16 You will hear two friends talking about shopping. What did the boy buy yesterday?
Female: I’m glad I got the school book I wanted yesterday.
Boy: Yes, my mum had already bought that and a new magazine for me. Everyone thinks the
gloves I got yesterday are cool, too.
Girl: The T-shirt I liked was really colourful!
Boy: But nearly one hundred pounds!
Girl: I know. Let’s buy some snacks now. We can eat them during break at school.
17 You will hear a teacher talking to a student called Lyn. Why didn’t Lyn come to school
yesterday?
Lyn: Mr Jones, could I ask you about the tennis match on Saturday?
Mr Jones: Of course, Lyn. You missed class yesterday. Do you feel better?
Lyn: Oh, I wasn’t ill. We were camping in Switzerland for a week and our flight was cancelled
on Sunday. We flew on Monday instead.
Mr Jones: Oh, OK. So, next Saturday’s really important. If we win, we’ll win the championship!
18 You will hear a boy talking about surfing. How did he learn to surf?
Boy: When I started surfing, I went to the beach with friends and tried and tried, but I didn’t
seem to improve. Then, I saw that someone was organising lessons, but they were on Fridays
when I play football. In the end, I found a website with a famous surfer showing people the best
way to learn. That’s what helped me.
19 You will hear a girl talking about her day at school. Which subject did she like best?
Girl: School was great today. First, we had a lesson about oceans and the average water
temperature in each one. But the most interesting lesson was about bees – how they live together
and how they develop from eggs to adults. In another lesson, we read part of a novel and, for
homework, we can write either a story or an article.
20 You will hear two brothers talking about last night. Why did they both sleep badly?
Jake: I’m tired this morning. I didn’t sleep well.
Nathan: Neither did I. Let’s ask Dad to turn down the heating in our room.
Jake: Yes, that was the problem. I can hear him outside. I thinking he’s packing the car so that
we are ready to go camping.
Nathan: I can hear Mum playing music downstairs. Let’s ask her about the heating.
Jake: Yeah.

Learn to make your every single effort that it must bring you success!!

"When people achieve the score they want in their IELTS Writing test, they often credit it to one thing - 'having a good structure.'

However, when people don't get the score they need, they often blame it on one thing - 'not having a good structure.'

In reality, I often see two students using the SAME structure and getting very different results when I check their essays.

Having a good structure is just one part of the puzzle. It's not a magic solution.

Having a good structure is not enough to help you:

1. Understand the question properly.
2. Think of relevant ideas.
3. Clearly and coherently express your message throughout the essay.
4. Fully develop and support your main ideas.
5. PROVIDE A CLEAR ANSWER to the question.
6. Use vocabulary correctly.
7. Use language accurately...

...and many other things you need to do well in order to get above a 7.

Without ALL those things above, you will find it hard to achieve one of the highest scores.

Instead of only focusing on finding some magical structure, it's better to work on all the important things, and you will see better results.

It’s important to take action. Taking action is much better than just passively consuming information!"

Betty Botter bought a bit of butter. "But," she said, "the butter's bitter. If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter. But, a bit of better butter will make my batter better." So, she bought a bit of butter, better than her bitter butter. And she put it in her batter. And the batter was not bitter.

Will you try it?

Let's speak English

In the year twenty-four,
Let's open a linguistic door.
A resolution to explore,
"Let's speak English" we implore.

Words like rivers, flowing free,
Uniting minds from sea to sea.
In twenty-four, a linguistic key,
Unlocking bonds for you and me.

Expressions rich, diverse delight,
A global language taking flight.
In every region, day and night,
Let's speak English, pure and bright.

A bridge across cultures wide,
Where understanding shall abide.
In twenty-four, let English guide,
Connections strengthened, side by side.

So raise your voice, let words unfold,
In the language of stories untold.
Let's speak English, a tale to be told,
In the new year, a unity to hold.

Bu yerda berilgan reading savollariga javoblar.

Izohlari ham beilgan, ozgina fikrlab tahlil qilish kerak.

Ex. 7
1 E 2 B
In the first paragraph we are told that the club is a place where people can talk. In the second paragraph the improved information system should make the club more efficient.

A is wrong because although writers give speeches at the club, nothing suggests that they are all members.

C is wrong as it is not stated that the club had an enthusiastic reception.

D is wrong because although requests will be dealt with better, there is no suggestion that there is a wish for more requests.

F is wrong as the writer merely trusts that some (not all) of their aims have been achieved.

Ex. 8
1A 2E
In the first sentence we are told that the number of passengers using this service is slightly above expectation, which means that rather, or a few, more people are using the service. There is a possibility of more flights as Suter says that they may consider increasing frequency.

B is wrong because it is not certain that new flights will be introduced.

C is wrong because although the evening flights have done well, there may still have been some empty seats.

D is wrong because, although we are told that it is hoped more people will use this flight, the article does not say that very few are using the flight.

F is wrong as there are only slightly more people using the flight, not far (= a lot) more.

1 The Deansgate Literary Club was established several years ago with the aim of establishing a centre where people who love books could listen to leading authors and personalities meet people who share their enthusiasm and talk about latest publications in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We trust that we have fulfilled at least some of these aims.

The idiom “To break the bank” typically means to spend a large amount of money, often more than one can afford or more than is reasonable. It implies excessive spending or financial strain. Additionally, it can refer to a situation where a particular cost or expense is exceptionally high or exceeds expectations. The origin of this phrase comes from gambling, where it signifies that someone has won more than the banker (house) can pay. So, when someone says, “Buying that luxury car would break the bank,” they mean it would be financially burdensome or unaffordable. 🏦💸
