Grabbing a quick treat at the Dubai Duty Free before flying out? As millions of travellers pass through the airports, they consume millions of chocolates, in turn generating millions of revenue. In just the first half of 2025, Dh165 million worth of Dubai chocolates were sold, Dubai Duty Free CEO Ramesh Cidambi told Dubai Eye.
As much as 2.5 million bars of these UAE-based chocolates were sold, which accounted for 40 per cent of all confectionery. As these brands are UAE-based, the money goes back into the economy, Cidambi pointed out.

India's scam call centres targeting UAE residents go silent after KT investigation
Scam operations in Noida and Jaipur have been abruptly suspended after a Khaleej Times investigation exposed how Indian call centres were posing as Dubai-based forex firms to defraud UAE residents using spoofed +971 numbers.
An employee from one of the Noida centres said there was panic after the report went viral internally. βIt was circulated everywhere. Managers were asking how the operation leaked,β he said. βWe were all told to go home and not come back until things cool down.β This isn't the first time an exposΓ© has forced such a move. Last month, a call centre in Dubaiβs IMPZ area pushing similar shady platforms shut down its operations overnight after a separate Khaleej Times report. All staff were sent home without notice.

Thousands of UAE residents who bought second passport face uncertainty
Thousands of UAE residents who acquired Citizenship by Investment (CBI) passports from countries like Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Cambodia, and Egypt are staring at a storm they didnβt see coming. Some had invested their life savings, believing these passports would unlock global mobility, tax benefits, and long-term security.
On June 14, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a memorandum giving 36 countries β including several with CBI programmes β a 60-day deadline, ending August 13, 2025, to meet stringent vetting and information-sharing standards or face visa bans. The European Union is also advancing legislation to suspend visa-free Schengen access for nations with weak oversight. If passed, the law could come into force by September.
