18 November, 1962- The day when 110 out of 120 braves of the Charlie Company of 13 Kumaon under the leadership of Major Shaitan Singh (PVC) laid their lives for their motherland.
Despite having no artillery support, no reinforcement, limited ammunition, limited food and no proper pretective clothing in that bone chilling cold of Ladakh (-25°C to -30°C), there bravehearts repotedly killed 1300 Chinese soldiers.
The Indian search party, which visited the battlefield on 10 February 1963, made a startling discovery-the frozen bodies of the men who had died were still holding guns in their hands, having taken bullets on their chests.
When rifles were taken from their hands, it couldn't be. Their fingers were melted and fused to the metal due to intense cold. Fingers had to be cut just to part their weapons from their martyred bodies.

making it one of the most highly decorated companies in the Indian Army.
