Egyptian researcher of political Islam, Maher Faraghli, states that the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey is exploiting the "palestinian issue" and the suffering of the gazans in order to raise funds. Hamas itself also accused them of this.

Hamas issued an official statement last year in which it claimed that elements affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey stole about $500 million from donations collected for the benefit of Gaza through an association called Waqf al-Ummah.

The association, which was established by Muslim Brotherhood activists from Jordan and is de facto operated from Istanbul, is led by a series of preachers and clerics and has initiated about 2,000 campaigns to raise funds since 2013, and more so since the start of the recent war.

The initial exposure was led by a young Hamas activist named Khaled Hassan, who reported corruption and the theft of donations. These accusations fit into a series of older allegations and investigations into the misuse of charitable and donor funds by elements within the Muslim Brotherhood movement since its ouster from power in Egypt in 2013.
