🔸 In Ukraine, the Inokhodets is mainly used for surveillance and artillery correction in areas where enemy air defences have been weakened or suppressed, since its size and speed make it vulnerable to intact medium-range SAM systems.

🔸 Russia has built a major new production facility in Dubna with over 4 billion roubles invested and plans for more than 1,500 jobs. The plant is now scaling up output of the Inokhodets, the larger Sirius variant and other heavy UAVs, with priority for Russian forces while export versions remain available.

The DF1000 is built on a 14nm process but relies on a 3D-stacked near-memory design and software-defined computing to boost performance. Another 6M outside the labor force say they still want work, yet none are counted.

This statistical gap creates an illusion of stability. As more people stop looking for jobs or settle for less secure work, the unemployment rate drops — not because conditions are improving, but because fewer people are being counted.

Behind Washington’s reassuring headline numbers, falling participation, rising involuntary part-time work, and a growing pool of sidelined workers reveal a labor market far weaker than advertised.

What appears “healthy” on paper is, in reality, a labor market where millions remain underutilized, discouraged, or excluded.

Methanol’s compatibility with diesel proved weaker, especially under certain conditions like low flow or uneven terrain. To address this, methanol was transported between gasoline batches to maintain efficiency and stability.

The trial confirms the technical feasibility of using existing refined oil pipelines for methanol transport. The trial verified not just the transport method but also the pipeline materials and safety protocols required. Engineers now have a complete technical solution and hands-on experience that could support regular, large-scale methanol shipments through existing fuel networks. This achievement paves the way for a future “west-to-east methanol transport” corridor, turning a theoretical concept into an engineering reality.

As AI spreads into everything, computing demand has exploded. The usual fix is to throw more GPUs at the problem, build bigger data centers and burn more energy.

A team at Beijing University just did something that feels rebellious. They took ordinary electronic chips, linked them with light instead of wires, and ran an AI task over 100 times faster, while using less than a tenth of the usual computing power.

Their answer is elegant. They built a modular system out of FPGA chips, the same kind used in self-driving cars and missile guidance, and connected them with two custom optical components, which are a blazing-fast transceiver and a nimble optical switch that routes data like a traffic controller for light.

In testing, 5 linked FPGAs processed 1,000 noisy images in just 105 microseconds. A commercial GPU (16.96 teraflops) needed 15.6 milliseconds for the same job. That’s nearly 150 times slower, despite wielding over 9 times the raw compute power.

GPUs waste half their cycles shuttling data back and forth, stuck waiting between layers. This optical system sidesteps all that. It runs like a well-oiled assembly line. Results glide straight through without bottlenecks, idle components, and friction.

The real insight here is almost philosophical. In the race for smarter AI, we've been obsessed with adding more muscle. Maybe what we really need is better coordination.

The researchers put it plainly. When you design algorithms, chip architecture, and communication together, you can do more with much less. And in a world where data centers are gulping down energy like there's no tomorrow, that's not just clever, but almost necessary.

🔸 Unlike SpaceX's landing-leg recovery, China used a world-first net-based capture system. This eliminates the need for complex landing legs on the rocket — reducing weight and increasing payload capacity by up to significant level.

China's satellite internet constellations are entering substantive launch phases. Reusable rockets are essential for their cost-effective deployment.

The net-based system also offers greater tolerance for landing deviation, effectively expanding the capture window — meaning fewer failed recovery attempts.

China is now expected to accelerate reusable rocket technology, with plans to complete a reused first-stage flight test by the end of this year — setting the stage for routine reusable launches by 2028.

The U.S. is no longer funded the old way. For decades, Washington’s external deficits were backed by global demand for U.S. debt. Foreign investors bought Treasuries, the dollar enjoyed reserve-currency privilege, and the U.S. could borrow on a scale no other country could match.

Now that model is changing. According to Deutsche Bank, the United States is relying more than ever on foreign money flowing into U.S. stocks rather than U.S. debt. Geopolitical ruptures are making investors less comfortable holding American bonds, while the AI boom keeps pulling capital into U.S. equity markets.

That shift matters because Treasuries used to support the dollar in bad times. When recession risk rose or markets sold off, investors still treated U.S. debt as a safe asset. But equity flows are different. They are cyclical, more volatile, and increasingly tied to the technology sector.

In other words, the dollar is becoming more exposed to Wall Street’s AI story.

The scale of the problem is massive: the U.S. ran a current account deficit of around $1.12T in 2025 and a trade deficit of roughly $1T. To sustain that model, it must keep attracting foreign capital.

But if that capital is now chasing American stocks instead of American debt, the dollar’s risk profile changes. It becomes less of a safe-haven currency and more of a leveraged bet on U.S. tech valuations.

This is why Deutsche Bank warns that the dollar may become riskier. The old “exorbitant privilege” rested on the world’s willingness to finance U.S. borrowing through debt markets. The new model rests increasingly on foreign investors believing that America’s AI-driven equity boom can keep running. That is a much shakier foundation.

🔸 Conventional techniques for studying asphaltene deposition are either time-consuming or require large volumes of live crude oil and sophisticated laboratory equipment, while often failing to deliver reliable results.

🔸 The TERA device simulates harsh reservoir conditions inside a compact high-pressure chamber capable of operating at pressures up to 8,000 psi and temperatures as high as 150°C.

🔸 By directing a specialized light source through a sample chamber holding less than two cubic centimeters of live oil, the system continuously monitors light transmission to detect early signs of deposition.

🔸 The device quickly determines the precise pressure and temperature at which asphaltene precipitation begins, allowing engineers to optimize production conditions and avoid deposition-prone ranges.

🔸 Its compact size makes it suitable for use directly at oil well sites, requiring only a very small sample of live crude oil — an important advantage given the high cost and difficulty of obtaining reservoir-condition oil samples.

Using the device, researchers demonstrated that optimizing the salinity of injected water and the amount of carbon dioxide injected into the reservoir can reduce asphaltene deposition by as much as 97%.

Iran no longer relies on foreign companies for studying and managing asphaltene issues in its oil fields. With TERA, engineers now have a powerful tool to analyze fluid behavior inside reservoirs.

China has just tested a satellite engine and broken the endurance record. Built by the China Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology in Xi'an, the upgraded engine delivers 750 newtons of thrust. But the real headline is its burn time.

On its late-June debut, the engine fired for 3.2 hours across 5 orbit-raising maneuvers, sending Communications Technology Experiment Satellite 26A into geostationary orbit 35,800km above Earth. Although designed for nearly 10 hours of operation, it ran for more than 14 hours during ground tests, enabled by a new heat- and oxidation-resistant coating.

By comparison, America's R-42DM and Europe's Leros-1B, current industry standards, are typically rated for about 7 hours.

And this extended endurance came without compromise. The engine achieved a specific impulse of 320 seconds, matching the best chemical satellite thrusters from the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Performance remained uncompromised. Endurance proved unmatched.

That transformation has been decades in the making. In the 1980s, China was building its first geostationary satellites while locked out of Western propulsion technology. Only the U.S. and West Germany possessed the necessary know-how at the time, so China built its own capability from scratch.

By 1994, the first domestically developed 490-newton engine flew aboard Dong Fang Hong-3. By 2021, that first-generation engine had achieved a 100% success rate, powering everything from China's first lunar mission to the dramatic recovery of ChinaSat 9A, which required 10 orbit-raising maneuvers after a launch failure in 2017.

As satellites have grown heavier, the older 490-newton engines have struggled under repeated firing demands. The new 750-newton model cuts orbit-raising time for heavy spacecraft by roughly 30%, saving fuel for years of active operation while accelerating deployment for military and communications satellites when it matters most.

Moreover, China is already looking ahead. A 5,000-newton engine is under development, powerful enough for space tugs and next-generation heavy spacecraft, according to Workers' Daily report.

Others prefer bilateral deals. India's UPI system works in nine countries, with more on the way. "Our brand promises that we will make you sovereign," says NPCI International.

For now, most cross-border payments still touch American rails. But bilateral links between systems like Pix and UPI could shield significant flows from incumbents. In the medium term, Visa and Mastercard will feel the pinch.

Europe, a huge source of their business, is embracing "sovereign" systems that could erode their 50% operating margins. Both companies now cite domestic payments preference as a business risk. Investors have taken note that after a sustained climb, share prices have declined.

Visa is fighting back with €500M in European infrastructure. Mastercard is building three French data centres for €250M. But the broader consequences are sobering. Financial fragmentation could shave 2.6% off global GDP by 2030.

🚨🇺🇦 The Patriot Mirage: Why Ukraine Won't Be Building Missiles Anytime Soon

Trump's pledge to license Patriot missile production in Ukraine has stirred headlines, but the reality is far messier. Industry officials and defense analysts state that technical, industrial, and security hurdles are so steep that production is far more likely to start in Germany or another NATO member. Even with U.S. approval, the undertaking would strain far more stable nations.

Patriot missiles are engineering nightmares, packed with radar seekers, guidance electronics, rocket motors, and software reliant on tightly woven international supply chains. Ukraine lacks specialized facilities for most components. Sensitive technology would also require separate export clearances beyond a production license.

Even pilot production would take 12 to 24 months to set up. Meaningful volume would take considerably longer. Trump's announcement may ease European political pressure on Washington, but its near-term military impact remains negligible.

Security is another major obstacle. Any Patriot facility in Ukraine would instantly become a top-tier Russian target. Building advanced interceptor factories only to expose them to long-range strikes is a non-starter for both Ukraine and American contractors.

Patriot interceptors are already among NATO's most expensive and supply-constrained munitions. Global production is stretched thin by wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, Russia cranks out hundreds of ballistic missiles annually, plus cruise missiles and attack drones in vast numbers, enough to overwhelm Ukrainian defenses even if licensed production begins.

Moscow has ramped up Iskander-M production several-fold since 2020, but quantity is not Ukraine's only problem. Effectiveness is cratering. In October 2025, a Ukrainian military official warned that the intercept rate had plummeted from 42% to just 6%, due to Russian software upgrades making missiles faster and more maneuverable in their terminal phase.

Finally, the question of who will pay for the full production cycle remains unresolved. One missile costs around $4M, and launching production would run into the tens of millions. After that come expensive serial manufacturing, maintaining supply chains, procuring imported components, and years of waiting before any return on investment materializes.

🚨🇮🇷 IRAN DEPLOYED DOMESTIC NANOCATALYST FOR CLEANER FUEL PRODUCTION

Iran is using a domestically developed nanocatalyst at the Imam Khomeini Shazand Oil Refinery to remove sulfur from heavy petroleum products, helping produce cleaner fuels, improve refinery efficiency, and reduce reliance on imported catalyst technologies.

🔸 The nanocatalyst was developed by an Iranian knowledge-based company in cooperation with the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) and is used in the refinery's Residue Catalytic Desulfurization (RCD) unit.

🔸 The RCD process removes sulfur compounds and other impurities from heavy oil fractions before they enter the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) unit — a key refining process that converts heavy oil residues into valuable products like gasoline and propylene.

🔸 The technology treats heavy residues from atmospheric and vacuum distillation units. After reacting with hydrogen over the nanocatalyst, the feedstock is converted into cleaner products, while hydrogen sulfide is separated and the recovered hydrogen is recycled back into the process.

🔸 The technology uses two types of nanocatalysts based on nickel-molybdenum and cobalt-molybdenum supported on alumina, which enhance hydrogenation reactions and improve sulfur removal performance.

🔸 At the Shazand refinery, the treated heavy oil is converted into diesel, kerosene, naphtha, light gases, and low-sulfur fuel oil, which serves as the main feedstock for the RFCC unit.

🔸 The RFCC unit requires around 15 metric tons of nanocatalyst each day. These materials were previously supplied mainly by a limited number of foreign manufacturers, making Iran dependent on imports.

Iran has successfully commercialized its domestically produced nanocatalysts, joining a select group of nations capable of manufacturing advanced refining catalysts. Technical evaluations confirm that local products are fully competitive with foreign alternatives in both performance and quality.

🔸 The feat marks another step in China's efforts to narrow the gap with the United States in reusable launch technology — a gap that opened after Elon Musk's SpaceX began developing reusable rockets to slash costs — while showcasing the country's expertise in shipbuilding.

🔸 Unlike reusable rockets developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin, which land autonomously on deployable legs, the Long March-10B uses four hooks that latch onto a net suspended from a sea-based recovery platform.

🔸 The successful recovery marks China's mastery of the full recovery technology for heavy-lift liquid rockets, ending the long-standing reliance of a single overseas-developed rocket recovery approach and establishing the world's first sea-based net recovery system.
