⚡️ Commentary by Aide to the President Yury Ushakov following a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump (December 29, 2025)

💬 Colleagues,

Since it is December 29 today, and the New Year is just round the corner, an interesting – from a political point of view too – detail can be mentioned: in the outgoing year, President Vladimir Putin held 17 contacts with US representatives.

This includes a visit to Alaska, ten telephone conversations with Donald Trump and six meetings with his special envoys. What does this mean? You can draw your own conclusions. Now to the telephone conversation.

As agreed earlier, another telephone conversation took place today between the presidents of Russia and the United States. Donald Trump and his key advisers who were present during the call provided a detailed briefing on the main outcomes of yesterday’s talks with the Ukrainian delegation at Mar-a-Lago.

In their presentation, that is, the American presentation, during these talks the US side took an assertive stance in promoting the idea that Kiev needs to take real steps towards the final settlement of the conflict instead of using demands for a temporary ceasefire as cover. Zelensky was advised to not even try to secure a respite for his armed forces but instead focus on achieving a comprehensive agreement that would lead to the actual end to the armed conflict.

Donald Trump informed [the President of Russia] about certain results achieved by Zelensky’s team precisely in this direction, but which nevertheless, in our assessment, still leave the Kiev authorities room for various interpretations in order to evade fulfilment of their commitments.

❗️ And of course, Vladimir Putin drew attention of his counterpart Donald Trump to the fact that practically immediately after what the US side considers a successful round of talks at Mar-a-Lago, the Kiev regime carried out a terrorist attack involving a barrage of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, an attack on the state residence of the President of Russia in the Novgorod Region.

The Russian Side clearly stated that such reckless terrorist acts will, of course, not go unanswered and will meet with the most serious response.

The US President was shocked by this information, literally outraged. He said that he could not even imagine such irrational actions. And, as was stated, this will undoubtedly affect the approaches of the United States in the context of working with Zelensky, to whom the current administration, as Donald Trump himself said, did not, thankfully, give Tomahawks.

Vladimir Putin emphasised that the Russian side intends to continue close and productive work with its US partners in searching for ways to achieve peace. However, naturally, with regard to a number of agreements reached at the previous stage and the newly outlined solutions, Russia’s position will be revised. This was stated very clearly, and the Americans should treat this with understanding. Since Kiev is using the state terrorism, the Russian side cannot act otherwise.

Such was the nature of the conversation, at the end of which both presidents, in a very friendly manner, agreed to maintain dialogue onwards.

Thank you very much.

⚡️ Comment by Aide to the President Yury Ushakov following the telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump (December 28, 2025)

💬 Yury Ushakov: President Vladimir Putin has just finished his telephone conversation with President of the United States Donald Trump.

The conversation took place at the US President’s initiative. The US President wished to discuss the current developments in the context of the Ukrainian conflict and its potential resolution with the President of Russia.

President Trump wished to discuss these matters before his in-person meeting with Zelensky later today at Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

Logically, at the beginning of the conversation that continued for 1 hour and 15 minutes, the presidents exchanged warm Christmas and New Year greetings and, naturally, wished happiness to both nations.

The rest of the conversation was similarly friendly, good-natured and business-like, with mutual interest in making progress towards a long-term resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.

Donald Trump paid close attention to Russia’s assessment of the realistic prospects for an agreement, and to our President’s detailed rationale for the fundamental importance of continuing to build upon the Russian-American understandings established during the Anchorage summit and the numerous subsequent contacts between the two administrations.

Most significantly, the Russian and US presidents share a broadly similar view that the temporary ceasefire proposed by Ukraine and Europe – under the pretext of preparing for a referendum or other such measures – would merely prolong the conflict and risk a renewed escalation on the battlefield. <...>

Donald Trump repeatedly emphasised the necessity of ending the war as swiftly as possible and spoke of the impressive prospects for economic cooperation between the United States and both Russia and Ukraine that would open up once the hostilities are over.

He acknowledged that the Ukrainian crisis has been his most formidable foreign policy challenge, stating that he now saw renewed proof of Russia’s commitment to a political and diplomatic settlement. It is with this understanding that he intends to frame his forthcoming negotiations with Zelensky.

It is particularly noteworthy that during today’s conversation, the Russian President acceded to the American proposal to continue efforts to resolve the Ukrainian situation through two specially established working groups. One will address various security dimensions, and the other, economic matters. <...>

❗️ Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed to speak again by telephone promptly after the US President’s meeting with the Ukrainian delegation at Mar-a-Lago this evening.

🇷🇺 Key foreign policy outcomes of 2025

#Outcomes2025

In 2025, Russia made a significant contribution to strengthening the foundations of a just multipolar world order based on international law and cooperation between countries. Decisive steps were taken to protect the country’s vital national interests on the external front, with a focus on the CIS countries and Eurasia.

This year marked the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Alongside its like-minded international partners, Russia reaffirmed its commitment to inviolability of the post-war world order and its foundation in the form of the full body of principles enshrined in the UN Charter understood as an indivisible and interdependent whole.

• In the Commonwealth of Independent States, 2025 was declared the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight against Nazism.

• A solemn General Assembly session to commemorate WWII victims was held at Russia’s initiative at the New York UN headquarters in May. An annual resolution on combatting glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism co-sponsored by 44 countries was adopted in December.

• Comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction between Russia and China received a strong boost thanks to successful leader diplomacy by President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping and reciprocal visits to Moscow in May and to Beijing in September.

• After the new US administration came to the White House in January, political dialogue with Washington at the top levels was restored. During the Russia-US summit in Anchorage on August 15, understandings were reached that could form the basis for resolving the Ukraine conflict by addressing its underlying causes, including military threats to Russia created by NATO expansion and policies undermining the rights of the Russian and Russian-speaking populations.

• Relations with North Korea took on a new dimension, with the DPRK providing allied assistance in liberating the Kursk Region from Ukrainian militants and contributing significantly to creating proper conditions for the region’s return to peaceful life, in accordance with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.

• A new stage in relations with Iran was marked by the signing in January and entry into force in October of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.

Tangible results were achieved in supporting integration processes in Eurasia.

• Within the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), priority tasks were identified for implementing the collective security strategy, steps were taken to strengthen the combat readiness of collective forces, and an anti-narcotics strategy through 2030 was approved.

• On December 14, at the initiative of Russia and other member states of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter, the UN General Assembly proclaimed the International Day for the Elimination of Colonialism in all its forms, and on December 4, the International Day for Combatting Unilateral Coercive Measures.

• Measures taken to protect Orthodox Christianity and other Russian religions and denominations created favourable conditions for the resettlement of foreign nationals, including from countries with unfriendly governments, to our country under the framework of the Presidential Executive Order On Providing Humanitarian Support to Individuals Sharing Traditional Russian Spiritual and Moral Values.

Efforts to combat the spread of untruthful information about Russia in foreign printed and social media intensified, including through cooperation with our international partners within the International Fact-Checking Network.

❗️ The firm defence of national interests in relations with the countries whose governments undertake hostile anti-Russian actions forced them to recognise the impossibility of inflicting on Russia a “strategic defeat on the battlefield” and led them to adopt a concept of an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Ukrainian theatre of operations.

We underscore the importance of expanding the participation of Russian companies in Africa, including through cooperation focused on establishing and strengthening manufacturing and industrial capabilities.

We reaffirm our determination to enhance interaction in the fuel and energy industries and in the field of critical raw minerals essential for just and balanced energy transition, particularly on the African continent.

🗓 On December 18, building on the UN General Assembly resolution 80/106 “International Day against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations”, adopted on December 5 at the initiative of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter with Russia’s participation, a plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly was held to mark the 65th anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

Our country played a key role in supporting the national liberation movements of colonial peoples. The Victory of the Soviet Union over German Nazism and Japanese militarism inspired patriotic forces resisting colonial oppression and triggered a powerful surge of liberation movements worldwide. The dedicated efforts of Soviet diplomacy, aimed at dismantling the colonial system, ensured the adoption on December 14, 1960, during the 15th Session of the UN General Assembly, of resolution 1514, which enshrined this historic Declaration.

The document became one of the most significant achievements of the UN. At the time, it freed nearly one third of the world’s population from colonial domination and led to the emergence of dozens of new states across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania.

Our country provided newly independent states with political and material support, helped them defend their sovereignty, and assisted in rebuilding national economies undermined by decades of colonial exploitation. We actively contributed to the restoration of infrastructure, the establishment of state institutions, education systems and training of national personnel, and delivered substantial humanitarian assistance.

❗️ The colonial era, which is considered de jure concluded with the adoption of the Declaration, de facto remains unresolved. 17 territories worldwide still lack sovereignty or remain directly dependent on administering metropolitan states. Even after the formal liberation of dependent territories, former colonial powers have not abandoned practices of exploitation, continuing to draw resources from previously subordinated countries to sustain their own development and claims to global dominance. This includes the persistence of unequal relations, through which natural, economic, intellectual and other resources are extracted under various pretexts.

Today, with Russia's active support, a broad front of Global Majority states is taking shape, determined to put an end to the remnants of the shameful colonial era that impede the emergence of a fair and equitable multipolar global architecture. An important role in this effort is played by the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter.

🤝 Russia will continue, together with like-minded partners, to consolidate efforts aimed at overcoming diktat and ensuring the right of peoples to independent development, grounded in cultural and civilisational identity and traditional values.

🎙 Statement by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the expanded meeting of Russia's Ministry of Defence Board (December 17, 2025, Moscow)

Key points:

2025 has become an important milestone in addressing the objectives of the special military operation. The Russian Armed Forces have secured and firmly maintain the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact.

• In 2025, more than 300 settlements have already been liberated, including major cities that had been turned by the adversary into fortified strongholds.

🇷🇺🇰🇵 I would also like to note our North Korean combat comrades. By decision of Comrade Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong-un, they were dispatched to take part in the liberation of the Kursk region and, shoulder to shoulder with Russian servicemen, fought the enemy with valour and courage. They took part in large-scale and extremely complex efforts to clear mines from the liberated Kursk region.

• Successful tests have been conducted of the Burevestnik strategic cruise missile with unlimited range and the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle. Thanks to the use of a nuclear power unit, these systems will remain unique and unmatched for a long time, ensuring strategic parity, Russia’s security and its global standing for decades to come. We will continue working on these systems – refining, upgrading and improving them – but they already exist. By the end of 2025, an intermediate-range missile system equipped with the Oreshnik hypersonic missile will be placed on combat duty.

❗️ Russia has always, even in the most difficult circumstances, as long as there was even the slightest chance – sought diplomatic solutions to contradictions and conflicts. Responsibility for the fact that these chances were not used lies entirely with those who believed that it was possible to speak to us in the language of force.

• We stand for building mutually beneficial and equal cooperation with the US and European states, and for the formation of a unified security system across the entire Eurasian region. We welcome the progress that has emerged in the dialogue with the new US Administration. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the current leadership of most European countries.

• We are fully aware that in any international environment, our Armed Forces remain the key guarantor of Russia’s sovereignty and independence, its security and future, and of strategic parity. We must work consistently to strengthen them.

• Immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union, it seemed to us that we would very quickly become part of the so-called civilized family of European nations. Instead, Russia continued to be pressed from all sides – increasingly so. Virtually everything concerning Russia was decided from a position of force. They would pat us on the shoulder and invite us to various events, yet when it came to their interests vis-à-vis Russia, the West pushed them through by force, including by military means.

• President Trump says that if he had been President at the time, the conflict in Ukraine would not have happened. Perhaps that is so, because the previous US Administration deliberately steered the events towards an armed conflict.

👉 The objectives of the special military operation will undoubtedly be achieved. We would prefer to do so and to eliminate the root causes of the conflict through diplomatic means. However, if the opposing side and its foreign patrons refuse to engage in a substantive dialogue, Russia will secure the liberation of its historical lands by military means. Efforts to establish and expand a security buffer zone will continue on a systematic basis.

⚡️ On the adoption of a UNGA resolution combating the glorification of Nazism

At the December 15 plenary session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, a resolution titled “Combating the Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and Other Practices That Contribute to Fueling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance” was adopted. The resolution was spearheaded by the Russian Federation.

The resolution garnered the support of 44 co-sponsoring states from various global regions.

It was endorsed by 119 votes, opposed by 51 delegations, with 10 countries abstaining.

This resolution on combating the glorification of Nazism lays the groundwork for countering the falsification of history and efforts to revise the outcomes of the Second World War on an international platform.

It condemns the glorification of the Nazi movement and former SS members, including Waffen-SS units, deemed criminal by the Nuremberg Trials. The resolution expresses profound outrage at the rehabilitation of Hitler’s collaborators and attempts to elevate them to the status of national heroes, manifesting in torchlight processions, street renaming, and the erection of memorials.

The document articulates serious concern over the ongoing campaign against monuments dedicated to anti-Nazi and anti-fascist fighters and liberating soldiers in some countries, which has increasingly assumed the guise of state policy. Simultaneously, it expresses strong indignation at efforts by certain nations to prohibit symbols associated with Victory over Nazism.

The resolution particularly underscores that such actions desecrate the memory of the countless victims of Nazism, negatively impacting younger generations and being utterly incompatible with the obligations of UN member states under the Organisation’s Charter.

Furthermore, the resolution upholds the principle of inadmissibility of any ideology promoting the superiority of specific population groups based on racial, ethnic, religious affiliations, or similar criteria. This is particularly relevant in light of the persistent rise in Islamophobia, Christianophobia, Afro-phobia, Arabophobia, Russophobia, and anti-Semitism, notably in the collective West.

It is emblematic that this very political bloc, year after year, seeks to obstruct the adoption of the Russian initiative, resorting to unscrupulous procedural tactics, and consistently votes against international efforts to combat aggressive manifestations of racism and xenophobia. Of particular concern are the positions of Germany, Italy, and Japan, as former Axis members. Their indulgence of perilous trends raises questions about the sincerity of their contrition for crimes committed during the Second World War.

❗️The voting results clearly demonstrate that the global majority stands in solidarity with Russia’s approaches to combating the glorification of Nazism.

This is especially symbolic in the year commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory over Nazism in the Second World War, the founding of the United Nations, and the establishment of the Nuremberg Trials.

☝️ Moscow is convinced that the adoption of this thematic resolution will significantly contribute to the eradication of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance.

⚡️ Statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov (Moscow, December 29, 2025)

💬 On the night of December 28-29, the Kiev regime launched a terrorist attack using 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the state residence of the President of the Russian Federation in the Novgorod Region. All the UAVs were destroyed by the air defence systems of the Russian Armed Forces.

No casualties or damage were reported.

Notably, the attack was carried out during the intensive talks to settle the Ukrainian conflict between Russia and the US.

Such reckless actions will not go unanswered. The Armed Forces of Russia have already selected targets and the timing for retaliatory strikes.

Despite this attack, we have no intention to withdraw from the negotiations with the US.

❗️ However, given the utmost degeneration of the criminal Kiev regime, which has shifted to a policy of state terrorism, Russia’s negotiating position will be reviewed.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with TASS News Agency (December 28, 2025)

Key points

• Russia appreciates efforts by President of the United States Donald Trump and his team to achieve a peace settlement. We are committed to continuing to work with the American negotiators to devise lasting agreements for addressing the conflict’s root causes.

We see that Vladimir Zelensky’s regime and his European curators are not ready to engage in constructive talks. <...> Meanwhile, almost all European countries with few exceptions have been pumping the Kiev regime full of money and weapons.

• There has been a thorough effort to review the updated version of the US National Security Strategy, which is quite understandable. Its central tenets must be supported by what the US does, but even today it offers a new vision. Experts believe that this could be indicative of an effort in Washington to reconsider its international standing. <...> 👉 Speaking of Russia, one thing worth mentioning is the fact that the strategy does not contain any calls to subject our country to a system-wide containment and deterrence policy.

It may be the first time for the United States when it publicly questioned NATO’s long-standing commitment to expansionism, even if it stopped short of undertaking not to expand NATO. <...> Some of the ideas set forth in this strategy are not at odds with efforts to promote dialogue between Russia and the United States. That said, we will make our final decisions only by looking at what the US administration does on the international stage.

• The EU has been seeking to dismantle mechanisms for working with Russia. It all started somewhere around 2014, when the ruling elites in most European countries started <...> inciting Russia-hating and militarist sentiment among their people.

• In 2025, we witnessed unprecedented events with Israel carrying out a direct act of aggression against Iran together with the United States, which targeted facilities related to the Iranian nuclear programme with missile and bomb strikes despite the fact that these facilities benefit from IAEA’s guarantees. <...> We would like to note that the Iranians have been exercising maximum restraint and composure by responding to all the provocations and blackmail on behalf of the West by stating their commitment to dialogue and resolving the lingering differences by political means.

We have shared our assessment of the situation in the Gaza Strip many times. We welcomed international mediation efforts. Thanks to these efforts the hot phase of the bloodshed that lasted since October 2023 was stopped and the mass starvation of the Palestinians prevented. <...>

The main thing here is to remedy the historical injustice and provide for establishing a viable Palestinian state, which would coexist with Israel.

• Taiwan is currently used as a tool of military-strategic deterrence against the PRC. This is also a matter of pursing vested interests. <...> We believe that the Taiwan problem is an internal affair of the PRC.

• Whether leaders like Ursula von der Leyen, Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron and the like have reached a point of no return is hard to say. We do see that so far, the European war party has been investing its political capital in inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, and is ready to go the whole nine yards. <...> Not only they do not care about the Ukrainians but they do not care about their people either.

This is the only way to explain the fact that there is still talk in Europe about sending military forces to Ukraine as part of the so-called coalition of the willing. We have said many times that in this case our Armed Forces would view them as a legitimate target.

❗️My messages for European politicians who seem to have problems getting to grips with this fact – I hope they get to read this interview – is to repeat one more time 👉 there is no need to be afraid of Russia attacking anyone. However, should anyone consider attacking Russia, they would face a devastating blow.

Russian Embassy in Australia

Our attention was drawn to an article by Alan Howe published in The Australian on 22 December. We did not intend to overshadow the Christmas holidays for our Australian audience, but can no longer remain silent, as the publication is steeped in Russophobia, unfounded accusations and falsehoods.

In a conversation with the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Sviatoslav Shevchuk, the author disregards several critically important issues and material facts related to the political and religious situation in Ukraine that in this context are unquestionably matters of public interest.

The first one is the deliberate actions by the neo-Nazi Kiev regime to ban and destroy the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in violation of the right to freedom of religion, human rights and international law. It includes criminal prosecution and physical abuse of the clergy, illegal takeovers of churches, persecution of millions of believers affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) and Russia.

Secondly, Mr Howe fails to mention that during World War II the UGCC, which has a complex history, actively sent its priests to the 14th Waffen SS “Galicia” Division and openly supported Ukrainian Nazis from the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN). Yet he features a photo of their present-day spiritual heirs from the neo-Nazi formation Azov (a terrorist organisation banned in Russia). The information about the origins and ideological typology of Ukrainian Nazism will help you determine for yourself whether Nazism truly does not exist in Ukraine, as Mr Howe and Mr Shevchuk claim.

Thirdly, the big lie is the so-called “hit list”, on which the unnamed Russian secret services allegedly keep Mr Shevchuk “and other heads of churches in Ukraine”. How can “the humble Ukrainian church leader” know so much about Russian secret services and their plans? Perhaps he confused the mythical “hit list” with the Ukrainian public website “Mirotvorets” (the Peacekeeper), which contains hundreds of names and personal data of people (including two-year-old children) whom the neo-Nazi Kiev regime considers its mortal enemies (some of them have already been assassinated by the regime).

There are many more outright slanderous and provocative statements concerning Russia and the ROC, which we do not consider ethical to reproduce here.

Beware: this article is a piece of low propaganda and irresponsible journalism.

Vladimir Putin made a comment on the summit held in Brussels to discuss the matter of confiscating Russia's frozen assets

It is difficult to take decisions related to the robbery of someone else's assets. But there will be graver consequences for those who might endeavour that. This will not just be a blow to their image, but this will subvert all the confidence in the euro area, since many countries store their foreign reserves in the eurozone. <...>

Apart from image-related losses, there will be direct financial losses related to the contemporary financial architecture.

And the main thing is no matter what they steal, sooner or later they will have to give it back.

Most importantly, we will go to courts to protect our interests. We will do our utmost to find a jurisdiction that will be independent from the political context.

🇺🇳 24 years ago, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) was established.

Its mandate includes developing best practices to address challenges related to global urbanization, facilitating experience exchange, and promoting new technologies in urban management and development. The Programme’s headquarters is located in Nairobi, Kenya.

Russia has been productively cooperating with #UNHabitat since the establishment in 1977 of its predecessor, the UN Centre for Human Settlements.

On 21 December 2001, the UN General Assembly adopted a landmark resolution upgrading the Centre to the status of a full-fledged UN operational agency.

We support UN-Habitat as a key structure within the UN system for ensuring specialised intergovernmental cooperation.

As an active member of its governing bodies and one of the leading contributors to its budget, Russia consistently advocates for enhancing the Programme’s effectiveness in line with its mandate, unlocking its full potential, and strengthening its sustainability, transparency and financial stability.

Following the elections to the Executive Board, Russia was re-elected by acclamation to this governing body for the 2025–2029 term.

Within UN-Habitat’s programme activities, we attach primary importance to upholding the interests of the Global South and advancing a positive, unifying agenda.

🥳 We congratulate the Secretariat and Member States on this anniversary and wish them continued success!

🎙 President of Russia Vladimir Putin answered questions from journalists and the people of Russia at the 2025 Year-End Conference (December 19, 2025)

Read in full

Key points:

• In 2025, Russia's GDP growth stood at 1%. However, over the past three years, cumulative growth reached 9.7%, which is a more representative figure. By comparison, growth in the eurozone over the same period amounted to 3.1%. Slower growth in Russia is a deliberate choice – the price paid for preserving economic quality, stability, and sound macroeconomic fundamentals.

• Attempts in Brussels to seize Russian assets should not be called “theft” but robbery, as these actions are carried out openly. This robbery has not been carried out because the consequences could be extremely serious for the perpetrators – not only for their reputation, but also for the foundations of the global financial system. All assets taken will ultimately have to be returned. Russia will defend its interests, primarily through legal channels.

• Claims that Russia is rejecting peace initiatives are completely baseless. Moscow has openly stated its readiness to make compromises. At this stage, the initiative now lies fully with the West – above all, with the Kiev regime and its European sponsors. Russia stands ready for negotiations and a peaceful resolution.

Efforts to build a new security architecture in Europe remain highly relevant. Even before the collapse of the USSR, proposals were made in Europe for a security system without NATO expansion, involving the US, Eastern Europe, and Russia – without exclusions or threats. Russia is not demanding anything extraordinary and does not challenge states’ right to choose their means of defence, but such choices must not threaten others, including Russia.

Europe’s ruling elites are trying to hide years of economic and social policy failures with the myth of a “hostile Russia”. Where is Europe’s so-called "green agenda", when coal plants are being reopened and nuclear power stations being brought back? Today’s situation was created by Western politicians themselves, who continue to escalate tensions.

• Donald Trump was previously accused of "colluding with Russia" during the elections, but the allegations proved baseless – there was no collusion or interference by Russia. At the same time, European political elites intervened directly, openly, and unambiguously. Some in Europe still hope that the 2026 US midterm elections might alter the political balance and enable increased pressure on President Trump.

• The combined GDP of Russia and European countries in purchasing power parity terms would exceed that of the US. By combining and complementing their capabilities, the sides could prosper instead of confronting each other. Russia is not fighting Europe – Europe is fighting Russia through Ukrainian nationalists. Moscow is ready to cease hostilities immediately, provided Russia’s security is guaranteed in the medium- and long-term.

• I hope that a blockade of the Kaliningrad Region never happens. But if threats of this kind are created, they will be eliminated. Everyone must clearly understand that such actions would lead to an unprecedented escalation, push the conflict to a completely different level, and could expand it up to a large-scale armed confrontation.

• Aggressive statements by NATO leadership raise serious concerns. In the updated US National Security Strategy, Russia is not designated as an enemy, despite the fact that the US is NATO’s key player, founder, and main sponsor. Yet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte speaks of preparing for war with Russia – contradicting the position of NATO’s leading country and pointing to a lack of professional responsibility among a number of Western leaders.

• We are ready to work with the UK, Europe as a whole, and the US – but on equal terms and with mutual respect. ☝️ Should this point ever be reached, it will benefit everyone.

#NoStatuteOfLimitations

🗓 On December 18, 1943, the #KharkovTrial concluded — the first public trial of Nazi war criminals in the Soviet Union.

Held long before the Nuremberg Trials, its purpose was to show the world the horrible consequences of the Nazi occupation of Soviet territories during #WW2.

***

Years before the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, on November 2, 1942, the Soviet Government established the Extraordinary State Commission for the establishment and investigation of the crimes of the Nazi invaders and their accomplices and the damage they caused to our country. The Commission's long-term mission was to document the atrocities by fascists and their collaborators on the territory of our Motherland.

In less than a year, thanks to the laborious efforts of Soviet investigative and national security agencies, extensive evidence was compiled. It formed the basis for open trials of Nazis under Soviet jurisdiction.

The first was the Kharkov Trial — a military tribunal of the 4th Ukrainian Front, held from December 15 to 19, 1943, following the city’s liberation by the Red Army in August.

Four Nazi criminals stood accused, including an SS officer and a Gestapo driver who was a collaborator, former Red Army soldier who had betrayed his Motherland. Their guilt was proven by numerous witness accounts and forensic examination. They had participated in the brutal murder of Soviet civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, in the city of #Kharkov and the Kharkov Region.

Those butchers used Gaswagen — gas vans — to suffocate victims, including children, with carbon monoxide. In Kharkov alone, the Nazis killed more than 26'000 Soviet citizens by gassing, shooting, and burning. These exterminations were carried out by special Gestapo Sonderkommandos on orders from the German command.

All defendants were sentenced to death by hanging. On December 19, 1943, the sentence of the 4th Ukrainian Front Military Tribunal was carried out in a public square in Kharkov.

❗️ The Kharkov Trial marked the beginning of a series of proceedings against Nazi criminals. These trials revealed the true face of Nazism to the world and meticulously documented its crimes, laying bare this ideology’s profoundly anti-human character.

⚡️ Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation:

The Press Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) reports that, according to intelligence received by the SVR, Britain’s top leadership is desperately pressing Brussels, in contacts with EU officials, to take a decision to steal the Russian funds frozen at the Belgian depository Euroclear.

Beyond financing Ukraine’s continued war effort, London is pursuing another objective. 👇

The British hope that if these funds do not end up in Washington’s hands, the White House will lose interest in pursuing a “flawed deal” with Moscow. This, in their view, would make it possible to use Kiev against Russia “to the last Ukrainian” without any obstacles.

Senior British officials are conveying false information to Brussels-based EU bureaucrats, claiming that Donald Trump is allegedly seeking a compromise with Moscow in pursuit of financial gain.

It is asserted that Russia supposedly promised the White House to channel its sovereign assets immobilized in Europe into joint projects. This, they say, serves as an important incentive for Trump to promote a Russia-agreed peace initiative on Ukraine.

London is urging the European Commission to justify the theft of Russian funds by exploiting “loopholes” in the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, as well as by invoking the onset of emergency circumstances.

Opposition within the EU is proposed to be disregarded.

Another lever of pressure on the White House, according to the British officials’ plan, is to be blackmailing the Americans with the prospect of Europe moving closer to China. It has been agreed that London, Paris and Berlin will send signals to Washington about their readiness to drift towards Beijing if the US continues to push a Ukraine deal unacceptable to Europeans.

It is well known that lies, plunder and piracy once formed the foundations of the British Empire’s power. Although the former greatness of the UK has long faded into history, appropriation of others’ property and deception remain the guiding principles of the so-called London gentlemen.

👉 However, times have changed irrevocably, and London must realize that crimes will carry consequences.

⚡️ Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's statement on Remembrance Day of Journalists who Perished in the Line of Duty (December 15, 2025)

💬 December 15 in Russia is dedicated to remembering journalists who lost their lives while performing their professional duties.

Established in 1991 at the initiative of the Russian Union of Journalists, this day pays tribute to the courage and professionalism of correspondents, reporters, photographers and camera operators whose lives were tragically cut short while carrying out editorial assignments – whether on the front line of armed conflict, while covering street unrest, at the epicentre of disasters and natural calamities, or as a result of terrorist attacks committed against them.

Journalism places high demands on those who choose to devote their lives to this profession. It consistently ranks among the most dangerous professions – both in wartime and in peacetime. The dedication, selflessness, courage, readiness to take risks and capacity for self-sacrifice shown by those for whom journalism has become a true calling command admiration and profound respect.

▪️ Sadly, 2025 has brought new and irreparable losses. Journalists Alexander Martemyanov, Alexander Fedorchak, Andrey Panov, Anna Prokofieva, Nikita Goldin and Ivan Zuev were killed in the line of duty at the hands of militants of the Kiev regime.

Other names will forever remain in our hearts – Igor Kornelyuk, Anton Voloshin, Andrey Stenin, Anatoly Klyan, Daria Dugina, Oleg Klokov, Maxim Fomin (Vladlen Tatarsky), Rostislav Zhuravlev, Boris Maksudov, Semyon Yeryomin, Valery Kozhin, Nikita Tsisagi, Yulia Kuznetsova, and many others.

As before, we are convinced that responsibility for the murders of journalists and war correspondents must be shared by the Kiev regime – emboldened by impunity – together with its Western patrons, as well as by various multilateral structures and human rights institutions that deliberately remain silent about these bloody crimes, thereby encouraging Ukrainian neo-Nazis to commit further atrocities.

❗️ Unlike the silent Western human rights organizations, we will not turn a blind eye to this vicious and immoral practice and will insist that authorized international officials fulfil their responsibilities in good faith. All those responsible for these crimes will be identified and held accountable.

Today, representatives of Russian media outlets risk their well-being, health and even their lives beyond combat zones, becoming targets of unprecedented pressure by the authorities of the “collective West” and its ideological satellites. To understand the scale and variety of forms of repression against Russian media professionals, we recommend consulting the regularly updated special section “Foreign reprisals against Russian journalists and media” on the MFA Russia website.

We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen media professionals who fulfilled their duty to the very end, and we mourn together with them. May their memory be eternal.

#InMemoriam
