a look at first-team football — even if that means going away on a loan assignment. “Of course I’ve spoken to them [Bayern]. Obviously you want to be playing, you want to be playing at a top level, first league, first division and at a good club also. I’ve been in talks with the club and also the coaches about going on loan, because I feel like it will be better for me. I have to be playing, I can’t keep playing under-23s every week. So I’m in talks with them, and hopefully I get a club soon,” Irankunda said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Taking his case to the media might not go over too well in the offices at Säbener Straße, but Irankunda is clearly yearning for a chance to prove himself at higher level. Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies made his return to the starting XI after battling an injury and made a very positive impact in his team’s 5-1 victory by contributing a goal and being a menace for the opposition to deal with. After the match, Davies said he knew the magnitude of such a showdown and the implications it could have on the league title race. “We wanted to win this game despite what happened last game against Mainz. We wanted to come back and show that we have more in the tank. We did that today,” Davies told ESPN’s Archie Rhind-Tutt (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). The result was, indeed, extremely important for both teams as Bayern Munich cemented itself as the league frontrunner, while RB Leipzig has to examine why things are operating at an optimal level. As for Davies, interest from Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, and Liverpool FC is looming. In just a few days, the Canadian will be able to formally start talking to those clubs about his future. Bayern Leverkusen crushed SC Freiburg 5-1 behind an incredible effort from Florian Wirtz, who had a goal and three assists (while also having a penalty attempt saved). The benefactor of Wirtz’s playmaking was striker Patrik Schick, whose role has greatly expanded in recent weeks. Schick had four goals to help pummel SC Freiburg. “When a striker scores four goals, you can’t complain,” said Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso (as captured by Forbes). “Patrik also does a lot of work off the ball, and when he does that well, he scores the goals. He helps the team, and they make the chances for him.”Schick credited Wirtz for his massive day. “For a striker, it’s a dream to have this player behind you,” Schick said (as captured by The Washington Times). The Bavarians are the clear frontrunners in the hunt and could have a deal done as soon as January. However, that does not mean other teams will just quit and walk away. Some clubs will lob a friendly volley over hoping to spark a conversation — including Liverpool FC. Per Rousing the Kop correspondent Graeme Bailey, Liverpool wants to be ready to act quickly if Musiala has second thoughts about a future in Germany: RTK understands that Liverpool view Musiala as a generational talent and see the potential chance to bring him to Anfield as being too good to turn down. However, it’s understood that there is yet to be any guarantee that the former Chelsea prospect will be available.While Musiala has publicly admitted that he will not sign a new deal at Bayern before Christmas, RTK has been informed that it is still possible that he commits his future to the German giants in 2025. Nevertheless, Liverpool are understood to be fully aware of Musiala’s situation and are taking steps to ensure they stay in the race.RTK transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has been told that the Reds are very much in touch with the Germany international’s representatives in order to stay in the loop. It’s always easier, working with people you like.Take it from any of us at Bavarian Football Works — or even better, take it from Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané.The explosive Germany winger is in the final year of his Bayern contract, with his future, at least for the moment, up for discussion. But signs point to Sané at least wanting to re-up in Bavaria, and a factor in that appears to be his close friendship with club and national team teammate Jamal Musiala — whom he has acknowledged as his best friend at Bayern.“I feel totally comfortable with Jamal, on and off the pitch, we have fun together,” Sané relayed in an interview for Sport Bild this month, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “He’s not only a very good player, but has also become a real friend. I can very well imagine going on holiday with Jamal after our time playing together. “We are more than ‘player friends’, much more than just normal teammates. I hope that we will continue to play together for a long time. But even if that’s no longer the case, we’ll still be friends.”Whether they can continue depends on the Bayern front office, of course. Lots of balls are up in the air at the moment for Max Eberl, Christoph Freund, and the rest of the sporting leadership to juggle — Sané’s extension, a new contract for Musiala himself, and potentially a big transfer for Bayer Leverkusen superstar (and FT ship item) Florian Wirtz.But remember what we said about enjoying the people you work with? Michael Olise’s jump from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich was one of the most surprising moves of last summer, especially considering that no one else in the Premier League jumped in to intercept the deal.Given the uncertainty surrounding Mo Salah’s future with Liverpool FC, noted pundit Didi Hamann is shocked that the Reds did not at least take a shot at Olise before he fled for Germany. “I’m very surprised no one picked him up in England, if anyone was to replace Mohamed Salah, it would be Michael Olise. He’s a brilliant player, he can score goals and create. Bayern won’t want to lose Olise, but I won’t be surprised if teams like Liverpool or Manchester United offer a big fee for him,” Hamann told Flashscore. “Michael Olise will need to stay for a few years to reach that level, but he does have the ability to become as good as Arjen Robben. He certainly has the ability.”Olise’s tenure at Bayern Munich started out with a bang, but some up-and-down performances of late have left him, well, like the rest of the position group — in a battle for minutes.The good part is that Olise has already shown great promise. Now, the Frenchman will just have to harness all of that ability and channel it into consistent performances.

Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is known for entertaining audiences with his audacious skills, incredible dribbles and deadly goal scoring instincts. In fact, he is arguably one of the most entertaining football players in the world. However, even the greatest entertainers need their own viewing pleasure. Musiala is no exception. And what better source than some other great, entertaining sportsmen?Asked which sports legends he would pay to watch live, the former Chelsea FC youngster first veered to a totally different sport: “There are a few: basketball players Steph Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant,” Musiala says, via @iMiaSanMia. “I would love to watch a game of theirs. As for football, I would pay money for [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo or Neymar.”Well, Musiala did have a free front row seat to watching Messi play in a certain iconic Bayern vs FC Barcelona match in the 2019/20 Champions League.Regarding his interest in basketball, it does not come out of nowhere. It turns out Musiala is not just talented at football, his sly movements and clinical shots on the footballing field also translate to the court. And just when one thinks the German youngster could not be more talented. Perhaps he could fill in sometime for Bayern’s basketball team?

Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha is making progress on his rehab and is expecting to be fully ready to go in January. “I’m feeling better and better,” Palhinha told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m very happy to be part of this great club. I really like Munich, my family and I have settled in really well. It’s a safe, organized and very nice city.”Palhinha will presumably be in competition for the No. 3 midfield spot with Leon Goretzka and Konrad Laimer. Joshua Kimmich looks untouchable as the club’s top midfielder and Aleksandar Pavlović had a firm hold on the No. 2 spot prior to his collarbone injury. While not the same since returning from the injury, most expect Pavlović to retake his starting role when games start back up. Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has emphasized the fact that the winter transfer window for the club is going to be focused around sorting out new contracts for current Bayern players rather than incoming transfer business. There are a handful of key players for the Rekordmeister that are currently in the midst of having new deals negotiated and some will certainly take some time to get over the line; especially for the likes of Jamal Musiala, whom the club are fully prepared to make their highest paid player in the squad.For some of the veteran players in the squad, the case for a new deal is far less complicated, and more of a matter of if the club wants to extend any player over the age of 30, for most cases, for another season or not. For keeper Manuel Neuer, he falls into this category, but it is fully expected that he will be given another one year extension with the club despite his recent injury history that has opened the door for Daniel Peretz to get some valuable minutes in between the sticks. Per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, the contract extension for Neuer is currently moving forward as expected. It is planned that the veteran keeper will be getting a one-year extension to push his contract to run through June 2026 and the club plans on finalizing the extension some time at the beginning of 2025. The contract will not include the option of another season with Bayern, so the club will likely have to assess where things are at when it comes time to decide whether or not they’ll offer Neuer another extension after 2026. There will be many factors taken into consideration for that when the time does come.Former club CEO Oliver Kahn and President Uli Hoeneß both share the opinion that Neuer can play at the top level into his 40s, but it remains to be seen whether or not that will be the case. Right now, he is 38 and has had some significant injury concerns in the past couple of seasons, but if he came remain fully fit and healthy, there is every chance he can push his 40s and still start for Bayern. A brilliant, buccaneering Bayern Munich performance led to a 5-1 win in the Bundesliga over a hapless RB Leipzig side, but it was always overshadowed by the tragedy that happened shortly before the game in Magdeburg. Bayern legend Thomas Müller revealed that the team did not know about it until after the final whistle.“We found out after the game. It’s often difficult to put into perspective. We’re concentrating on football, are completely in the zone and then every so often you’re confronted with reality. We desperately wanted to win, and do so in a certain manner. But you can never plan for such a clear result,” Müller said (as captured by FCBayern.com). “You can only plan things and put them into practice, which will then lead you on your way: duels, speed of passing and so on. “The set-up was more comfortable today than [in the 2-1 loss to] Mainz last week, because Leipzig are also a team that want to play football, even though they’re not in their best phase at the moment.
