Bayern Munich player Paul Wanner has been struggling to pick between representing Austria and Germany for some time now. He is eligible to represent both but he feels torn. Some look at the Germany team and claim that Wanner’s decision should be easy. After all, Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala are the two stars of the future for Germany and play in Wanner’s position of attacking midfielder. Why compete with them?But Wanner sees it differently. “I don’t think about it too much. I have to make the decision [between Germany and Austria] myself, it comes from the heart and then it doesn’t really matter which players are playing, I just have to feel like I’m playing for the country,” the Heidenheim loan player countered, via Sky Sports. “And I want to wait a little longer and only decide when the time is right.”Still, Musiala went through the same struggle Wanner did. Perhaps the Bayern star could give some advice in this regard? But Wanner points to a recent press conference with Musiala to show that the former Chelsea FC youngster already gave him all the advice he needs: “When I joined the Bayern pros, he hadn’t been at the top for very long either. He helped me. But he didn’t give me any advice about the national team. As he said: I just have to take my time, talk to my family and make a decision at some point.”Every person has their own process and needs to make that decision for themselves. Musiala already made the decision (and the right one, too), but he took the time he wanted and made his decision without doing so to bend to anyone’s whims. This is the result of an examination by the FC Bayern medical department. Though they overpowered and out-ran Bayern Munich with a superb 3-2 comeback win last season, it was at their home stadium. Now, they were faced with a full stadium of opposing fans and a team that simply would not let themselves be overpowered. So the team had to adapt accordingly.Heidenheim head coach Frank Schmidt explained the exact nature of the adaption and how it impacted the rest of the match, via FCBayern.com: “We took a different approach today – very defensive. Especially in the first half, we didn’t have any breathing room at all. We wanted to do things differently in the second half and equalised with the first mistake Bayern made. But in order to then not lose momentum, you can’t lose the ball five minutes later and open up the centre. The good thing is that we scored two goals here and never gave up. I don’t think anyone would have thought after the first half that it would be exciting again. In the end, we lost and it’s a deserved defeat.”Niklas Dorsch, who scored his side’s second goal, had a slightly different view on the matter. There was definitely a point in the game for Heidenheim, according to the former Bayern youngster: “If we played a bit more clever, we might’ve gotten another chance, but then all of a sudden it’s 4-2 and the game is over. Ultimately, I’m happy about every goal, but it would also be nice if it was a goal that led to victory. If we held on to the draw for longer after scoring to make it 1-1 and Bayern had gotten a bit impatient, then there might have been more in it. I think we could have secured a point today.”It is that resilience which Heidenheim will look to call upon as they stare down the barrel of a relegation fight, despite topping the table early in the season. If they can retain their resilience, they should be comfortably clear of any relegation worries by May next year. When Robert Lewandowski departed Bayern Munich for FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022, it sent shockwaves through the footballing world — and left the Bavarians scrambling to replace him.Bayern ultimately swung for Liverpool forward Sadio Mané in what would turn out to be an ill-fated transfer, as well as youngster Mathys Tel, whose future in Bavaria is yet to be determined.But another name on the rumor mill that summer was actually a serious topic of discussion: current Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké.Sport Bild published a report detailing Bayern’s pursuit of the 22-year-old Frenchman and how it ultimately fizzled. Via @iMiaSanMia:For the 2022/23 season, Bayern was interested in Hugo Ekitiké. Hasan Salihamidžić and Marco Neppe had met his agent for talks in Munich. The background was that Robert Lewandowski was about to leave for Barcelona at the time. Bayern were looking for a replacement [ @SPORTBILD]Ultimately, however, it remained just preliminary talks. During the internal transfer meetings, Bayern decided against Ekitiké and in favour of signing Mathys Tel. Since 2014, our office in New York has been close to sports enthusiasts in the USA, which was a decisive step, and with the 2026 World Cup in mind, football will once again gain a greater presence in the United States. Heidenheim scored twice against the run of play making life very nervy for Bayern Munich at times, but the Rekordmeister came away with a 4-2 win led by a brace from Jamal Musiala to ease away some of the pain from getting knocked out of the DFB-Pokal midweek against Bayer Leverkusen. Dayot Upamecano invited the visitors back into the match in the 50th minute with a poor back pass to Daniel Peretz after it was his header from a Joshua Kimmich corner that took Bayern into the halftime break 1-0 up. Lax defending allowed Heidenheim to make it 3-2 after Leon Goretzka’s deflected effort in the 84th minute made it 3-1 to Vincent Kompany’s side, but Musiala’s goal in the first minute of stoppage time sealed the deal to keep Bayern firmly cemented at the top of the Bundesliga table.While Heidenheim did make it interesting for Bayern, Kompany was able to give brief rests to Musiala, Konrad Laimer, and Kingsley Coman, none of whom were in the starting lineup. He was also able to slot Aleksandar Pavlović back into the starting lineup, replacing Goretzka from the midweek loss to Leverkusen and the Der Klassiker draw against Borussia Dortmund last weekend. Kompany had recently retorted to Toni Kroos’ comment that Bayern is far too reliant on Musiala, saying that there is plenty of attacking quality in the squad in addition to the German phenom. After the win over Heidenheim, he was asked about the wingers he has at his disposal in the squad and whether or not he feels they need to be more productive overall. “I said two weeks ago that I thought I had world class wingers, so I cannot change my statement now after two weeks. For what it’s worth, two of the assists from the win over Heidenheim were provided by Leroy Sané and Raphaël Guerreiro, who can play as a winger in addition to midfield and defense. It was also Michael Olise who provided the all-important assist to Musiala late on in the 1-1 draw at Dortmund to rescue a point for Dortmund as far as recent memory is concerned for Bayern’s wingers. Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg provided an update to the transfer situation surrounding Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim central midfielder Tom Bischof. Per Plettenberg, Bayern Munich has already held talks with Bischof’s representatives: The initial talks between FC Bayern and Tom Bischof’s management were positive. However, no figures have been presented yet. The discussions were primarily focused on gathering information and outlining perspectives.Internally, the 19 y/o top talent is considered a transfer target for the summer ✔️⚠️ However, Hoffenheim not giving up and aims to extend his contract beyond 2025. Early this week, there were concrete discussions involving Andreas Schicker and Bischof.Frankfurt and Leipzig are also showing concrete interest.X account @iMiaSanMia captured more from Plettenberg that indicates that Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was involved in the conversations: First talks between Bayern and Tom Bischof’s management have taken place, but concrete numbers have not been discussed yet. Bayern Munich has officially retired the No. 5 shirt in memory of the great Franz Beckenbauer.The decision was announced at the club’s Annual General Meeting, just around a month from the first anniversary of Der Kaiser’s passing. As the first meeting after Beckenbauer’s death, it also paid tribute to him in different ways, such as inviting his widow Heidi and his son Joel.This is the first ever time that Bayern have retired a shirt number in honor of a player. The No. 12 shirt is also permanently retired, but in honor of the fans behind the team, who are often referred to as the “twelfth player.”The fact that the No. 5 is currently vacant probably helped with the decision as well. No player has worn the 5 since last year, when its previous owner, Benjamin Pavard, moved to Inter Milan. While it was an unexpected decision, it was certainly an understandable one. Beckenbauer is widely regarded as not only the greatest ever player to play for Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, but also the greatest defender in footballing history. This writer had previously written a piece daring to compare him to Bayern’s current living legend Thomas Müller, only for the readers to overwhelmingly vote in favor of the Kaiser. Speaking of whom, perhaps Bayern will have a go at retiring the No. 25 when he retires as well?Regardless, there have been numerous ways that people have been commemorating Beckenbauer since his passing, including ceremonies, address changes, and more. This is just the latest entry on that list, and a big one at that.

The DFB-Pokal blues continue to hit hard after another early exit from the German cup by Bayern Munich. The disappointing 0-1 loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen has been a difficult pill to swallow. Bayern’s Jamal Musiala was part of the 10 man side trying to turn the tide until the final whistle but unfortunately failed to do so. Now, with still two trophies to play for, the 21 year-old is looking forward for his team to redeem themselves in the upcoming games. Musiala had this to say after the Pokal exit(as captured by @iMiaSanMia) “I thought a lot about it in the past 3 days, it’s annoying - but we can’t change it now.
