AMIWRONG for refusing to let my mom move into my home after retiring?
I (32F) bought a two bedroom house last year that perfectly suits my needs. My mom (60F) is now retiring and wants to move from my childhood home to my city. She asked if she could have my extra bedroom to move in with me instead of getting her own condo. I love my mom, but declined - I don't want to give up my guest room and personal space. My mom got upset, arguing family should live together. She wants to be closer to me and I'm being unreasonable by not letting her move in. I suggested helping her look for an affordable 55+ community instead. But my mom won't entertain any other housing ideas. She insists I have plenty of room and should want her to live with me in retirement. She says I'm abandoning her in her time of need. I feel guilty, but I'm not ready to have my mom move in at 32 when I finally have my own place. My brother thinks I'm selfish for not supporting mom's plan. Beloved burger chain closing only store in this big city due to crime
The notoriety of the Bay Area as a burgeoning area for crime has been growing in recent years — and its the main reason a beloved food chain is leaving the city of Oakland. In-N-Out, the California-based fast food restaurant with a massive cult following, announced last week that it's closing its lone Oakland location due to crime in the city.Related: Hyundai, Kia vehicles face troubling reality after unfortunate trend Customers of the East Oakland branch have reportedly been subject to "car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies," according to In-N-Out chief operating officer Denny Warnick in a statement provided to the San Francisco Chronicle. He said that the company has tried to "create safer conditions," but ultimately decided to close by March 24. He said that the workers will be transferred to another location. In-N-Out has nearly 400 locations across California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Colorado.Related: Burger King embraces controversial tech for new Whopper offer According the report by the Chronicle, there have been over 1,300 reported police incidents in the vicinity of the location of the In-N-Out branch since 2019, which is more than any other place in the city of Oakland. Nearly 1,200 of those police incidents were car break-ins, which has been a fast-growing safety hazard in the city. A 2019 FBI report said that Oakland is the number one city in America in terms of motor vehicle theft per person. The whole Bay Area has struggled so much with this issue that the Chronicle has already made a Car Break-in tracker to track the most common areas with break-ins and break-in attempts since 2018. Edahn Golan, diamond industry analyst and Managing Partner at Tenoris, joined TheStreet to discuss how market factors continue to shape the dynamics of the diamond industry.Full Video Transcript Below: J.D. DURKIN: What are some of the biggest challenges currently facing the diamond industry? EDAHN GOLAN: First of all, we are looking at a loss of market share, which is to my feeling is a temporary stage. One of the biggest competitors is travel. Travel is expensive. And sometimes people will still prefer to buy jewelry over traveling. I don't think it's a big alternative. It's not an important alternative. But at the end of the day, I think people will still prefer traveling even if they need to spend less on travel. And the other element is how do you present to the market a product that now has two very different characteristics. One is natural, which will remain higher priced with everything that goes with it. So it's say luxury and something that we can strive for. And on the other hand, there's something that is in theory just the same, but it has a depreciating value. But buying a bigger size is very easy. And that sort of, it's a clash that is a clash that will need to be resolved in a very clear way in the mind of consumers or you will lose them.
