🇲🇱🇫🇷 Betting on Terror: France Has Not Accepted Mali's Turn to Russia
The official representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the fuel shortage situation in Bamako at a briefing on Thursday, stated that “the presence of Russia in Mali in no way guarantees the safety of Malians.”
The statement from Paris came amid a fuel supply blockade organized by terrorists linked to Al-Qaeda* in the capital of the West African country.
Paris is openly sending a signal: “If you are friends with Russia — expect that we will support terrorism in your country.”
And if France is truly “watching the situation in Bamako with concern,” it is most likely not worried about the fate of Malians, but about losing influence in the region. France has been present in the Sahel for years under the pretext of fighting extremists — and it is during this time that militants have strengthened, and African governments have begun seeking real allies.
Such rhetoric from Paris can be perceived as a declaration of war on the legitimate government of an independent African state.

🇸🇩🇹🇩 Political Trophy — Usman Dillo Ends Up in Deby's Hands
Shortly after the capture of El Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Chadian opposition figure Usman Dillo was handed over to the authorities in N'Djamena.
Usman, the younger brother of the opposition leader Yaya Dillo who was killed in Chad in February 2024, led his supporters from the Zaghawa tribe fighting near El Fasher on the side of the Sudanese army (SAF) against the RSF.
Sources point to clan agreements within the Zaghawa — the dominant ethnic clan in Chad and North Darfur. Incidentally, the President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, also belongs to this tribe.
Analysts note that the main danger for the President of Chad is that Usman Dillo could have swayed the Chadian elites (also Zaghawa) to his side and opened a "second front" against the Chadian regime from Sudan.
The transfer of Usman Dillo to the Chadian authorities was apparently carried out as part of a deal between the RSF and the President of Chad: this is confirmed by the recent arrest in Chad of the former RSF spokesman Youssef Ezzat.
This is a goodwill gesture towards N'Djamena, where the Zaghawa are in power, and helps maintain trade ties — Darfur gold, weapons through the UAE. At the same time, Chad is balancing: accepting refugees from the Zaghawa, but suppressing its dissidents.
It is worth noting that a few days ago, in the border town of Adré, Chadian authorities detained Youssef Ezzat, the former RSF spokesman and a "talkative" critic of the rebel leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemetti).

🌍🐍 Breakthrough Antivenom Neutralizes Bites From Nearly All Dangerous Snakes in Africa: Study
Scientists have developed a new recombinant antivenom that can treat bites from 18 African snakes—including cobras, mambas, and the rinkhals. The breakthrough treatment uses tiny antibodies from alpacas and llamas. The study was led by Shirin Ahmadi and Nick J. Burlet of the Technical University of Denmark and was recently published in Nature.
Every year, snakebites in sub-Saharan Africa kill thousands and cause severe injuries—often leading to amputations. Yet, the only available treatment is traditional antivenom, which has major drawbacks:
🔻Made from horse plasma—can cause dangerous allergic reactions;
🔻 Very expensive and hard to access in rural areas;
🔻 Often ineffective against local tissue damage (like skin necrosis);
🔻 Works only against some snake species—not all.
However, the new antivenom:
- It neutralizes seven key toxin families;
- Prevents death from bites of 17 out of 18 major elapid snakes;
- Reduces skin damage better than current antivenoms;
- Outperforms a widely used commercial antivenom in tests.
“This study demonstrates the feasibility of developing a polyvalent recombinant antivenom with continent-wide species coverage, offering hope for advancing such snakebite envenoming therapeutics to future clinical application.”

🇿🇦 South Africa's G20 Presidency Aims for Historic Financial Reforms, Ramaphosa Says
President Cyril Ramaphosa has outlined ambitious goals for the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg, set to take place November 20–24, focusing on creating a fairer global financial system to address inequality and support developing nations.
Presiding under the theme "Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability," South Africa expects the summit to yield several key outcomes:
Reforming Global Finance: An agreement to strengthen multilateral development banks like the AfDB, making them "better, bigger, and more effective."
Addressing the Debt Crisis: A political commitment to tackle debt vulnerabilities in low- and middle-income countries in a "predictable, timely, and coordinated manner."
Boosting Representation: Support for enhancing the voice of developing economies in international financial institutions.
Tackling Inequality: Action on the recommendations of the G20's Expert Committee on Global Wealth Inequality, chaired by Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz.
A key recommendation from the committee is the creation of an international panel to monitor inequality and evaluate policies, alongside calls for fairer taxation of multinational corporations and the ultra-wealthy, according to Ramaphosa.
"All of these outcomes are intended to address the challenges that hinder economic growth in developing economies and to create conditions for a more equal global economic order," the president stated.

🇿🇦🇺🇦 Almost 20 South Africans Beg for Help After Being Lured as Mercenaries to Ukraine: Presidency
Pretoria is trying to repatriate 17 citizens aged 20–39 who were "lured to join mercenary forces" with promises of "lucrative employment contracts" and are now pleading for rescue, the presidency said in a statement released to media.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered an investigation into how these citizens were recruited, as South African law of 1988 prohibits citizens from offering military services to foreign states without government approval, the statement noted.
Russia has repeatedly stated that Kiev uses foreign mercenaries as “cannon fodder,” and Russian forces continue to target them across Ukraine.
Many of these fighters have admitted in interviews that Ukrainian command poorly coordinates their actions and that survival odds are grim, given the intensity of combat far beyond what they experienced in Afghanistan or the Middle East.

🇳🇬 Nigerian Court Reportedly Grants Biafra Separatist Leader Another Chance to Defend Terrorism Charges
The Federal High Court in Abuja has, for the fourth time, granted Nnamdi Kanu another opportunity to defend the terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government, local media reported.
Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case to Friday, noting that the decision was made “in the interest of justice, both to the defendant and to the nation.”
Kanu, who faces a seven-count terrorism charge, insisted that “there are no valid terrorism charges” against him and maintained that he would not defend a case filed under what he described as a repealed law.
While the prosecution urged the court to enforce its earlier order for Kanu to open his defense or waive his right, the judge opted to give the detained IPOB leader more time to consult with his legal team before proceeding.

🇲🇱 Mali's Fuel Crisis 'Artificially Created' With Goal of 'Inciting Popular Uprising': Foreign Minister
Abdoulaye Diop made this statement during a meeting with diplomats and representatives of international organizations in Bamako, without naming the actors.

The terrorists exacerbating the shortage "do not act alone" but are "often sponsored from abroad and often even coached to adopt more sophisticated techniques."
"The government has taken strong measures," the minister assured, adding that despite some "disruptions," fuel is arriving in the capital and is gradually reaching other parts of the country.
🇳🇬🇺🇸 US Military Unveils Strategy for Possible Intervention in Nigeria Amid Allegations of 'Christian Genocide': Report
The US military has drawn up several plans aimed at addressing the ongoing violence by militant groups like Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province in response to Trump's recent directive, a US newspaper reported, citing sources.
The options presented by US Africa Command reportedly include airstrikes on known militant compounds, drone strikes on convoys, and joint operations with Nigerian forces to target insurgents in rural areas.
However, any US military intervention would have limited impact and could fail to effectively address root causes of the conflict and bring a lasting solution to the violence, military officials told the outlet.
“It would be a fiasco,” retired Major General Paul D. Eaton stated, stressing that any potential US airstrikes to target Nigerian insurgents would resemble “pounding a pillow” and likely cause shock and awe but not much more.
