Hajj pilgrims brave heat to pray at Mount Arafat ahead of Eid Al Adha
Muslim pilgrims prayed atop Mount Arafat on Thursday during the high point of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, as Saudi officials called on participants to refrain from being outside during the hottest hours of the day. Thousands of pilgrims began to gather before dawn around the hill and the surrounding plain where the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have given his last sermon.
While some arrived early to take advantage of the relatively cool morning, carrying colourful umbrellas, many pilgrims will remain for hours of prayers and Koran recitals until the evening in the most arduous portion of the Hajj.

Some UAE families scale back βEid Al Adha celebrations due to school final exams
Eid Al Adha celebrations in some studentsβ homes in the UAE have been scaled back this year as their exams fall right after the four-day holiday to mark the Islamic festival. What was once a season filled with family visits, late-night gatherings, travel plans, and hotel bookings has, for many, been scaled down to brief visits and simple greetings. Final exams in public schools are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 10, immediately after Eid Al Adha, and will run through June 19 for students in Grades 3 to 12.
The Eid break begins on Thursday, June 5 (Arafah Day), and ends on Sunday, June 8. Eid Al Adha falls on Friday, June 6, leaving little time between the celebrations and the start of final exams. The Ministry of Education has confirmed that end-of-year results will be released between June 30 and July 2. This tight timeline has left students and families torn between joy and stress, forcing them to reevaluate how they spend Eid.

No more 1-hour queues: Dubai RTAβs online booking system eases vehicle testing
Starting June 2, vehicle owners in Dubai must book an appointment online for their annual technical inspection, as mandated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The rule applies to all 27 vehicle testing centres across the city, except Tasjeel Hatta. While walk-ins are still allowed, they now come with a Dh100 service fee.
The move follows a successful six-month pilot at Al Qusais and Al Barsha, where waiting times dropped by 46 per cent. According to the RTA, the system will reduce congestion, cut wait times by nearly 40 per cent, and streamline operations at busy centres that previously operated at over 80 per cent capacity.

Sharjah: Shop owners of former Safeer Mall win court case but struggle amid renovations
Two months after Sharjah's once-bustling Safeer Mall announced its closure and takeover by a new management, renovation works are in full swing. However, owners of the nine shops that originally elected not to relocate say they are struggling to stay afloat amid the ongoing refurbishment project.
This comes nearly a month after the tenants won a civil case filed against them by the new management β Western International Group β to vacate the property. On May 1, a court order declared the business owners could continue operating from the building under contracts signed directly with the municipality for the next five years. It further stated they could not be evicted from the premises or have their rents hiked. But that victory seems to now have given way to a new battle.
