A few religions have gone through enlightenment - in Christianity not even a hundred years ago Catholics were killing Protestants on a daily basis in some countries.
Witch burnings although a bit longer ago were also a main theme, etc.

I find it hard to judge Judaism in this regard. I have no idea what percentile of them think eating kids is a good thing, heh.

I think the real issue is what part of the “holy books” is taken as law and what parts are open to interpretation or are considered outdated.

There is also a difference between wanting something and doing it however.
