CR Flamengo v FC Bayern München: Round Of 16 - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Stay frosty... When Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made the decision to take a dive at the ball to his left, while Jamal Musiala was crashing in hard, contact was inevitable. However, the collision resulted in the towering and sturdy Donnarumma throwing the force of his body into the legs of Musiala — who is not going to qualify for Mr. Olympia any time soon. Musiala would end up with what has been reported to be a broken fibula and some ligament damage. For Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl. it was a play that should not have happened. “When I jump onto his [Musiala’s] lower leg while sprinting, weighing 100 kg, there’s a high risk of something happening. I don’t think he did it intentionally, but he also wasn’t being considerate,” Eberl said (as captured by Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau via @iMiaSanMia). Yes, the situation could have been avoided, but Donnarumma was not willing to find out what might happen if he did not make a play on the ball. It was truly a bang-bang moment that will now likely cost Musiala at least a good chunk of the Hinrunde — or even the entire first half of the season. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images And now we officially know... On its club website, Bayern Munich confirmed that Jamal Musiala has suffered a “serious injury” and that he will undergo surgery soon: Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury during the Club World Cup quarterfinal match between FC Bayern Munich and Paris St. Germain in the USA and had to be substituted at halftime. Examinations by the German champions’ doctors revealed that the attacking player suffered a fractured fibula as a result of an ankle dislocation. The 22-year-old flew from Orlando to Munich on Sunday morning and will undergo surgery shortly. Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl issued a statement on the news. “This serious injury and the long absence are a real shock for Jamal and all of us. This hits FC Bayern hard. Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he plays for our team. Furthermore, the human impact is incredibly bitter; we all feel for him: Jamal has just recovered from an injury and will now be out for another long period. He will get everything he needs from us. We will support him intensively and be by his side, and we are already looking forward to him being back on the pitch,” said Eberl. While Bayern Munich did not address the length of time that Musiala will be out, some reports indicate that it could be as long as 4-5 months. FC Bayern Muenchen Teams Celebrate Winning The Leagues Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Good competition + good money seems to be a winning formula... Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen thinks the Club World Cup is valuable in more ways than just the financial aspect of the competition. “I won’t start with the financial aspect, I’ll start with the significance of the tournament. This is the first tournament in this format, the first real Club World Cup ever. To this day, everyone knows that Uruguay was the first world champion,” Dreesen told Sky Germany (as captured by@ @iMiaSanMia). “This Club World Cup is something that will last. It’s not a one-off. And in that respect, it has enormous sporting appeal. And we can see that in the big surprises. Manchester City [lost to All Hilal], who would have thought? No one. Inter are no longer in the tournament either. And there are some surprises that I didn’t really expect. “In that respect, this tournament is of big importance for us and also for Vincent Kompany, as he has said on several occasions. We are trying hard, the team is fully focused. They are working hard at our base camp because they want to win this tournament. And of course, this tournament also has a financial component. “It comes with a very, very attractive prize money for all participants. And in that respect, that naturally plays a role. But first comes the sporting aspect. That, by the way, is also the reason why we, with our entourage here in the USA, are focused on football. For us, this isn’t a summer tour or a marketing trip. For us, this is a trip where we want to win a tournament.”Dreesen might not have wanted to start with the financial aspect of the Club World Cup (or even really dive into it at all), but it is an unavoidable topic. Clubs cannot generate the millions already made without this tournament at this point in the summer. It is safe to assume that this will be a goal for most club moving forward as long as the format stays the same. Bayern Munich is still plowing through names to play wing, so let’s focus on those — plus a discussion on Max Eberl’s statements on Kim Min-jae and João Palhinha. Let’s talk about all of that and more on the Bavarian Football Works — Weekend Warm-up Show: Real Madrid youngster Rodrygo could be the latest winger on Bayern Munich’s radar. The Brazilian would probably cost a fortune, but could the answer to Bayern’s problems at wing. Is it possible for Bayern to outbid Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal FC, and Liverpool FC for the potential superstar? If not Rodrygo, should Bayern Munich take a look at RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons? Is Bayern Munich serious about selling João Palhinha and Kim Min-jae? If so, what does that mean for roster moves this summer? RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba has been mentioned as a defensive replacement for Min-jae, but Bayern Munich could just not replace Palhinha. Is that smart?

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images A tough loss in more than one way... Bayern Munich are officially out of the FIFA Club World Cup, following a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. It was the result of perhaps one of the worst Bayern performance from recent days. To add INJURY to the INSULT, the injury gods showed up, and sent Jamal Musiala right back into the sidelines with a suspected fibular fracture. Josip Stanišić is also out most likely, with what seems to be a hamstring problem.Addressing the injury, manager Vincent Kompany spoke after the game. According to @iMiaSanMia, Kompany was rather curt and did not speak much on the topic apart from expressing that he hopes Musiala has the best possible recovery.“It was emotional. Of course it didn’t look good. I hope it’s not too bad, but it didn’t look good. I hope he’ll have the best possible recovery,” Kompany stated. One can only hope the recovery is speedy. To see Musiala out again after he just spent three months in recovery from muscle problems is heartbreaking.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern M¸nchen: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Heuler Andrey/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images As it turns out, Bayern Munich could not penetrate PSG’s backline... Die Folgen: Bayern’s devastating 2-0 loss to PSG (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain hooked up for a scintillating Club World Cup quarterfinal, as the Champions League titleholders dumped the Bavarians 2-0 in what could be a very costly loss for the German champions.Yes, the defeat will result in a massive amount of lost opportunity to generate more revenue, but — more importantly — Jamal Musiala is likely out for an extended period with a serious injury. Let’s get into it, as here are some quick hitters on the match:As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI: #packmas #PSGFCB #FIFACWC pic.twitter.com/zQJIBtPflF— FC Bayern München (@FCBayern) July 5, 2025Vincent Kompany’s lineup was pretty much as expected with the exception of selecting Aleksandar Pavlović over Leon Goretzka in the central midfield and Kingsley Coman over Serge Gnabry at left-wing, but those were not major surprises. Those two positions really could have gone either way.In the 3rd minute, a careless turnover from Michael Olise deep in his own end, allowed Désiré Doué to turn around Dayot Upamecano and rip a shot at Manuel Neuer that went just wide. Yikes. Both teams were pressing aggressively, but Bayern Munich did not seem to adjust well to it early on, and were on the verge of quite a few big blunders. In the 6th minute, Olise was gifted a golden opportunity to give Bayern Munich the lead after some nifty passing, but the Frenchman topped his shot and it rolled meekly toward Gianluigi Donnarumma for an easy save. Bayern Munich was putting a lot of pressure on PSG, but the end product was not living to its world class billing. Konrad Laimer drove quickly toward the net in the 8th minute and instead of chipping in a cross to Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala as they were streaking to the net, he took a shot...or maybe got caught in-between, so whatever it was just floated harmlessly over the net. Just a minute later, Bayern Munich had another strong chance, but inexplicably switched play instead of using the closer man for an easier play. It was clear that Bayern Munich was overthinking things — it was having a success that it might not have expected and did not really know how to handle that success. Through 15 minutes, Bayern Munich was the better team and it was not even close. However, the Bavarians were sloppy, indecisive, and inefficient with their chances. In the 19th minute, an old issue arose for Bayern Munich as a massive gap opened up on the left-side as Josip Stanišić had to track Bradley Barcola, who was quickly dribbling laterally to the middle of the pitch. Coman did not drop back quickly enough and Achraf Hakimi was off to the race. His cross led Khvicha Kvaratskhelia too much, though, as he could only fire a shot into the side netting. That sequence would start to evidence some cracks in Bayern Munich’s setup as PSG was beginning to find more space. Joshua Kimmich and Pavlović were back-pressing the hell out of PSG, which had to be a big part of the game plan for Kompany. Kvaratskhelia would look great in red, eh?Bayern Munich’s outside-backs, particularly Laimer, were getting dangerously high up the pitch. Olise tested Donnarumma in the 27th minute with a hard shot, but the Italian turned it away. Musiala had trouble getting into the match and seemed to be getting a lot of attention from PSG. In the 32nd minute, Kvaratskhelia ate up Dayot Upamecano and was a brilliant Neuer save away from giving PSG a lead. What a fantastic stop from the veteran.Stanišić was forced to leave the game in the 34th minute and was replaced by Sacha Boey. That pushed Laimer to the left side. Boey...really struggled.Coman (?!) actually pulled off a great 1v1 sequence and whipped a great cross in (!?) to Kane, who headed his attempt over the crossbar. In the 41st minute, Pavlović…

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Round of 16 Second Leg Photo by Boris Streubel - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images We feel you, Phonzy, we really do. Bayern Munich and its fans were shocked beyond words when Jamal Musiala went down with a gruesome ankle injury in the Club World Cup quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain.The news also evidently shook Alphonso Davies to his core. The Canadian full back was streaming the game, as he does most Bayern games that he cannot play in, and his reaction was raw and real.Davies screamed “Oh my God, no!” while clutching his head, and then kept repeating “no” before being reduced into stunned silence. Take a look:Phonzy Reaction because Musiala is injured #FCBayern #musiala #PSGFCB pic.twitter.com/qoqMSatWvD— flo (@lolli_floo) July 5, 2025Davies himself is currently recovering from a horrible injury of his own, an ACL tear that will keep him out until around November. He knows the pain of such a terrible setback, and how it can impact not just the physical aspect of a player, but the mental aspect as well. Since the two are close friends as well, one can see how much worse Davies is feeling for Musiala.Musiala, meanwhile, will most likely be sidelined for at least four to five months. Optimistically speaking, he could make a comeback in November, if the first reports are to be believed, but as it was such a devastating injury, it needs to be monitored with extreme caution. This writer crosses his fingers tightly that both players make a timely and safe comeback.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Well, it’s all right...sometimes, you gotta be strong. It is over. Thomas Müller’s final game at Bayern Munich ended in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup. It was an ending that the veteran did not see coming. “We were so focused on advancing, and now things have turned out this way. We have to process that first. It’s always a strange situation at these tournaments: you actually assume you were going back to the hotel, to the base camp, to prepare the next round. And now you’re going there to pack your bags. That has to sink in a bit,” Müller said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “If you look at the game, everything was possible today. We played well and competed really well. We had them under control in the first half. “Our pressing even forced them to take risks in the second half. They played a lot more long balls. We had two offside goals and a lot of situations where we were just a little bit offside. Things got really wild towards the end, even too heated. With eleven against nine, we would have had good chances to win it in extra time had we snatched an equalizer.”The reality for Müller and fans alike will hit hard in the coming days. The loss to PSG is just a microcosm in the legendary career of Müller, whose future is not yet determined. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Absolutely diabolical game. Bayern Munich’s much-anticipated clash against European champions PSG ended in a 2-0 loss for the Rekordmeister, following goals from Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé. This means Bayern’s journey in the inaugural edition of the new Club World Cup has come to an end. Here are some observations from the game. Devastated for Jamal MusialaFirst and foremost. Jamal Musiala suffered what can only be described as an absolutely terrible injury to his ankle at the end of the first half, following an unnecessary, overplayed and slightly malicious tackle from Gianluigi Donnarumma at the edge of the field. In what marked the German starlet’s first start following his injury in April, this is without a doubt extremely gutting. The injury looked very serious, and Musiala was stretchered off the pitch in agony. Even PSG players were horrified by the state of Musiala’s leg/ankle area. There is no point speculating; the most fans can do is pray Bambi makes a speedy recovery.Musiala deserved far better than to meet such a fate. Having skipped the Nations League to focus on getting completely ready for this tournament, getting injured in such a manner must be heartbreaking. Fans are finding it hard to imagine what Musiala must be going through, let alone what this might mean for his career. His tears and pain resonate with every Bayern fan in the world. Losing time at such a crucial stage in his career, a career so promising and bright, is an excruciating thought. Musiala’s talent will be sorely missed — and here’s to hoping he is alright. It is difficult now to talk about a football game after Bayern’s most important player suffered such a horrific injury. But we must.Bayern Munich had the (almost) perfect game planVincent Kompany set this team up to win from the very get-go. The lineup was perfect, and it was clear that this was the very moment Kompany was waiting for to play this XI. The game plan was even better — by upping the tempo and maintaining the game’s intensity, Kompany managed to mask Bayern’s insecurities and played on his strengths. Bayern’s quick wing play, speedy buildup by bypassing the midfield entirely, and added focus on going forward were exactly what they needed in a game such as this. Bayern countering PSG relentlessly pressing them with equal pressure of their own was not only a joy to watch but also a brilliant way to face a technically superior team. For all the talk about Kompany’s competence as a coach recently, he showed he knows what he is doing on the big stage. That is, for the most part. It quickly became clear that Bayern do not have practice playing with such intensity or against teams of PSG’s level. The lack of coordination became visible as the game progressed, and the dispossessions in crucial areas gave PSG clear chances on goal. The bigger issue was the extremely risky highline Bayern played. Watching Bayern’s defence caught on the counter and scrambling behind lightning-fast PSG forwards became a running trend (pun intended), and that was down to the easily exploitable defensive set-up. Sure, it gave Bayern a much-needed boost in build-up, but it came with serious consequences defensively. In that aspect, PSG’s tactics with a more fluid structure that was able to cover ground more effectively saw them maintain a solid defensive structure without compromising their chance-creation.In the end, this is something for Kompany to build upon. There is a lot that can be done here, but it was also clear that this is a game the players aren’t accustomed to playing.Chances for both sides, but PSG took the crownIt is almost every matchday that this complaint pops up: Bayern Munich simply weren’t clinical enough. Bayern caught PSG off guard with their setup and were able to penetrate their box far more often, but they failed to capitalize. This came off the back of a fairly weak Michael Olise performance before he settled…

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images Bayern Munich leave the FIFA Club World Cup with more questions than answers. Bayern Munich hung with the European champions, Paris Saint-Germain, for 77 minutes but ultimately failed to find the finishing touch. Désiré Doué’s left-footed shot broke the deadlock and Ousmane Dembélé scored in stoppage time to put the game out of reach. Before Dembélé’s goal, Willian Pacho and former Bayern player Lucas Hernández were both ejected for red card challenges in the second half.In the first half, Bayern lost Jamal Musiala (lower leg) and Josip Stanišić (upper leg) to injuries. Musiala’s nasty injury will sideline him indefinitely.PSG will move on to the semifinals to play today’s winner of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.Jersey Swap: Gianluigi DonnarummaBayern pounded early on Donnarumma but he kept the clean sheet with five saves. Bayern fans will probably loathe the Italian goalkeeper for the rest of his career for his involvement in Musiala’s injury, regardless of whether he is innocent or guilty. Der Kaiser: Manuel NeuerLike every other team in the world, Bayern’s entire defense struggled with PSG’s insane pace at the attacking position, including Dayot Upamecano. Luckily, “Man-wall” Neuer came up clutch with three big saves to give Bayern a fighting chance. On Doué’s goal, Neuer’s view was blocked and then he slipped, like many other players today. The precisee shot was likely out of reach, but Neuer will still blame himself for conceding two goals in Thomas Müller’s final match for Bayern. At the age of 39, Neuer is still playing at an elite level. Can he surpass Gianluigi Buffon and play into his late forties?Fußballgott: Aleksandar PavlovićIt is rare for Joshua Kimmich to be outplayed by his midfield counterpart. Pavlović’s box-to-box range was crucial in containing PSG’s midfield, especially in the buildups from the back. All of PSG’s scoring opportunities went through the wings. It was cruel that Pavlović was replaced after he received zero rotational help on Doué’s game winner.Der Bomber: Michael OliseNuno Mendes will walk away with the win in hand but Olise gave the Portuguese defender a variety of dribbles, passes, and feints all night. Olise’s right-footed shot, parried away by Donnarumma, was Bayern’s best opportunity all night. The French winger continues to bring his brilliance to the right wing. With Musiala out for the foreseeable future, Olise will be the focal point of Bayern’s attack.Meister of the Match: Kingsley ComanPlaying against his former club, the Frenchman was instrumental on both sides of the pitch. On a number of occasions, he tracked down Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to cover for Konrad Laimer and Stanišić. In the attacking third, he repeatedly beat Achraf Hakimi and found a teammate in the box.Unfortunately, Coman was unable to recreate his theatrics from the 2020 final. While Bayern still want to bring on another winger this summer, Coman has stated his case to be the go-to starter on the left wing.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter Final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Is Bayern Munich poised to rebound from this? After Bayern Munich’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, head coach Vincent Kompany was not not thrilled about Jamal Musiala’s horrible injury, but he did see enough positives from the squad’s performance to think that the defeat could serve as a building block for the season. “For me, such situations increase the motivation for the future. We won’t go into the dressing room and say that the guys didn’t perform. The performance was exactly what we needed against this PSG team, but we couldn’t manage to reward ourselves. That’s football. It’s a pity we couldn’t create 2-3 more chances in the end after PSG got the red cards. It was absolutely possible. We knew beforehand that details would decide the game, and that’s what happened,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). The plan was, indeed, sound, but as Kompany inferred, the execution was less than optimal. That said, there were several issues on the pitch aside of inefficiency in the attack. Before his injury, both Musiala and Harry Kane had some troubling getting away from PSG’s defense and midfield, while Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise failed to pick their teammates up when given opportunities. In addition, the backline struggle to work together cohesively. Yes, the effort can be considered a building block in some respects for the season, but there are changes that will have to be made before anyone can start thinking about just how high the hopes should be for the 2025/26 campaign, Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern Munchen: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Martín Fonseca/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images Hmmm... Bayern Munich lost the game — and one of its top players when Jamal Musiala was injured after a collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during a 2-0 defeat. So...what should the Bavarians do?Head coach Vincent Kompany has used players like Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry at the No. 10 position, but neither have looked all that comfortable there and moving Olise off of right-wing would just be robbing Peter to pay Paul given the void it would leave on the flank. A youngster like Lennart Karl has played attacking midfield at times, but is not ready for primetime, while Thomas Müller is on his way out the door. Could an extension now be on the table for the veteran given these extenuating circumstances? What about Tom Bischof? He has extensive experience playing as an attacking midfielder? Given how Kompany used Bischof at the Club World Cup, the boss seems reluctant to trust the former Hoffenheim star. Bayern Munich is hotly pursuing VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, who can play the spot, but he is mostly known for his work as a striker. What else could the transfer market bring? RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons? Chelsea FC’s Christopher Nkunku? Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo? There are options, but how would they fit at Bayern Munich? What would you do to fill the void left by Musiala? Give us your plan below...Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? FC Bayern Muenchen Unveils Newly Signed Head Coach Vincent Kompany Photo by Christina Pahnke - sampics/Getty Images Unfortunately for him, the transfer window is never going to become less talked about for any big club. Bayern Munich’s executive for sport, Max Eberl is one of the busiest men in the club’s office in Säbener Straße, The transfer window is a hectic period for the managements of footballing clubs around the world and the case is no different for Bayern. The Nick Woltemade transfer has taken centre stage and become the primary target of transfer discussions and analysis by fans and pundits alike. However, Eberl feels that it hampers the conduct and flow of a football negotiation.Max Eberl recently gave his perspective on the negotiations( as captured by @iMiaSanMia). He said, “The problem these days is that we can’t consider our ideas, hold talks and try to negotiate in calm. Everyone always has something to say. That makes finding a solution in negotiations difficult. The entire world now knows that we’re considering Nick Woltemade, it’s no longer a secret. With everything being said around it, I don’t know what will happen now. We’ll try to find a solution, and if we couldn’t, then it’s a pity. I don’t think Stuttgart want to rip us off. Our relationship is way too good for that. We’ll try to go into negotiations neutrally and objectively. On the one hand, there’s a player you like. On the other hand, there’s a budget you have to stick to.”Calculated move to replace the outgoing talentBayern is short on attacking options with the departures of Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, Mathys Tel, and Bryan Zaragoza .On the question whether Woltemade was sufficient to replace the outgoing attacking pool or if Bayern are still on the hunt for a left winger, Eberl gave a cheeky answer. He replied, “The planning is ongoing. But the calculation is simple. maths help, even in football.”Bayern Munich is still plowing through names to play wing, so let’s focus on those — plus a discussion on Max Eberl’s statements on Kim Min-jae and João Palhinha.

Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Thomas rightly deferred the question as the injury is yet to sink in completely and further diagnosis is awaited. Bayern Munich’s warhorse, Thomas Müller has played his final game for his only club. Or has he? Jamal Musiala, the prodigal Bayern attacker, expected to replace Müller has undergone a severe injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup. With several departures in the attacking department, the question arises whether the club should extend Müller for another six months. However, Müller has, for the time being, put that question to rest out of respect for his teammate. In the post game interview (@DAZN_DE via @iMiaSanMia) after the game against PSG, Thomas Müller was asked whether a further stint of 6 months was possible, in light of Musiala’s injury. He replied, “I understand why you ask this question, but It’s a bit - I’m not saying tasteless - but it feels uncomfortable to me.”Although, the time will soon come when a call of this nature has to be made by the management and the player himself. However, like Müller said, it is too soon for a player to answer whether he would replace his teammate who is currently in agonising pain and trauma.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala? Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern M¸nchen: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Heuler Andrey/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images The coach is not the only one... Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany entered the locker room after the first half of his team’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain furious — but not at his players, but because of the injury to Jamal Musiala right before the whistle blew.“I’ve rarely been so angry at half time, not against my players - I know there are much more important things in life, but for these guys it’s their life. Someone like Jamal lives for this. He just came back from a setback and now this happens. You feel powerless. My blood is still boiling right now, not because of the result, that’s football. But because it happened to someone that enjoys the game so much,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). The play that caused the injury has been criticized given how PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made an aggressive play toward Musiala, which left the attacker prone. The end result, of course, looks like a serious injury to Musiala and a major blow to Bayern Munich’s 2025/26 season. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern Munchen: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Martín Fonseca/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images Not good at all... According to a report from Bild (as captured by MagentaTV journalist Victor Catalina), Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala will be out four to five months after a collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Not only did the Bavarians drop a 2-0 decision to PSG, but they also lost one of their most important players for an extended period of time. A true double whammy: According to @BILD, Jamal Musiala broke his left fibula, some tendons are affected as well. He’ll be out for 4-5 months.

Prayers up ❤️‍ pic.twitter.com/hu0g5yeW0i— Victor Catalina (@vcatalina96) July 5, 2025This is terrible news for Bayern Munich and now the club must try to plan for how to compensate for the loss of the productive attacker. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern München: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Buda Mendes/Getty Images Not good... Manuel Neuer was hot under the collar after Bayern Munich’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League...and it was not all about the final score. PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s challenge on Jamal Musiala at the end of the first half looks to have resulted in a major injury for the budding star. Neuer felt like the play was unnecessary. “It was a situation where you don’t have to go in like that. That’s risk-taking. He was prepared to accept the risk of injuring his opponent,” Neuer told Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I went to him and said, ‘Don’t you want to go and see our player?’ It’s a matter of respect, of going there and wishing the guy all the best. He then did it. Fairplay is always a part of it. I would have reacted differently.”The loss of Musiala could end up being devastating, depending on the severity of the injury. With that, the actual outcome of the match almost become an afterthought. Paris Saint-Germain v FC Bayern Munchen: Quarter-final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Martín Fonseca/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty Images This is bad. Well... the injury gods are definitely mad at us.Bayern Munich went into the quarterfinal of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. While Bayern were perceived the underdogs of the fixture, they certainly had it in themselves to put up a strong fight. Hopes were high as Jamal Musiala started his first game in three months, after having played the last 15 minutes of the Benfica fixture. The youngster looked extremely promising until the injury. His left leg was twisted and caught under PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, and he was immediately subbed off. Here’s the bad news now.According to Sky journalist Kerry Hau, Musiala was taken to the hospital immediately after the game. He is suspected to have fractured his fibula:Jamal Musiala is on the way to the hospital. He's suspected to have fractured his fibula [@kerry_hau] pic.twitter.com/0KSQaK8Jeq— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) July 5, 2025Opinion: This is most likely a distal fibula fracture, which are commonly caused due to ankle twisting. Depending on the stability of the fracture (its ability to not ‘wobble’ and damage surrounding structures), these are managed either conservatively or by surgical reduction and fixation.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s devastating 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup — and a reaction to the horrific injury sustained by Jamal Musiala?
