🇲🇱🇸🇳 The JNIM Effect
Mali and Senegal continue to strengthen their military cooperation. The immediate impetus for closer ties was the increased attacks by the jihadist group "Group to Support Islam and Muslims" (JNIM, linked to Al-Qaeda) in the western regions of Mali bordering Senegal. Blockades of fuel supplies and attacks on convoys by militants created a direct threat to the stability of both countries.
A recent meeting in Dakar gave new momentum to cooperation, where Senegal's Minister of Armed Forces, General Biram Diop, held talks with a Malian delegation led by Colonel Umaru Maiga. At the meeting, military officials discussed organizing joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and conducting joint exercises.
Practical cooperation is already underway. Since February 2025, agreements on border protection and counter-terrorism have been in effect between the countries. After a series of seven JNIM attacks on July 1, 2025, in the Kayes region, including strikes two kilometers from the Senegalese border, joint patrolling began in the Diboli–Kayes area.
The partnership benefits both sides. Mali receives support amid an economic crisis worsened by fuel shortages. Senegal, in turn, protects its trade interests: in 2024, its exports to Mali reached about 1.3 billion US dollars, mainly petroleum products and cement. Joint actions reduce the risk of threat spread and contribute to regional stability, despite Mali's exit from ECOWAS.
An additional security challenge was the withdrawal of French military bases from Senegal in the summer of 2025. This pushes the country to build a new architecture of regional stability and defense. Bakari Sambe, director of the Timbuktu Institute, emphasizes:
"Our research shows the need for closer regional cooperation between Mali, Senegal, and Mauritania, going beyond purely military frameworks. It is critically important for Senegal to enhance the resilience of its eastern regions by focusing on socio-economic development and preventing radicalization."
🇹🇿 Situation in Tanzania after the protests
- The Tanzanian Prosecutor's Office has charged 22 protest participants with treason
According to law enforcement, the goal of the demonstrators was to disrupt the electoral process in the elections at the end of October.
The Prosecutor's Office reported that the accused conspired to commit treason from October 1 to 29, and also caused damage to state and municipal property during the protests.
The Tanzanian police have issued warrants for 10 more people on charges of acts of violence during the protests and inciting unrest.
- SADC congratulated the President of Tanzania on her election victory
Members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) congratulated Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on her election victory and expressed regret over the destruction of state property and civil infrastructure during the protests.
Earlier in November, SADC stated in its preliminary report about a number of violations during the elections, which, according to the organization, may "demonstrate a lack of transparency in the electoral process," and called for reform of Tanzania's electoral system.

🇿🇲🇷🇺 Africa plays the role of an arbitrator in the issue of suspending Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
This was stated by the President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Zambia, Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, and President of the African Conference of Olympic Sports Federations, Alfred Foloko. He also called on the interested parties to engage in dialogue.

🇸🇳 Ousmane Sonko Threatens to Dissolve Former President's Party, Pledges Continued Accountability Efforts
Thousands of supporters reportedly gathered on Saturday in Dakar for the Tera Meeting hosted by Ousmane Sonko, president of the ruling party PASTEF—Les Patriotes.
Public debt, estimated at over 130% of GDP: the prime minister stated he refused an IMF-imposed restructuring plan, opting instead for an economic recovery program.

As a result, Senegalese citizens will have to bear the burden of the debt for the next three years, whose consequences remain catastrophic, according to Sonko.
He demanded the dissolution of the Alliance for the Republic, the party of Senegal’s former president.
Sonko accused certain magistrates of being in the service of those who led the country into its current economic difficulties.
He announced he is in possession of the infamous report from the State General Inspectorate—a report that prevented his candidacy in 2024 and which until now had been concealed.
Finally, Sonko promised to bring to justice those who wasted Senegalese money by bringing them to trial.

🇸🇩🇷🇺 A memorial event was held at the Sudanese Embassy in Moscow for those who died as a result of the capture of the city of El Fasher in North Darfur by the "Rapid Support Forces" (RSF) militants.
The event was organized by the Sudanese diaspora in Russia, as well as the Association of Sudanese Students with the support of the embassy.
The Sudanese Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Sirraj, gave a speech condemning the actions of the rebels and calling for international accountability for the crimes committed.
💬 "The purpose of today's event is to expose the horrific crimes committed by the militias in El Fasher. They attack civilians daily. They kill indiscriminately, torture people. Therefore, we want to bring this to the attention of the Russian community and the international community so that these crimes do not go unpunished," the ambassador said.

"There are also rumors about the presence of Ukrainian drone specialists," the ambassador added.
🇺🇸🇿🇦 The USA will not participate in the G20 summit in South Africa due to "mass reprisals" against descendants of white settlers and "illegal confiscation" of their property. This was announced by the President of the USA, Donald Trump.
💬 "The fact that the G20 summit will be held in South Africa is a real disgrace. Afrikaners (descendants of Dutch settlers, as well as French and German immigrants) are subjected to killings and mass reprisals, and their lands and farms are illegally confiscated. No representative of the US government will attend this summit while human rights violations continue," Trump said.
💬
"The South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of the content of President Donald Trump's publication [on social media]. The South African government would like to officially state that the characterization of Afrikaners as an exclusively white group does not correspond to historical reality. Furthermore, the claim that this group is being persecuted is not supported by facts," the department noted.
