they don't need holoports for only internal use. holoports are only needed for hosting happs publicly.

holochain apps run self hosted when installed on the devices of the users. so the company could just build a happ for their own needs, install it on all the PCs of their employees and voilà. everyone with the happ has access, it's always self hosted and doesn't require additional devices.

yes, that is certainly one benefit of using Holochain Apps internally. To always have the data spread across multiple devices and also to never have all the data on one device.

I was thinking of a scenario where I have a database for example. I don't want to to be ransomwared. Lets says it's sensitive data. I think to myself, lets use Holochain to shard it and encrypt it. Then if the organisation do suffer a cyber attack and the threat actors try to encrypt my sensitive data then they can't because it's sharded?

Scenario. Could a company get 100 Holoports (example number) to install in their organization for internal data only and select only those Holoports as their hosts therefore keeping the data in house? I understand it is 5 HP per KYC at the minute or they could run Holochain Launcher but in general in the future, is this possible?
