The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
Ecclesiastes 9:17
“All culture arises out of religion. When religious faith decays, culture must decline, though often seeming to flourish for a space after the religion which has nourished it has sunk into disbelief. But neither can religion subsist if severed from a healthy culture; no cultured person should remain indifferent to erosion of apprehension of the transcendent.”
~Russell Kirk
•Youth is the period of preparation for marriage; the purity of young people is the guarantee of future happy marriages. Even in their thoughts they must regard themselves and those whom they meet as sacred, and the power that God meant to be used through the Sacrament of Matrimony as a splendid and holy thing

"Love isn't something natural. Rather it requires discipline, concentration, patience, faith, and the overcoming of narcissism. It isn't a feeling, it is a practice."
"Love is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision."
~Erich Fromm
I believe for the majority of mainstream Americans, seeing a bunch of happy, engaged kids out and about brings them joy. The values of family and children resonates deeply. We often have people stop and tell us how nice it is to see our large, happy family, and it reminds them of their own upbringing. This past week, a stranger we had chatted with at a restaurant secretly paid for our meal and we only found out when we were leaving (and it was too late to thank them in person). The meal made me grateful, not just for the boon to our budget but for reminding us of how generous our folk are and demonstrating that our values are more common than the media wants us to believe.

And if you do not find yourself beautiful yet, act as does the creator of a statue that is to be made beautiful: he cuts away here, he smoothes there, he makes this line lighter, this other purer, until a lovely face has grown upon his work. So do you also: cut away all that is excessive, straighten all that is crooked, bring light to all that is overcast, labour to make all one glow of beauty and never cease chiselling your statue, until there shall shine out on you from it the godlike splendour of virtue, until you shall see the perfect goodness surely established in the stainless shrine.”

“The family is the test of freedom; because the family is the only thing that the free man makes for himself and by himself.”

"You must know that there is nothing higher and stronger and more wholesome and good for life in the future than some good memory, especially a memory of childhood, of home. People talk to you a great deal about your education, but some good, sacred memory, preserved from childhood, is perhaps the best education. If a man carries many such memories with him into life, he is safe to the end of his days, and if one has only one good memory left in one’s heart, even that may sometime be the means of saving us."
~Fyodor Dostoevsky

“Church traditions, especially when they do not run contrary to the faith, are to be observed in the form in which previous generations have handed them down; and the use of one church is not to be annulled because it is contrary to that of another.”
-St. Jerome, Letter 71
"O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help."

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20
“In place of a true-type people, born of and grown on the soil, there is a new sort of nomad, cohering unstably in fluid masses, the parasitical city dweller, traditionless, utterly matter-of-fact, religionless, clever, unfruitful, deeply contemptuous of the countryman and especially that highest form of countryman, the country gentleman...”

"Sound the Flute!
Now it's mute.
Birds delight
Day and Night.
Nightingale
In the dale
Lark in Sky
Merrily
Merrily Merrily to
welcome in the Year
Little Boy
Full of joy.
Little Girl
Sweet and small,
Cock does crow
So do you.
Merry voice
Infant noise
Merrily Merrily to
welcome in the Year
Little Lamb
Here I am,
Come and lick
My white neck.
Let me pull
Your soft Wool.
Let me kiss
Your soft face.
Merrily Merrily we
welcome in the Year."
