Germany v Portugal - UEFA Nations League 2025 Semi-final Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Can Germany evolve into a top contender for the 2026 World Cup and 2028 EUROs? Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich knows that to get German national team fans to fully buy back into the squad, winning will be paramount. “Sporting success is the foundation. This naturally creates a better feeling among the people in the country, and the connection between fans and team is positively charged. You’re perceived as more approachable, even though you may not have changed your behavior toward the fans at all,” Kimmich told kicker journalist Frank Linkesch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Kimmich think that head coach Julian Nagelsmann has helped get the team back on track and is the right coach to lead the team into several key tourneys in the near future. “He’s actually extended his contract, something perhaps not everyone would have expected at the beginning. I certainly didn’t. Of course, he had the unique opportunity to take on this position before a home European Championship. Even as a coach, you probably won’t experience such a highlight twice. But the fact that Julian has already extended until EURO 2028 only underscores, in my opinion, the importance and significance of the national team,” said Kimmich. “I think his time at Bayern shaped him, especially the surrounding circumstances. In Hoffenheim and Leipzig, he had a calmer environment and more time to develop and implement his ideas. He had many young players there who wanted to absorb everything and bring it to life on the pitch. At FC Bayern, the standards are different, including in the media. When things aren’t going well, everything is quickly questioned. I think he’s drawn his conclusions and is better able to assess these things. When the national team suffered the first setbacks in November 2023, he remained composed, analyzed them, drew conclusions, and then followed through. We were all rewarded for that.”When thinking back about Nagelsmann’s time with Bayern Munich, Kimmich is not sure anything could have prevented the separation between the two parties. “It helps everyone, players and coaches alike, when the club supports them. But we know how difficult it is to manage and control everything at FC Bayern. We’ve won the league nine times in my ten years at FC Bayern – and now I’m on my eighth coach. That’s the way it is in business. Expectations are very high, both internally and externally. Just like with the national team,” said Kimmich.

Liverpool Unveil New Signing Florian Wirtz Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images What’s done is done, but for a long time it seemed like Wirtz would be coming to Bayern. Florian Wirtz is officially a Liverpool player having completed a move from Bayer Leverkusen for what has been reported to be an initial fee of €125 million fee with another €15 million in performance-based add-ons included. He’s signed a five-year deal with the reigning Premier League champions, keeping him on Merseyside through 2030 and putting the proverbial nail in the coffin for Bayern Munich, who fully expected him to be joining them before Liverpool swooped in.For the better part of the past six to seven months, Bayern seemed like the natural, logical next step for Wirtz and the player himself indicated interest in making that leap. Former Bayern president Uli Hoeneß had been in routine contact with the player’s family to try to seal the deal and explain the plan that the club had for the 22-year old, but in the end, he decided to go to Liverpool. It’s been heavily suggested that conversations with manager Arne Slot had a lot to do with Wirtz choosing Liverpool over Bayern, especially knowing that he’ll be solidified in the number 10 role there.Former Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed the sentiment shared by most Bayern fans when he recently expressed his disappointment with the German Rekordmeister having missed out on such a generational talent. “Generally speaking, I think it’s a pity. We’ve always had the philosophy that the best German players should play for FC Bayern. We gave it our all; in this case, no one made a mistake. It’s Florian’s decision – and we have to accept it,” Rummenigge explained in a recent interview with Welt Am Sonntag (via @iMiaSanMia). Meeting – 49th UEFA Ordinary Congress Photo by Francesco Scaccianoce - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images When both Rummenigge and Hoeneß were both still in office at Bayern, they had often dreamed about Hoeneß’s desire for “FC Deutschland,” in wanting to have all of the best German players playing for Bayern. The heavy contingent of Bayern players always being picked for the German national team were often reflective of that dream being, for all intents and purposes, somewhat of a reality, though it has started to trend in the opposite direction in recent years.Nonetheless, Bayern is continuously competing with the undertones of top talents choosing the Premier League over the Bundesliga with the allure that the English top flight has. Harry Kane’s move to Munich from Tottenham had hallmarks of helping reduce that polarity, but the economic state of disparity between the Premier League and the German top flight is always growing larger.

Aston Villa v Bayern München - UEFA Youth League 2024/25 Photo by Marc Atkins/Getty Images This is a big surprise. Peruvian U-19 international Felipe “Pippo” Chávez was already one of Bayern Munich’s most interesting U-19 talents heading into the 2024/25 season. Then he exploded. Operating as an attacking midfielder or false 9, he bagged 6 goals and 10 assists in 13 matches in the Hinrunde. These impressive performances saw him promoted to the U-23s in midseason, where he made integrating into a new team look remarkably simple and winning a spot in the top XI in no time flat. With the U-23s, however, Chávez played much further back, often operating closer to a regular midfield position and often dictating deep play. No matter. He made that transition look easy as well. The growth in his game and the level of responsibility he was willing to take throughout the entire season spoke of a very mature character as well as a very multifaceted and talented player.Which is all why losing him would have been such a shame. But it seemed to be a nailed on certainty. His contract was due to expire on June 30, 2025 and there were whispers he would join former club FC Augsburg. His exclusion from the FIFA Club World Cup in favor of players from the U-17 or U-19 squad also seemed to all but seal the inevitable. But on June 30, the day Chávez’ contract was set to expire, Bayern announced the Peruvian’s extension via their official website. Funnily enough, they had fellow countryman and Bayern legend Claudio Pizarro announce the extension as well via a Bayern Campus twitter post, with the acne filled face of Chávez popping up at the end to confirm it. If getting that made was why the extension announcement was so delayed, then it was very worth it. Interestingly enough, the club did not officially release the length of the contract extension. This is very unusual for the club. Regardless, it is great to see another top talent pledge his future to Bayern. Many will of course question Bayern’s ability to see the player develop and be integrated into the first team. And we will see if Chávez has the potential for that. But, for now, his path will continue in the Regionalliga Bayern.

England v Germany - UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025 Final Photo by Boris Streubel - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images Another year or loan…or a permanent transfer? According to a report from Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch (via @iMiaSanMia), VfB Stuttgart and Werder Bremen have emerged as top contenders for Bayern Munich youngster Paul Wanner:Stuttgart and Werder Bremen are interested in Paul Wanner. The player is prioritizing a move to VfB. For Bremen only a loan deal is an option - while for Stuttgart, both options (loan and permanent move) are on the table. Bayern would ideally like to loan Wanner out to a team playing in European competitions.2024/25 was not the most memorable campaign for Wanner who scuffled through a season with Heidenheim on loan before struggling to get minutes for Germany’s squad at the U-21 EUROs. A move — loan or permanent — could be just what the youngster needs to get back on track…or it could result in another uneven campaign.Either way, both Wanner and Bayern Munich will have a clear understanding of where he is in his development after this upcoming season.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big swing at chasing VfB Stuttgart star Nick Woltemade? CR Flamengo v FC Bayern München: Round Of 16 - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images As Bayern contemplate adding a second striker up top in Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, Kane served up a reminder of where the bar is. Harry Kane is a player so good he’s easy to take for granted. The Bayern Munich and England star is indisputably one of the best strikers in the world, but he has also always had his detractors. Does he show up in big games? Is he trying to be a holding midfielder instead? Why doesn’t Bayern try to give him more service? And so on.But against Flamengo on Sunday in the Club World Cup Round of 16, Kane showed just how indispensable he is as a finisher for the Bavarians — who won 4-2 despite a 0.85-1.99 deficit in expected goals. That’s because Kane was burying chances like this...GOLAÇO DO BAYERN Flamengo 1 x [3] Bayern München ⚽️ Leon Goretzka ️ - Copa do Mundo de Clubes— Futebol Clube (@futebolclub10.bsky.social) 2025-06-29T20:44:08.018Z...and this:GOL DO BAYERN Flamengo 2-4 Bayern München ⚽️ Harry Kane ️ Joshua Kimmich Copa do Mundo de Clubes— Futebol Clube (@futebolclub10.bsky.social) 2025-06-29T21:42:49.372ZThe eliteness Kane put on display here cannot be overstated. His production — 36 goals in his first Bundesliga season and a ‘mere’ 26 in his second — and ability to fashion goals out of nowhere gives Bayern exactly what it has needed since Robert Lewandowski’s departure. It’s one thing to score a couple of pretty goals. It’s another to make that routine.Lewandowski, incidentally, has kept going strong at FC Barcelona as well. Age has not put a damper on his finishing ability, and in that regard, Kane and Lewandowski are simply a cut above. Many extremely good players do not have ‘it’, nor have demonstrated ‘it’ as reliably and consistently as these two have. Take Leroy Sané — whose indomitable run in the 2022 Champions League group stages is a distant memory, and now as he heads to Turkey will be remembered instead for his raft of missed 1-on-1s, including his last action in a Bayern jersey.Which brings us to VfB Stuttgart forward and the German men’s national team’s latest striker hope, Nick Woltemade. The 23-year-old is very tall, very dribbly, and very versatile: playing at times at the No. 10 for club and country, though he may need to fashion himself a new role at Bayern — if he arrives.Woltemade’s arrival is the question. Having missed out on generational German talent Florian Wirtz to Liverpool FC, Bayern have a €100M hole burning in its pocket — coincidentally an amount suggested, perhaps spuriously, as Stuttgart’s transfer ask.But Wirtz, 22, has held his place as a leading light in Germany’s rising generation for years. Just this season, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Tim Kleindienst and West Ham’s Niclas Füllkrug were Germany’s main strikers. And even Wirtz would have been an odd transfer fit for the Bavarians, who have Jamal Musiala manning the No. 10 position and serious question marks at wing. Leroy Sané is gone, while Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry look not too long for the club and both heading towards 30. Rejuvenation is needed, fast.Woltemade has caught the eye, especially at the Under-21 European Championships, and his finishing has been on point. Is it Kane and Lewandowski level, though? If it is, the Bavarians would secure one of the most important positions for years to come. If not...the next can’t-miss up-and-coming German superstar could be only a few transfer windows away. And he won’t come cheap, either.

Germany v France - UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025 Semi-Final Photo by Christian Hofer/Getty Images Is the price right? According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), VfB Stuttgart has an asking price of €60 million to €70 million for Nick Woltemade. That should be within range for Bayern Munich, who could start the bidding at €40 million:VfB Stuttgart currently see a fee in the €60-70m range as a realistic price for Nick Woltemade - a price that Bayern are unwilling to pay as things stand. Including a player in the deal is a possibility, but not confirmed yet.The expectation is that VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich will be in for an extended process in trying to get a deal done. If the teams get close enough, a deal should be within reach for the two Bundesliga clubs. Germany v France - UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025 Semi-Final Photo by Christian Hofer/Getty Images Hmmm... Almost immediately after Germany’s loss to England in the U-21 EUROs, some talking heads and fans assumed that Bayern Munich’’s interest in VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade could have been a distraction. When asked about it during the postgame rush, the notion was widely dismissed by members of the German national team: U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo on whether the Bayern noise around Woltemade before the final affected him and the preparation for the game: “All the background noise wasn’t ideal. But that wasn’t the reason we lost the game”Captain Eric Martel: “No, that didn’t matter” Paul Nebel: “That’s complete nonsense. Nick was completely focused on the game against England and wanted to win. You can’t score every game. Nick gave it his all.”There is no doubt that Woltemade was fully focused on the match vs. England, but the noise was there and — unfortunately — does create a little of a distraction for the team itself even if the individual is on-point. On that day England was the better team, but some fans will likely still believe that Woltemade’s transfer saga just came at the wrong time. The feeling here is that Bayern Munich’s interest in Woltemade did not play a olein Germany’s loss. Spain v France - UEFA Nations League 2025 Semi-final Photo by Matteo Ciambelli/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Bayern Munich is keeping an eye on many players... Bayern still eyeing wingers (Mundo Deportivo’s Fernando Polo via @iMiaSanMia)According to a report from Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo, Bayern Munich is still keeping tabs on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has been very closely linked to FC Barcelona: Bayern are still keeping a close eye on Nico Williams’ situation and are continuing to push to sign him despite knowing that the player’s preference is to join Barcelona. The German club has stated that they would have no problem paying his release clause €58m plus taxes (€62m total). Given their poor relations with Barça, Athletic Club would much prefer if Williams went to Bayern. Negotiations between Nico Williams and Barcelona have stalled in the past few days as the player and his agent are asking for registration guarantees, which didn’t go down well at the Catalan club.Per Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s potential acquisition of VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade will not have an effect on Bayern’s plans for a wing — theoretically opening the door for the Bavarians to throw a Hail Mary toward Williams: Bayern are still looking to sign a winger this summer even if they’re going strong for Nick Woltemade. There have been no new approaches to Nico Williams from Bayern in the past 2-3 days because the club believes it’s a very complicated deal and that his preference is Barcelona. Bayern are considering different wingers. Bild backed up Romano as well (via @iMiaSanMia): After BILD, @tzmuenchen are also reporting about internal considerations that a potential Nick Woltemade move to Bayern could replace the long-demanded reinforcement on the left wing. Woltemade would then be the major signing of the summer.Woltemade won’t cost €100 million (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg via @iMiaSanMia)The reports of VfB stuttgart requiring €100 million are exaggerated per Plettenberg: Reports of a €100m asking price for Nick Woltemade are wide off the mark. Читать полностью…Liverpool FC v Arsenal FC - Premier League Photo by Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty Images Bayen have ramped up their efforts in trying to get the Colombian international from the Premier League champions. The German transfer window is now officially open and Bayern Munich is about to get busy. They are actively working on a deal to bring in striker Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart, but they are still going to ensure they also bring in a winger to make up for missing out on Florian Wirtz, who wound up choosing to join Liverpool over Bayern. Leroy Sané is also now officially a Galatasaray player, so there is added impetus for Max Eberl, Christoph Freund, and the rest of Bayern’s front office to do what they can to bring in the right player before the transfer window closes at the end of next month.Bayern had previously shown interest in Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, but now they have also shown concrete interest in Colombian international Luis Díaz. The winger has been with Liverpool since joining from Porto back in the winter of 2022 when Jürgen Klopp was manager and his current contract with the Premier League champions runs through June 2027. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia), and Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). have all recently confirmed that Bayern has legitimate interest in Díaz and that Eberl has initiated contact to begin talks over a possible transfer this summer.Details of financial figures over a proposed deal have been discussed already and Bild has reported that Bayern has already submitted an initial offer for Díaz, though it was not disclosed just how lucrative said offer was. Romano added that it was only a “general” approach made to the winger’s camp by Eberl and that Bayern really want to get an understanding of what the winger’s situation is at Liverpool. His contact is up in a year and half, Liverpool have just signed Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and Arne Slot would have to figure out where Wirtz will fit in amongst the likes of Mohamed Salah, Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Díaz if he doesn’t wind up leaving the club.Plettenberg has reported that Díaz would be open to leaving Merseyside if the right offer did come in for him. As per Transfermarkt, he is currently valuated at €70 million, but Slot and Liverpool have every reason to ask for more at the negotiating table should things progress. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup (twice), and Community Shield with Liverpool and has gotten to a Champions League final that Liverpool wound up losing to Real Madrid in Paris in 2022. He made an immediate impact when he joined from Porto and has gone on to tally 41 goals and 23 assists from a total of 148 appearances across all competitions — that’s worth its weight in gold.

Borussia Dortmund v Holstein Kiel - Bundesliga Photo by Jan Fromme - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Bayern Munich showed restraint... Bayern Munich has been rumored to be a fan of Jamie Gittens for quite a while now, but when push came to shove for the club to launch a last-ditch effort bid for the winger before he jumped from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea FC, the club opted to stay out of the fray because of the fee per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia): Max Eberl contacted both Jamie Gittens’ representatives as well as Borussia Dortmund in the past few days to express Bayern’s interest in the player, but that was too late as Gittens was determined to join Chelsea. In addition, Bayern were unwilling to match the fee paid by Chelsea in the end (€65m).In all likelihood, Gittens was solely focused on a return home to England and with Bayern Munich wrapped up in a sudden pursuit of VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, there was very little chance that the Bavarians were going to move outside of their comfort zone to blow away Gittens with an offer. Germany v Italy - UEFA Nations League Quarterfinal Leg Two Photo by Christof Koepsel/Getty Images The coveted No. 10 shirt has found a new owner. Jamal Musiala will wear the number 10 shirt for Bayern Munich from the following season.Following the departure of Leroy Sané, who wore the No. 10 for the past five years, it was only a matter of time before Bayern’s starboy got the coveted number. Now that Sané has moved to Galatasaray, Musiala will finally don the 10 shirt for the first time in his club career. He will thus be wearing the 10 for both club and country, for whom he got the number just before last year’s Euros.

Musiala will keep wearing his old No. 42 shirt for the rest of the Club World Cup, as number changes are not allowed during the tournament. It can be reasonably assumed that he will get his new number in the pre-season matches leading up to the 2025/26 season.Bayern’s No. 10 shirt has had some very notable players wear it over the years, including Uli Hoeneß and his nemesis (?) Lothar Matthäus. Perhaps the most legendary player to wear it was Arjen Robben, who wore the 10 for ten seasons and led Bayern to numerous accolades and trophies, including his partly self-orchestrated treble in 2013. Oddly enough, it was a loan signing who wore the shirt during the club’s second treble seven years later — Philippe Coutinho, remember him?Musiala’s new 10 flocking is now available for purchase at the club’s online shop.

UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025 FinalEngland v Germany Photo by ANP via Getty Images The kid has some decisions to make... Bayern Munich attacker Paul Wanner still has not made his decision regarding the national team — Germany or Austria. ”It has to come from the heart. The decision hasn’t been made yet. It has to be the perfect moment where I stand behind it 100%. That moment hasn’t come yet. Let’s see what happens after the U-21 European Championship,” Wanner told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER) prior to the finale. “I’ve had good communication with both of them (Germany and Austria). They’re both making an effort, and it’s working out great. I’m not stressed about it. But it’s truly an honor that both are so interested in me.”As for his club future, Wanner said he was happy to help keep Heidenheim out of relegation, but was reluctant to say much else. ”First of all, I’m just happy that I managed to stay up in the league with Heidenheim. I haven’t thought about anything else yet,” Wanner remarked. Wanner did not exactly light up the U-21 EUROs with Germany as he appeared in two matches, totaling 27 minutes of playing time with no goals or assists. After a lackluster season with Heidenheim, it appears there could be at least a little doubt on whether or not he will reach his vast potential. Bayern Munich center-back Jonathan Tah has seen the rumors linking Bayern Munich to Nick Woltemade and let’s just say that Tah does not sound averse to the move. “I get on well with Nick, I know that he’s a good player. I’d be happy if it [the move to Bayern] goes through. But I don’t have any influence on that. We’re fully focused on the tournament,” Tah said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Tah understands the media game and did not want to say anything out of turn, but not having to deal with Woltemade in the Bundesliga might be a welcomed feeling to Tah. CR Flamengo v FC Bayern München: Round Of 16 - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images Thankfully for Bayern, Coman did not pick up anything serious when he was replaced in the second half. It was a physical, gritty, exhausting, and mentally taxing match in the Miami heat for Bayern Munich in the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 against Flamengo, but the German Rekordmeister were able to stay composed and come away 4-2 winners. They were led by a brace from Harry Kane and will now face Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta in the quarter finals this weekend. The total of 9 yellow cards that were brandished by Michael Oliver throughout the match perfectly illustrates just how brutish Flamengo were making the match with their heavy challenges, though Bayern were not entirely innocent themselves. Several players were forced to walk disciplinary tightropes having been booked, but even Vincent Kompany and Jonathan Tah had both visibly made their frustrations clear with Oliver’s perceived inability to protect the Bayern players on the pitch.Given the nature of the match, it did not come as much of a surprise that Kingsley Coman eventually pulled up midway through the second half with a problem after a brief tussle and had quickly motioned to the bench to be taken off. He was replaced by Leroy Sané in the 58th minute, but it looks like he escaped picking up anything of concern.Per information from Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as per @iMiaSanMia), Coman did not sustain any serious injury, and he is fully expected to resume full team training this week as Bayern preps for their next match against PSG in Atlanta. This will certainly come with a figurative, and perhaps even literal, sigh of relief from Kompany, especially since he is now already down one winger with Sané’s Bayern contract officially ending, marking the start of his new chapter with Galatasaray. Losing Coman as well could prove to be costly. So far at the Club World Cup, Coman has tallied two goals and two assists, having been a key piece in Bayern’s success in attack thus far. There was already an injury scare with Jamal Musiala against Boca Juniors, so Coman not picking up an injury is a stroke of luck Kompany and Bayern will gladly take.

Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace FC - Premier League Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images Bayern Munich is looking at some options for wing... Bayern Munich is still looking for a winger and now Liverpool’s Luis Díaz is on the “shortlist” per Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg: BREAKING | FC Bayern have added Luis #Díaz to their shortlist! Bayern are still looking for a top-class left winger, regardless of Nick Woltemade. They have gathered all the information on 28 y/o Díaz, but there have not yet been any talks with Liverpool. Understand Díaz could leave #LFC if a suitable offer arrives. In addition, Liverpool are also looking for a new winger. Bayern are continuing to assess more and several options, with Díaz now on the list.Woltemade still appears to be Bayern Munich’s number one target, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities that the Bavarians could still find a way to take a serious run at Díaz.Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s big swing at chasing VfB Stuttgart star Nick Woltemade? FC Bayern München v CA Boca Juniors: Group C - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images One more youngster out the door for this upcoming season... It is official — attack midfielder Maurice Krattenmacher is leaving Bayern Munich on loan and is headed to Hertha Berlin. The Bavarians made the announcement on the club website: Maurice Krattenmacher is moving from FC Bayern to Hertha BSC on a season-long loan. The 19-year-old German youth international, who arrived from SpVgg Unterhaching last summer and spent the season on loan at SSV Ulm, will gain further experience at the Bundesliga 2 club.Born in Bad Aibling, Krattenmacher made 33 competitive appearances last season for newly-promoted SSV Ulm in the second tier, and scored three goals (eight assists). He’s made six appearances for the Germany U20 side.Sporting director Christoph Freund thinks this will be a good move for the young attacker. “Maurice is a promising talent - and talents need match practice so they can gain valuable experience. He quickly established himself at Ulm last season and now the plan is for him to continue to develop at Hertha BSC. We’ll support him and continue to keep a close eye on him. Maurice is a player with great potential and the right attitude to have a successful career,” said Freund.
