«Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, ²“Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him.” ³When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; ⁴and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. ⁵They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it is written by the prophet»Matthew 2:1-5 (RSVCE)

«And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?»
Luke 1:43 (RSVCE)
"Therefore, because the holy virgin bore in the flesh God who was united hypostatically to the flesh, for this reason we call her the Mother of God, not as if the nature of the Word had the beginning of its existence from the flesh (for 'the Word was in the beginning and the Word was God and the Word was with God' and made the ages and is co-eternal with the Father and the author of all things), but because, as we have said, she united the human hypostatically to herself and underwent a birth according to the flesh from her womb."

St. Sylvester was the first Pope of Rome to reign entirely under the liberty of the Church, guaranteed by the Edict of Milan in 313. Sylvester - a priest of Rome and the son of one Rufinus, according to the Liber pontificalis - was elected to the See of Peter in 314. During Sylvester’s reign, the city began its transition into its Christian era, with the construction of the great Constantinian basilicas - including the Basilica of St. Peter on the Vatican Hill, which was erected above a temple dedicated to Apollo, to mark the burial place of the first Bishop of Rome.

Happy New Catholic Year in the Gregorian calendar! 🗓️ This calendar, introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, is now the most widely used worldwide. It realigned time with astronomical realities and brought Easter closer to the vernal equinox. 🌍 As we enter this new year, may it be filled with blessings and a deepening of our faith in Christ. 🙏🕊️✨

One year ago (31 Dec 2022) at this hour, the soul of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI reposed in the Lord.
He was known for his meekness, piety, and theological studies; he published many works as a private theologian including Introduction to Christianity (1968), The Infancy of Jesus (2012) and his best-selling book Jesus of Nazareth (2007).
He's deeply missed to this day by millions of Catholics worldwide.
Say a prayer for Pope Benedict's soul🙏🏼
Don't talk to me of female beauty, rather virtues of her soul.
A beautiful woman who has not decorated herself with virtue is like a painted coffin.

Today we venerate and celebrate King St. David, second King of Israel
«So David reigned over all Israel; and he administered justice and equity to all his people».1 Chronicles 18:14 (RSVCE)
David was King of Israel for forty years, from 1013 to 973 BC. He was seventy years old when he died. Despite his human frailty, his will was notably attached to the love and service and praise of God. It was King David who wrote the one hundred and fifty Psalms which the Catholic Church uses in every part of its prayer, in the Mass and in the Divine Office. King David has been called “a man after God’s own Heart.”

℟. pray for us
About Aristotle - Edward Feser 🔗:
As I wrote fifteen years ago in The Last Superstition: “How significant is Aristotle? Well, I wouldn't want to exaggerate, so let me put it this way: Abandoning Aristotelianism, as the founders of modern philosophy did, was the single greatest mistake ever made in the entire history of Western thought. More than any other intellectual factor - there are other, non-intellectual factors too, of course, and some are more important - this abandonment has contributed to the civilizational crisis through which the West has been living for several centuries, and which has accelerated massively in the last century or so...
It was the logical development of Aristotelian ideas (primarily by his medieval Scholastic admirers) that provided the most powerful and systematic intellectual foundation for traditional Western religion and morality - and for that matter, for science, morality, politics, and theology in general - that has ever existed. And it was the pulling of that first Aristotelian thread that has led to the unraveling of the once-seamless garment of Western thought” (pp. 51-52).
Today the Church venerates and celebrates the Holy Innocents, the children killed by Herod at the birth of Our Lord.
«Now after they [the Magi] had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called my son”. When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men».Matthew 2:13-16 (RSVCE)
