This move comes as international criticism of Israel intensifies over its military operations in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of more than 67,000 Palestinians and the displacement of over 90% of the population. United Nations agencies and human rights organizations have described Israel’s actions as “genocide".

According to senior officials, around 200 U.S. troops are being sent to Israel to support a new civil-military coordination center operated by U.S. Central Command. The center is aimed at facilitating humanitarian aid and logistical support in the Gaza Strip.
