Daily Decade 2.0
Series 11, Episode 9
Today's Mystery:
The Crown of Thorns
Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of St. John Xrysostom, offers requiem prayers for the repose of the soul of Betty.
Today's reflection is on the Crowning with Thorns, and what separates the Roman executioners from the Jewish persecutors of Our Lord, exemplified by the Roman mockery and humiliation of Christ. The Romans reveal their ignorance of God through their actions, just as all who worship God but do not live according to His Word and Law reveal an ignorance that mocks Christ's kingly title.
God love you!

So, I'm not posting this to get women angry with me, but here's some pitfalls in female spirituality that the spiritual director to St. Gemma Galgani wrote over 100 years ago. (He's up for canonization.) Priests today get cheered when they preach against male sins from the pulpit, but only a truly charitable priest will delve into tackling feminism. Yet it takes even MORE courage to attempt to help traditional Catholic women who get attached to their own private revelations. I post the following quote not out of uncharity to women or out of a rah-rah spiritual masculinity. It's to help guide you all. Fr. Germanus wrote over 100 years ago about women NOT afflicted with the heresy of modernism: "It is well known how attached women are to their own judgment in matters of piety, and how difficult it is to get them to alter their minds, even when a wise director judges them at fault. From material and external things perhaps they will keep their hearts more or less detached, but it is not so with spiritual matters. They do not know and do not wish to believe in any but themselves. How much more strikingly is this the case when it is a question of supernatural things, as of supposed visions, locutions and the like! The confessor must give in to these deluded creatures on all points, thinking as they think, praising their highly favored state, etc. Otherwise, complaints, grumbling, and often declared hostility. So great is the pride of the poor daughter of Eve! The contrary however was manifest in our Gemma..."

Hail Mary, Full of Sorrows
#prayer favored by Pope Pius IX
Hail Mary, full of sorrows, the Crucified is with thee: tearful art thou amongst women, and tearful is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of the Crucified, grant tears to us crucifiers of thy Son, now and at the hour of our death.
Ave Maria doloribus plena, Crucifixus tecum: lacrymabilis te in mulieribus, et lacrymabilis fructus ventris tui, Jesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Crucifixi: lacrymas impertire nobis crucifixoribus Filii tui, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae.
Pope Pius IX desired this prayer to be said with contrite heart in honour of the most holy Virgin in her desolation.
Holiness inspires holiness. Happy White Pill Sunday!

According to legend, she was the daughter of a Roman civil servant who was secretly Christian, and raised his daughter in the faith. She was actively participating in piety acts when one day the jurist Ulpian captured her and tried to force her to accept paganism at an Apollo temple. She suffered beatings and different tortures and, she never denied the Faith nor ceased praying.
She was beheaded with a sword ca. 226 AD.

Today's Mystery:
The Scourging
Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of Pope St. Fabian and S. Sebastian, offers a Requiem prayer for Willie Soliven.
Today's reflection is on the Scourging, and the way in which Christ gives Himself entirely to His suffering in that moment of the Passion, and what it means for us as Christians to live, work, suffer, and rejoice in the moment, and to live moment to moment in our struggle with our own flesh and tendency to sin.
God love you!

Читать полностью…Children, let us hold fast our discipline, and let us not be careless. For in it the Lord is our fellow-worker, as it is written, "to all that choose the good, God worketh with them for good." But to avoid being heedless, it is good to consider the word of the Apostle, "I die daily." For if we too live as though dying daily, we shall not sin. And the meaning of that saying is, that as we rise day by day we should think that we shall not abide till evening; and again, when about to lie down to sleep, we should think that we shall not rise up. For our life is naturally uncertain, and Providence allots it to us daily. But thus ordering our daily life, we shall neither fall into sin, nor have a lust for anything, nor cherish wrath against any, nor shall we heap up treasure upon earth.
St. Anthony of Egypt, quoted in Athanasius of Alexandria, The Life of St. Anthony XIX

Charlemagne got the finest missionaries, mainly Anglo Saxons from England to evangelise the Saxons and once again did not show any half measures but only total warfare.
A decree was issued that any man who observed pagan practice or disturbed the kings peace was to be put to death.
He showed no compromise but only sheer devotion for the faith and hatred for falsehood, and finally in the Summer of 779 Eastphaila, Engria and Westphalia were conquered, divided into missionary districts and Frankish countships.
Charlemagne himself assisted with mass baptisms of the Saxon populace, for a few years there was finally peace in the realm.
(5/7)
Charlemagne decided it was time for a second campaign, and in 775 he and his legions of the Lord marched again through Westphalia crossing the Rhine and “fell upon Saxony with all the forces of the realm”.
He crushed the Saxons defending the Fort of Sigiburg, crossed Engria and crushed the sodomite faggot pagans there and arrived in Eastphalia defeating the fagans once again. The Saxon leader Hessi converted to the one true Apostolic faith after these defeats and all of Saxony was under Frankish control aside from Nordalbingia for now.
There was one small incident where the treacherous bastards used disguises and guerilla tactics to sneak into a Frankish camp using Frankish dress and kill the Frankish soldiers in their sleep, but thankfully the awake Franks were able to defeat them. Charlemagne did not let this go unpunished, and chased down the Saxons killing as much as possible.
Each day pray a decade of the rosary for the dying in most need of repentance. 🙏

Today's Mystery:
Pentecost
Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, offers prayers for the mother and brother of Alexander (whose name I forgot when I was recording - mea culpa!). We beg the intercession of Ss. Benedict and Scholastica and Ss. Francis and Claire, both pairs of siblings who became great saints through mutual encouragement.
Today's reflection is on the three descents of the Holy Ghost in the Scriptures, and the way God gave His young Church the tools she needed to complete her mission - fortitude and hierarchy - and how He gives each of us the tools we need to complete the vocation He has appointed for us.
God love you!

Today's Mystery:
The Nativity
Today's Daily Decade, on the Feast of St. Raymond of Pennafort, offers prayers for the good health of the grandmother of listener LGG. We beg the intercession of St. Luke the Evangelist, that all of her ailments of soul and body be healed perfectly by the Divine Physician.
Today's reflection continues our thread on the Joyful Mysteries being linked to the Old Testament, and considers the parallel of Christ and Moses, both deliverers of a nation God intended to be holy - can we, the people of Christ, live up to this Divine Intent in the way our predecessors, the people of Moses, did not?
God love you!

The last traditional calendar before China adopted the Gregorian calendar at the beginning of the 20th century stems from the Qing dynasty, a calendar created and developed by a German Jesuit priests.
Known as the Chongzhen calendar, advisor to the emperor Johann Adam Schall von Bell and Johann Schreck, both missionaries from Germany, were tasked with working out a new calendar based on Western astronomical arithmetic.
von Bell submitted the calendar to the Shunzhi Emperor early in the Qing dynasty, which was issued by the government as the seasonal calendar in 1644.
This calendar, also known as the Han calendar, was the official Chinese calendar until 1912 when it was replaced by the Gregorian calendar.
However, the Han calendar remains culturally essential.
“For example, most of the traditional festivals, such as Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, occur on new moons or full moons. The Han calendar, as an element of traditional culture, has much cultural and nationalistic sentiment invested in it. The Han calendar is still used in the more traditional Chinese households around the world to pick ‘auspicious dates’ for important events such as weddings, funerals, and business deals. A special calendar is used for this purpose, called the Imperial Calendar, which contains auspicious activities, times, and directions for each day.”
In 1992, Taiwan issued a commemorative stamp for the 400th anniversary of Schall von Bell’s birth, saying “with all his accomplishments his place in Chinese history is secure.”
In 2013, Chinese CCTV published a documentary on Schall von Bell, as part of its series Biographies, saying that the Chongzhen calendar edited by Schall von Bell is still in use today.

Today's Mystery:
The Ascension
Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter at Rome, offers prayers for LP and BP, who are struggling in their marriage, that they be spared the destruction brought on by the sin of divorce. We beg the intercession both of St. Monica of Thagaste and Ss. Joachim and Anna, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, for God's peace and charity.
Today's reflection is likewise on peace, and the cure Christ offers us to the natural state of dissension and conflict in the hearts of Fallen Mankind: the unity and hierarchy of His order exemplified by the Early Church, which we can yet all imitate in our lives.
God love you!

(6/7)
The Saxons led by Widukind began to launch assaults against the Frankish fortress of Eresberg which they succeeded in taking while Charlemagne was down in Italy again.
The Saxons attempted to attack the fortress of Sysborg, but by the Medieval accounts two shields appeared in the sky over the fortress which caused the Saxon disbelievers to flee in terror, some even dying from being impaled by their own spears! Indeed the disbelievers were crushed for the LORD is a man of war, almighty is His name! (Exodus 15:3)
Charlemagne arrived back and the Saxons were brought back to heel, Widukind ran to the Danes for safety and Charlemagne began his reforms in Saxony.
He created a new encampment at Karlstadt and in the year 777, a blessed number for a blessed year he called a National Diet, Saxony was fully annexed into the Frankish Kingdom and many Saxons were baptised.

Today's Mystery:
The Finding of Christ in the Temple
Today's Daily Decade, for the Feast of St. Finian of Clonard, offers prayers for Raju and Lucia, both of whom are outside the Church but married to faithful and believing spouses. We beg the intercession of St. Monica of Thagaste on behalf of these souls and their wife (Shirley) and husband (Alex).
Today's reflection is about seeking Christ, and where He is to be found - not in the world, not even in the good parts of the world, but in the place of perfection which has been set aside specifically for Him to dwell, in His Church and in the Christian who lives the life of Christ.
God love you!
