FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Rewriting the script in the final act. Bayern Munich bounced back after dropping points last time out in the Bundesliga to Borussia Dortmund — and subsequently getting bounced from the DFB-Pokal by Bayer Leverkusen — with a 4-2 win over FC Heidenheim that exploded to life in the final ten minutes and change.Credit to Frank Schmidt’s men: if Bayern thought they could rest easy, and perhaps they did after Leon Goretzka’s 85th minute goal to make it 3-1, Heidenheim had other ideas.Niklas Dorsch hit back immediately and the underdogs chased the game to its frenetic conclusion. Jamal Musiala put the finishing touches on the Bayern victory by getting behind the entire Heidenheim defense — which had bravely pushed forward to try to nick a point off the Bavarians. That certainly was not the story of the whole game:2024-25 #BundesligaPass-maps & touch-plots:MD13 #FCBayern v #FCH1846Bayern v HeidenheimEvery Bayern player bar Kim had an average position in the Heidenheim half.#BAYFCH#BayernMunich #FCHeidenheim— Bundesliga Stats (@bundesliga-stat.bsky.social) 2024-12-07T16:33:49.545ZSo, how did everyone do? FC Bayern München v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 League Phase MD5 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images WIll Bayern Munich pay Alphonso Davies the rumored price? According to a report from Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, it might take a total package of up to €95 million for Bayern Munich to re-sign Alphonso Davies on a five-year deal. Falk post the information below on X: ✅ Manchester United have asked Alphonso Davies (24) and his Manager for a Meeting in January❇️ Davies is a free Agent in Summer and he can then negotiate and sign with another club from January 1st❇️ Bayern have not yet accepted the demand of €16 million salary per year and €15 million signing feeObviously, a four-year deal would knock it down €16 million, but at 24-years-old, it would make sense for the Bavarians to propose a five-year contract. On Thursday, it was report by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg that Davies was willing to make “significant concessions” to extend his contract with Bayern Munich. If Falk’s numbers represent the concessions, what kind of crazy cash was Davies really asking for? Regardless, it now seems like everyone’s cards are on the table and it is getting close to decision time. At first glance, €16 million per season, plus a €15 million in a signing bonus seems like a lot for a left-back, but...Davies might really be worth it. Under Vincent Kompany, Davies has regained that vigor that he had as a young player under Hansi Flick. Perhaps a loss of focus under Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel set Davies back, but now he seems to be rising back to the level he achieved under Flick. That player — with that lofty ceiling — is one to build with, rather than one to let walk away (nor drive away at this point either). Just a week ago, we were fretting an immature and unprofessional drinking-and-driving incident that involved police. Now, we are debating whether or not to spend close to €100 million on the Canadian for the next five years. Yup...life comes at you quick. In the end, would you re-up Davies for five years and a total package of €95 million?Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show: Season 4, Episode 21Bayern Munich is winding down the Hinrunde and things are surprisingly busy both on and off the field. While Vincent Kompany has some work to do to get the team back on track, the front office could be setting the table for a squad overhaul for next summer. Let’s not waste any more time and get right down to discussing all of it on the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show: Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg says that there has been a lot of progress in talks between Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies. Could it be possible that — after ALL of the Real Madrid talk — the Canadian stays in Bavaria?Hoffenheim’s Tom Bischof has been linked to Bayern Munich and is available on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Should Bayern Munich strike while the iron is hot for the precocious 19-year-old?Let’s check in on how we are feeling about the Bayern Munich wingers. A brief Entertainment Rundown. Song of the Week: “Corduroy” by Pearl JamAdmittedly, I’ve been back on a Pearl Jam kick of late and after years of pushing this song (thanks to heavy radio rotation in Philly), I randomly heard the song and immediately fell back into 1994. Pearl Jam’s album release sequence of Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, No Code, Yield, and Binaural was pretty incredible. If you were in college in the 90s, you know what I’m talking about. If you are a young person, then go back and listen to those full albums in that order. Anyway, when I first fired up this CD, “Corduroy” was the standout song of the album to me. Hopefully you’ll come away as blown away as I was at the time. Enjoy: Entertainment RundownI have not mustered the time or energy to start a new series or a new season of a show, but I did indulge in a couple of movies...Deadpool & WolverineAdmittedly, I am a sucker for the Deadpool movies. I think they’re witty and well-written…

Bayern Munich - Bayer Leverkusen Photo by Tom Weller/picture alliance via Getty Images A pivotal decision awaits the Bayern and Germany legend. Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is one of several of the club’s stars in the last year of his contract.Despite what can only be qualified as a legendary career, though, Neuer is clearly nearer to the end than to the beginning. The question for Bayern is thus: how close to the end? When, and how, does the club move on?These are never easy questions to resolve at the end of a star’s career, especially in the case of one so beloved. But from a new report in SZ, the Bavarians are reportedly planning to extend the 38-year-old another season.Via @iMiaSanMia:Despite the recent injuries and uncertainties, Bayern are still planning to extend Manuel Neuer’s contract. This plan has largely been agreed within the club. And internally, it is said that the probability Neuer would decide to retire on his own is ‘less than 1%’. Max Eberl is currently working on contract extensions (Kimmich, Musiala, Davies) and at the same time keeping an eye on the budget with a view to a move for Florian Wirtz. Therefore, the club is not in favor of opening an additional ‘construction site’, which is the goalkeeping position. At the moment, Bayern do not feel compelled to take action in this position. They’re aware that Manuel Neuer is no longer good enough to be the world’s best goalkeeper, but they believe he’s still good enough to stand between the posts for another season [@SZ]There is lots to unpack here — starting with the awareness that Neuer himself, who has said he would like to play into his 40s, will not retire of his own accord. That is only natural for any player and cannot be held against him. But as The Athletic’s Rory Smith noted on Bluesky recently, observing the dilemmas of Liverpool and Manchester City with respect to their own aging stars: “How much are you prepared to pay to watch the sun set?”Struck me this week that it’s odd two of the best PL players of their era — Salah and KDB — might both walk for free this summer. Suspect Liverpool and City would like to keep both, but they have to gamble: how much are you prepared to pay to watch the sun set? https://ift.tt/YwAEoaS...— Rory Smith (@rorysmith.bsky.social) 2024-11-29T12:22:05.745ZWhether the sun is indeed setting on Neuer is still a matter of some debate. But neither stats nor his high-profile red card error that probably cost the team its DFB-Pokal campaign this year will flatter him. And Bayern, budget-conscious while eyeing expensive transfers and other major contract extensions, will have to decide what to do with perennially on-loan deputy Alexander Nübel — younger, on lower wages, and evidently good enough to start in the Bundesliga and Champions League. But as Neuer’s exploits against PSG just a few games ago remind us...sometimes, the sunset is glorious. Let’s enjoy Neuer’s career and his time at Bayern — however long it lasts.Looking to keep up with everything happening at Bayern munich on — and off — the field? FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - DFB Cup: Round of 16 Photo by Boris Streubel/Getty Images Let’s forget what happened in midweek and move on Right so we’re not gonna talk about what happened to Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal and instead we’ll be looking at how the team could line up against Heidenheim. The Bavarians had a difficult time against Borussia Dortmund and will look to bounce back with a good showing against beatable opposition.Team newsApart from the usual absentees, Manuel Neuer missed the last training session before this game and is a doubt to start in goal. Barring any surprise black magic recovery from the 38-year-old and Sven Ulreich only returning, Daniel Peretz might finally get a chance to start in goal. Furthermore, Aleksandar Pavlović is back and is likely to slide right back into the starting XI; Bayern sorely missed him, and his return is a massive boost for the Rekordmeister. With Harry Kane still out with an injury and given the opponent, it is likely that Vincent Kompany goes for his best possible team and hope to get the job done ASAP to facilitate early substitutions. That said, Mathys Tel will start up top, supported by Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, after which Pavlović joins Joshua Kimmich in midfield. The backline is set in stone save for one change: Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae (it looks like he’s willing to risk it all despite not being 100% fit), and Sacha Boey comprises the defensive line while Peretz steps in between the sticks. The lineup should look something like this: Media While you’re here, why not listen to our preview show for this match? Spain v Switzerland - UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A4 Photo by Gabriel Jimenez/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images The Spaniard won’t have a home in Munich Bayern Munich recently loaned out Bryan Zaragoza, a young Spanish talent, to Osasuna FC after deciding that he would need more time to develop before being able to break through Bayern’s first 11. The Spaniard was set to return to Bayern this coming summer, but this probably won’t be the case. According to a report captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern Munich does not have Bryan Zaragoza in its plans for the future. Vincent Kompany probably does not see how the Spanish talent would fit into his system, considering the depth chart, and so they will most likely choose not to bring him back to Säbener Straße. Considering this, the club will be open to offers for Zaragoza, and will probably sell him to the best bid. This may be slightly disappointing for some fans, as Zaragoza proved to be quite a talent during his time away at Osasuna. Looking to get ready for Bayern Munich vs. Heidenheim this weekend? FC Bayern München v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - DFB Cup: Round of 16 Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images As a substitute, one needs to use every chance one has. Tel, unfortunately, could not. The idea that every player in Bayern Munich’s squad has the same fair chance of making the starting XI is a little fanciful, especially when one considers the egos, dressing room influence and contracts at play, but Vincent Kompany has proven that he can change his mind if a squad player does well. Alphonso Davies was temporarily dropped for Raphaël Guerreiro at the start of the season before winning his spot back, while Leroy Sané has recently made his way back after the arrival of big money signing Michael Olise in his position. Unfortunately, youngster Mathys Tel could not do the same when handed the chance to start against Borussia Dortmund. “Mathys has done very well in training over the past few weeks and [had] forced his way into the team,” explained Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “King [Coman] was a bit tired from the PSG game, Serge [Gnabry] had a small injury to his knee — and so the chance was there for him. He didn’t really grab the chance, but he didn’t back down either. As a young player who hasn’t played for a long time, you need the others too. And in the first half, we as a team didn’t play the way we wanted to.”Unfortunately, being unable to take such chances means opportunities may remain limited for Tel and he may need to finally acquiesce to finding a loan. Looking to swoop in and provide him a landing spot for such a loan could be S.S. Lazio.Via @iMiaSanMia: Lazio are keeping an eye on Mathys Tel’s situation in Munich. The Italian club’s sporting director Angelo Mariano Fabiani is a fan of the Frenchman and could pounce on the opportunity to bring him to Rome should he become available on loan in January or in the summer [@Corriere]One would have to wonder if a club with fans that are prone to racist behavior is the best place for Tel.
