US Prepares to Use World's Most Powerful Non-Nuclear Bomb — Axios
- The 30-ton GBU-57A/B MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) - the so-called "bunker buster".
This is a super-heavy precision bomb capable of penetrating hundreds of meters of fortified underground facilities.
- The main target is the Iranian site in Fordow, built into a mountain range. This is exactly what MOP was designed for.
- The US may use B-2 Spirit stealth bombers to deliver the munition.
- The use of MOP would be an unprecedented case.
“To destroy Fordow, it would take at least two bombs hitting exactly the same point,” said American military analyst Robert Pape.
- "It is technically possible, and the US Air Force is capable of doing it. But in real combat conditions, it has never happened," he added.
They would have to hit the same spot several time.
